My name is Andy Chrisman. I'm one of the guys from 4HIM, and I lead worship. Oh, and I also have a radio show called "Worship with Andy Chrisman" which is heard on 500+ stations world-wide every week. And don't miss my podcast "1 Degree of Andy!"
Came across this video accidentally and so enjoyed the banter and conversation! My ears perked up when, I think, Marty mentioned the group Bridge. Well, I was the road director and first tenor for Bridge from late ‘80 to ‘82! I always wanted to sing in Truth but was turned down until Mr. Breland showed up at a concert in Mobile in late ‘82. He invited my late wife and I to join the group. We ended up not going. Kirk, we met at a Truth concert in ‘82 and I think you told me that you auditioned for Bridge at some point. Anyway, wonderful memories! Hope you are all thriving… Steve Yoell
My dad introduced my brothers and I to the music of Mr. Taff. The medals album still brings back special memories with the Lord and my dad. God bless you brother!!!
Twila Paris is one of my favorite gospel and worship singers, ever. Twila's able to cover the whole gamut of gentle and peaceful songs of praise, such as "What am I without You?" (my personal favorite song of praise for quiet meditation); the middle of the road, contemporary Christian classics of worship (e.g. "Runner"); right through to the powerful, instant hits and anthems of Worship such as "God is in Control" that lift your countenance, no matter how low you might be feeling, at any given moment/season in your life. I love you Twila Paris, and thank The LORD GOD Almighty for your wonderful gift of transferring His Spirit and inspiration into song form. Thank you, Andy for this great interview and biopic into Twila's GOD blessed and powered career in Gospel and Worship music. Subbed accordingly :D
Great interview! Jim Murray is arguably the greatest male quartet tenor of all time. He was a classic, mid-range tenor...meaning that he still sounded like a man on the high notes. He had an innate ability to blend, sadly missing with many modern singers. He could step out and sing the melody with that immediately recognizable voice, but seconds later disappear inside of chords being sung when someone else to over a melody line.
Stumbled across this podcast today. What a treat! I've been a big Imperials fan for many years. "Priority" was such a great album. I had the privilege of hosting Jim Murray twice at churches I served as Music Pastor. He was always such a gentleman , and even sang with me on one occasion. I'll never forget that. Also loved 4Him during those years. I always thought there needed to be a 5thHim. Me!!! Great interview. Could have listened another hour.
I saw these guys in concert in 1991, a year or so after they just started. We weren't in a huge place (not a church) and the acoustics weren't great. But it was still a great concert.
Thanks Andy! I grew up as an Imperials junkie, and watching your interviews with Russ, Ron and now Jim, as well as all of my other favorites from my teens and early 20s, has been such a thrill. Your podcast is my favorite rabbit hole of stories from everyone I grew up listening to. They just don’t make Christian music like they use to. Keep up the good work, eager to see who’s next.
So my favorite years for all of this were the ones when I was a Christian music deejay in DC and my favorite Twila song was the one about letting no man steal your crown, awesome then and still. And after those years ended, it was radio and that's how it goes, I kept my hand in it by being a volunteer concert runner for nearly a decade and for sure, tho' I said little because my job was to get the artists safely to the venue, I was honored to drive Twila from a hotel to the Weinberg Center in Frederick, Maryland. And I have Twila vinyl, O yeah, from back in the day. And just yesterday I added to my collection with a thrift-store find, Marian Anderson Sings Eleven Great Spirituals on RCA Victor, a minty mono long-play 10" record. 😀
So glad to hear, Andy and Steve, that you're now gathering bits and pieces of your memorabilia, all the posters and promotions and what not and it all counted for something special, your big laps around the nation and all the concerts and radio stations and all the interactions with your fans and fellow believers. And I was one of them, Steve, big fan since your first album sent to me by Sparrow when I had a morning show in the DC market upon its release and you sounded good in my mix of Contemporary Christian and Contemporary Gospel artists. 😀
Don’t know where you are at vocally but you’re not done! We need the Jedi version of 4 Him! It’s time guys! You don’t need to tour. Just give us more music!
Steve taught the Bible weekly on Wednesdays at Bellevue in Cordova, TN. It confirmed and affirmed Godly truth in me and for me. I encourage everyone to become involved in Groundworks Ministries. God is using it to change people for His glory! Thank you, Steve! And thank you, Andy!
“The protection of the Lord is on the servant of the Lord for the duration of the call of the Lord.” - Steve Wiggins I needed that and I’m not from Arkansas 😅
Jaci’s first tour was my first concert, I was probably about 7 years old and I remember going to the first pew of the church and sitting there as she sang to back up tapes, and just thinking that was the coolest experience but then over the following 20+ years I was front row for what feels like 100 additional shows in her career, and being there release day for every record and always being able to catch up with her during meet and greets it was great to see an in depth talk about her career - Thanks for this great interview! I love getting to see Jaci talk about everything that I grew up right along with! Definitely miss not being able to go to her shows like i used to🫶
Thank you for putting this out there! It was so cool to listen to you guys reminisce. I knew Kirk back in the day and was doing a few things with him in the mid 80’s. I auditioned for Truth but never got that call. Then I ran into Kirk again in Boise Idaho just as the four of you were forming 4Him. It’s been so cool to see that success! Congratulations to you all!
