Umpire Nestor Chylak's name was pronounced "Shy-lak." The Cleveland manager's name was pronounced "ass-pro-monty." He said, "When Chylak was hit [with the chair], I knew we'd lost the game." Aspromonte wasn't promptly fired; he was fired after the season. The Indians finished fourth in the AL East that year with a record of 77-85. Frank Robinson was with the California Angels at the time of the riot, and was acquired by Cleveland on September 12. Streaking (4:48) was a big fad in 1974. That's Jeff Burroughs at 10:04; he led the AL with 118 runs batted in in 1974, and was named the league's Most Valuable Player. That's the same Lenny Randle who punched out manager Frank Lucchesi during spring training in 1977, resulting in a broken cheekbone for Lucchesi and a suspension and fine for Randle. Boy, baseball was great back in those days!
Thank you for this!! I apologize for any misinformation, I was basing my research on the ESPN articles and a few others! This is very interesting to know!
I’m 75, back then 25. This was one of those nights that will live forever. It was considered a sign of the apocalypse. Hippies, long haired commies, what’s this country coming to, etc. LMAO!

If true, I'm genuinely surprised that Shohei wasn't lying after all. It was really shady that he didn't notice a couple million gone in betting but.. I remembered how little he looks at his own finances considering he only spends an average of $3k a month 😅
Nah it depends on what you define an athlete as. Is he the most athletic person in the world? No. But there certainly is a good argument for him being the most dominant professional athlete in his given sport. To me in the modern era it is a toss up between him and prime Tiger Woods for this definition.
