Hey y'all! I'm Sojourner White - a remote social worker, award-winning travel journalist, and train travel queen. Hailing from Milwaukee, Wisconsin I have been a digital nomad, called Spain home as a study abroad student turned English teacher with the Fulbright Program, and spent a summer in Germany as an International Social Work graduate student intern. But now, through my platform Sojournies, I help 9-5ers fulfill their career goals and bucket list dreams to bask in freedom and flexibility outside the office.
On my channel, we talk about everything from train travel and Black solo female travel to remote work, hostels, social work, and balancing travel with a 9-5!
So sad that MANY countries abroad are unsafe for black people. In those cases, it's best to travel in groups or avoid altogether. Bravery does not come into question. Safety first. Perhaps you would be willing to plan a group trip for your subscribers?😊
I highly recommend Portland there’s a breakfast spot called cameo cafe maybe 12 mins from the airport the food and service was amazing and the portions are HUGE they have pancakes the size of a car tire lol and also they have many hot springs to visit and relax in i enjoyed my visit there I can’t recommend it enough
My family and I have travelled by train across the U.S. to Portland Oregon and Wyoming. I had the sleeper car accommodations and it was an awesome experience. We hung out as a family, slowed down and saw the beautiful plains of the U.S. How you get there is part of the journey, not just the destination.
Train travel is actually not that expensive. Not like air travel. If you have the time…it’s actually pleasant. Amtrak tip…If you can’t afford to book a private room, try to book a seat in the Senior/handicap car. Only 8 or 10 seats. A ton of room! You’ll just be chillin with the Senior Saints!😂
I have stories from my parents driving on vacations and getting into harrowing situations in new places where things are different. Dad driving the wrong way on the road in Scotland. Dad almost driving off the edge of a cliffside highway in Hawaii. Dad almost... maybe its a my-dad problem 😂
No TSA either. Yes, I absolutely LOVE the speed of travel by air, but I dislike all of the extras. I don’t want to put on a burlesque show, slide my shoes off, and step onto a platform that a million others have. Train is so peaceful… especially when you’re in upgraded seating.
Being able to walk during travel is a life saver. Airplanes are too small to actually stretch legs without being in someone else's way. And a car you have to stop traveling to walk around
I have taken the train from where I live north of LA to San Diego to visit my parents a couple of times and there’s always some dude that sits next to me and tries to get me drunk. Like sir, it’s 8:30am!
I love to drive cross country... But it is so tiring and wears me out. When I took the california zephyr, it was a whole new experience and I loved it. I know all trains are not like the zephyr, but I took another one from baltimore to new york and it was really relaxing. I think they're worth the more money although I wish they would lower the prices of the roomettes and bedrooms
I think some of those people who tell you that you can go by other forms of transportation could be envious. It's nice to be pampered. Yes it does cost more money but you're worth it. I didn't find that out until late in life so I'm enjoying life now, take care stay safe and enjoy your life.❤
Once you mentioned a twerk class is all I needed to know about your character. You could have at least said Gettysburg or something. Nope you said a twerk class which is 🗑 and for the streets. Smh. Women need to do better.
James Baldwin, an American Black author who moved to Paris was called an expatriate. Tina Turner who lived in the south of France and Switzerland gave up her American citizenship and is also termed an expatriate. Usually the people in the country you are leaving term you an "expatriate" and the people in the country you move to term you an immigrant or newcomer. But I think it is chiefly how financially well off you are that even gets people to take notice and term you anything at all.
Vancouver WA was founded in 1823 so that scammer can sell cheap train ticket to clueless people who wanted to got to Vancouver BC. Just kidding. Got you.
LOL Such a hilarious video! One of the best, and I have been searching all kinds of Kenya vlogs anticipating my first visit!! Lions: "One thing I'm not going to do is bother them" loll So wonderful, adding some of these stops to our bucket list. Thank you!
Wonderful experience, I was smiling the entire time & felt like I was there with you. Bridge experience had me gasping for air. Patrick, laurent, & James were fabulous. The women are so talented & beautiful. Nothing like The Motherland. Hope to go one day. Love your channel by the way.
