Its kinda crazy that we are doing the same swap (1jz vvti into a 88 NA mk3), at the same time of year, and trying to get done before a supra meet. Your videos have helped me a lot. Hopefully i can show you my finished, working build one day.
Did you have any clearance issues with the turbo housing hitting the frame in the bay? I just dropped my 1j vvti in my 88 and i did so with the exhaust and intake removed for ease of manipulation (i did it alone), and now im havin issues getting the manifold/turbo on.
I did not have any issues with fitment. I had to take off and put back on the exhaust manifold and turbo a few times too. part of the turbo and hard line is close to the side but not touching.
It was pretty easy, they talked to me on the phone to make sure what I was ordering, sent me pics, and got me an invoice. Shipping was $400. This was back in 2020 though.
Yes, in the description were all the clips and supporting parts. But the Bumper and lights were all from ebay. I need to add them to the description, but they were pretty generic. Here's what they're called on my purchase history. "Front Bumper + Reinforcement + Brackets + Signal Light For 1998-2000 Tacoma 4wd"; "JDM Black Headlight Pair w/ Bulb For Toyota Tacoma 1997-2000 2WD, 1998-2000 4WD"; "DEPO JDM Red/Clear Tail Lights For 1995-2000 Toyota Tacoma Pickup Truck 2WD/4WD"; "New Depo Passenger Side Corner Signal Light For 97-00 Toyota Tacoma TO2521154"; "New Depo Driver Side Corner Signal Light For 1997-2000 Toyota Tacoma TO2520154"
Also the Grille I think was from some random website online or maybe etsy, but here's the description: "Kintop 1st Gen TRD Pro Grill Fits for 1997 1998 1999 2000 Toyota Tacoma all models W/ Letters, Black × 1 $139.99". You can probably find something similar on Amazon or ebay.
@@richardrojas5578 These might not cool enough, I have to drive it more to find out. They are 2 12" SPAL fan part#30101522 with 1226cfm each. My previous 16" fan was Flex-a-lite #238 3000cfm.
Yeah I paid someone else to do my fuel filter. Wasn't that much but he said it was HELL and I see why now. I get pretty vaporlock after about 30+ miles of heatsoak and I've heard of someone doing a 12V mod to the fuel pump plus other stuff. Not sure if I'm ready to mess with all that, but a new fuel pump sure would be nice. You are going ALL out man.
you really need a fan shroud helps a lot ! i have mishimoto fan shroud with two spal 12 inch low pro fans and heat is not a issue. those spal fans look suspect packaging y's real spal fans sound like a jet engine taking off at 13.5 to 14 volts. keep up the videos
@@TheHighroller88 Thanks I wanted the mishimoto shroud, but with thinner fans, and I think they only sell the package. Maybe I'll find one used or make one with aluminum sheet.
Late comment but what wiring diagram did you use? Used this vid to do my 88' Supra swap and want Air Conditioning. I found the A/C compressor clutch in the body harness and spliced it into the A/C compressor I got. But I'm almost positive there's also a connection to the ECU from the A/C Amplifier (I assume to up the idle for the extra drag). Thanks for the help if you can!
Thank you for the great video, it’s really helpful, I have a Supra mk3, and I replaced the cylinder clutch with toyota cressida😁 it’s working perfectly 👌
That was a pretty cool drive. Exhaust looks good, sounds good, and no longer drags too low. Overall, this build was excellent. I hope the algorithm helps in your favor because you definitely deserve more views and subscribers. Thanks for sharing, congratulations on all of your life events/milestones, and looking forward to the next video!
Killer exhaust. I didn't see anything like that when I was looking, there were only a few options. Went for the CX racing (drift motion sells it as their own) 3" to 4" opening giant cannon in June. Doesn't have any real rasp to it, but it's pretty damn loud and bassy. It's almost a problem from 1.5-2K with how loud it is in cabin. It came with a silencer tip like yours, but haven't tried it yet.
here's my wiring list, 1drv.ms/x/c/35f7ed32c5d619c7/QccZ1sUy7fcggDWAAAAAAAAA5EjylKlJNTkEqQ and here's my parts list 1drv.ms/x/c/35f7ed32c5d619c7/QccZ1sUy7fcggDWGAAAAAAAApH61SfB7d40qiA , and here's tthe ma70 (1987) wiring wilbo666.pbworks.com/w/file/fetch/111239044/MA70%20Electrical%20Wiring%20Diagram%20Book%20EWD022U%20(USA-1987).pdf here's one of the references for wiring I used for jzx100 - www.supraforums.com/threads/1jzgte-vvti-jzx100-harness-diagram.635253/ there are more jzx100 wiring diagrams out there in japanese.
Does this also go hand in hand with the NON-VVTI variant? I'm swapping shortly and have been looking for a solid video like this to get a visual on what I need to do. Thanks!
You use the Toyota FIPG (form in place gasket). I got it from the parts department at the Toyota dealer near me. Or you can order some online at Nightrungarage or Driftmotion.
Hey man I got a harness from tweakd. They gave me an alternator pig tail. Is the alternator wire a black round 3 pin? Looks like 3 spade connectors? Down near fuse box near battery??
Yes the alternator is a 3-pin connector. On the 7M-GE Supra, the alternator is near the fuse box. On the 1JZ, the alternator is on the opposite side. On Supra, it's White (S-Sense Charge), Yellow/Green (L - Battery warning lamp), and Black/Yellow (IG 12V). On the JZX100 Supra, it's White/Blue (S), Yellow/Green (L), and Red/Blue (IG)
I was wondering why this radio was SO DAMN HEAVY when I took it out. I can see why now. I admire your dedication in keeping it alive!! It looks super rad when it's in action. Are you going to re-use the OEM speaker boxes? I didn't go nearly as far as you and just fitted the TINY OEM size aftermarket Hertz speakers to mine.
For the rear? I used 4" Alpine S-S40 speakers in the stock location, so yeah they are tiny lol. The AutoExtrude front speaker pods should allow for using 6.5" speakers. I don't know if this will do much with the stock radio, but I'll give it a shot, and if anything, 6.5" will be better than stock if I decide to get an aftermarket radio in the future.
@@NARFALICIOUS I mostly meant the front, but yeah I just wanted them to fit them in the TINY holes under the "live sound" speaker covers. It cost way too much, but at least It's done. I really hope your OG deck works out ok.
Great point, no I just looked at them. One set is just an "electrical screwdriver" set and the other has several size bits. I'll have to look into getting a JIS Screwdriver set.
Replacing the capacitors in that head unit will help bring back that premium 80s sound, you would be suprised what a new set of modern, non leaking and degraded caps will do. same with the ECU, better milage and hp
I would not recommend doing a tint yourself. That's one thing you pay the pros to do right because the cost savings mean nothing if it doesn't last. Plus tinting the hatch glass is going to be a major pain. I need to get it done myself because my poor MK3 needs that UV protection and for some reason she gets a LOT hotter sitting in the sun than my Celica. I know you don't part outside, but Heatshields makes a custom windshield shade (and the other windows) and it works perfectly. I've lived W/O A/C in her for a while after I bought it due to it never being converter, but it was worth it. The price you paid for the Flex Z's is over $300 less than the ones for my Celica, and much less than the $1440 for my FA 500's on the Supra. Great production quality as always! You got very good parts in her!
3:52 That was me! I found a Gentex 536 mirror at a local LKQ junkyard recently out of a 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe 3.8; only cost me $20! Has digital compass, auto dimming mirrors and three Homelink buttons. I think I had to use a "torx" screwdriver (T-20 I think, but I'm not certain) to unscrew it from the mounting tab that was glued to the windshield. If you want to skip the hassle of junkyard, eBay usually has plenty for sale ranging from $30-$50, depending on the seller. I made sure I cut the pigtail connector that plugs into the mirror because I need that in order to wire it. I do have to source the mounting tab and glue it to the windshield so I can mount the mirror (I couldn't figure out how to remove the mounting tab from the junkyard car because it's really, really glued on there...or maybe I'm just clueless too 😅). Tein coilovers sounds fantastic and also reasonably priced. I remember I looked at some Cusco while talking to the sales rep at the Cusco at a car show a few years back and the price almost made me want to cry ($2,500). I understand Cusco makes excellent suspension components, but my driving skills doesn't warrant or justify spending that much on suspension 😅 Depending on your budget, Driftmotion may have an exhaust system to fit your requirements. They started out as MK3 Supras specialists/vender before branching out to support a more diverse set of cars, so hopefully they have something for you. I'm not a tint guy, but I heard something called ceramic tint that is supposed to help your car interior temps by blocking UV rays as well. Not sure how expensive it is, but it may fit your need to cool interior of your car (and protect the car interior like the dash and seats). Sorry for the long post; looking forward for the improvements build for this car! Thanks for sharing and, yes... cassette decks are cool again!!
Hey sup i need some help i have a automatic harness in my mk3 1jz non vvti swap I’m trying to find the wires in the auto tranny plug to male the reverse light work
13:00 I thought that tricycle carriage was making burnout noise😅 I'm glad the Mustang didn't spin out though. 17:50 oofs, the low coolant (aka the 'birdcage'). Is your overflow tank low on coolant or it's just the sensor acting up? 17:29 thanks for showing the B&H Photos store. I ordered a few items from them online over the years; I always wondered what the physical store would be like to shop at. You took some really nice photos, of the Supra in New York and of the various locations in general. This look like a fun and fulfilling road trip. I never been to New York. Looks like there's a lot of beautiful and enjoyable locations. I just realized your car has the factory ABS and TEMS; very cool! The water in the spare tire wheel well, my best guess would be if it's not from the rear taillights seals, it might be the bottom rear glass molding need some RTV added underneath around where the molding bolts onto the rear window hatch. Sorry about the long post. I hope the algorithm works in your favor and you continue to gain more, more views and subscribers. The content is definitely there. Thank you so much for posting and sharing this road trip with us viewers! Have a great weekend!!
Thanks for everything! I checked the reservoir before the trip and during. I think it's because the bottom of it is touching my intercooler and moving around. I'm hoping to look at some of the seals this week to find out where it's leaking and possibly just replacing them anyways because they've never been replaced!
