This guy puts the serpentine belt on incorrectly. He has the belt grooves against the smooth idler pully on the right side. He didn't follow the diagram he digs up. Actually there is a diagram in the owners manual. It shows the mistake He made.
Yeah, the gremlins start showing up when you think an issue is simple. It happens, but it's good to have seen it checked from top to bottom! Great job!
Awesome video, thank you! As a fellow Floridian and first-time old Mustang owner: I am having the same issue. If you've driven around this blistering hot summer, how have you found the spacer to have worked so far?
thank you .Trying to pull and save a speed-o and clock from a 1968 Cutlass S ragtop that what is left will get scrapped soon. I hope to find them a new home for them .
Just completed this job. Taking out the bolt on the top right of the alternator makes for a slightly easier removal, however, it is still a major pain to remove with A/C lines in the way. After enough maneuvering, it will come free
Man I just went through the same process with my 2012 had my buddy run his scanner and cylinder 2 and 4 were misfiring changed spark plugs and coils among other things that needed replacing and now she idles fine. Thanks for the video. Not to many people explain things to people who no nothing about mechanical stuff 😅
What else did you replace? I have a misfire on 2 & 4 too. Ive replaced the spark plugs the oxygen sensors and the cat it’s not the coils anything specific you replaced that fixed it?
@@itdoesntmeanathing I’m basically experiencing the same thing I’ve replaced the o2 sensors, catalytic converter, fuel injectors and new coil packs and new spark plugs so the only thing i know haven’t replaced the gastric high pressure fuel pump , and I probably need to clean the intake ports so if y’all have any advice im open to hearing them thanks 🙏
That groove in the rotor was from the factory it was a wear indicator. If that groove was to disappear or get very shallow you would know it was time to replace the rotor.
Seems that you put the belt going different side of the pulley instantly after the alternator main pulley/freewheel? (compare on time stamps 4:38 8:59 )
You have a good eye my friend. I did not put that belt on according to the diagram I showed. The belt is now rolling the different side of the alternator's fixed pulley. She just drove it on 1500 mile trip with no issues. But I will give her a heads up if there is any squealing that could be the cause.
Dan do you have a video on how to replace the side panels to get to the cylinders? Also how can u tell if the pump is ok. I’d rather not replace that if I don’t have to
Sorry I don't have any video but you should be able to see all the screws and remove the window handle and then panel comes off. If the pump turns on and spins most likely it can be saved.
Greast Video. I have owned my 72 Supreme Convertible for 30 years and having the same issue. I tried stacking 2 of the composite gaskets together as I had an extra with a rebuilt carb I got with the car. Helped some but did not correct it. I will order this gasket and try it. I see your dashpot is missing the plunger. My original fell apart last year when I rebuilt the my original carb. Can"t seem to find the correct replacement.
Here is the dash pot you need www.ebay.com/p/179055168 . However it wont be useful if you put on the thick spacer like I did. The carb will not align with it anymore.
Seems to be the season to be doing this on the early Velosters. About to do this myself, although I'm doing it in the opposite order you did kinda. LOL. Coils first, then plugs and I'm about to replace the injectors. It was a good video. Thanks for posting it.
Nice ride! Good job nothings ever a bolt on! I'm having a similar issue. I'm wondering what your thoughts are now. Did the spacer help? Did you have to readjust idle mixture? Thank you.
Yes the spacer took care of the carburetor issue when starting a hot car that has been sitting over 10 minutes. I don't remember having to readjust the carburetor after, but I may have, I just don't remember now.
I have an 81 vette. My drivers mirror is just like this. I looked up the mirror in the assembly manual and it does not show those two interior screws. Unfortunately I need to take my door panel off as well as loosening the glass etc…..big project. Do you think that an 81 vette would have those two interior screws? Thank you
I looked around on eBay, I enlarged one of the pictures and it looked to me there is a screw and maybe a hex head nut in their so it definitely looks like you can tighten it up with one or both of those options.
That is true you remove two bolts, one on the top and one on the bottom. Remove one nut on the top then pull the alternator off the stud and through the AC lines. Sorry the video didn't record the actual removal of the alternator :(
Thanks for this video sir, much appreciated! I had a rough idea of what parts i needed but your video is the only definitive source for the p/ns of the bearings and seals! Saved me a lot of time and buying and returning parts that " may work" . I'm rebuilding an 8.5'' BOP for my 1970 Buick Skylark to replace the impossible to find parts for Buick one year only axle!
