What lens did you use in the samples that you are showing here ? Nice rendering. Btw S9 is the first hybrid camera that really makes me shoot video and I am 90% photo guy. I just can't find any LUT for photos, the ones that I create are also bad because all those photo based luts operate on jpgs so it's pretty limiting and they create mess in images. I guess nothing beats Fuji for SOOC photo.
@@MrRafalEn yeah the LUT creator is something of a learning curve! What I do is take a base photo no LUT tweak to a 709 then take that 709 and tweak again to create a Look. But yes I understand , you get some messed up looks when you start out. I used the Helios 44-4M for the sample images. Thank you for watching! 💛
😅 wow , got a good eye for detail man ! Yeah I’ve had that for years got it from Amazon Its discontinued now.. in the UK try if it is still available where you are .. amzn.eu/d/5oGufUR
Completely understand this thought process. I have both the S5 IIX & S9. The workflow for work on the S5 IIX and the workflow for EDC with the S9 for EDC is like extensions of my hands… no changing now… I get sh… done ✅
@@GrainOnTheGo it’s small !! 😋 the almost ultimate dad cam , have it on me all day ! I haven’t taken a single photo or video on my iPhone since getting it it’s now been almost 2 months, I had a preproduction model to test curtesy of my buddy.
I think I know where you’re coming from. I’m gladly trading these for the form factor and my use is generally spontaneous, catching something in the moment.(light,action.. etc..) I very rarely go out with the thought I’m gonna go and take photos/videos. The camera is replacing my iPhone, this is a carry all day everywhere type device . I carry it stripped down and paired it with a tiny 35mm 7artisants f1.4 II full frame. The combo is 👨🍳’s kiss!! Fits in my bum bag !!
Aye man, nice videos + photos !!! Really love the one at 2:20 (the upside down in the water) ! Welcome to the Lumix / S9 fam...I been following everyone that has one also lol. Nice work !
WOW !!! , that was a jump in quality of your content !!!! more like this !!!! Please ! you deserve 10's of thousands mate , excited to see what's next on your channel !
I got a gx9 last year thinking it'd be a good companion to my g9ii. i think it's the tech advancement, but being new to cameras I never liked the gx9. replaced with the s9 and it's incredible. the edc i had hoped the gx9 would be, but more.
@@magnetoclash I use adapters and have a few vintage lenses paired with it , I have the Helios 58 and a vivatar28 and currently on a hunt for a мир 1Б 37mm these paired with this camera is 👨🍳kiss
Curious to see how this works out…the s9 isn’t pocketable with a lens, and it suffers from every issue you raised with the S5iix (and adds a few more),I get your reasoning, but disagree, but if you already have 2 other cameras, it does make more sense.
I think if you could get only one camera, the S5iix would be it. But since you already have two reliable Blackmagic cameras, the S9 would be a better fit as a small, almost pocketable travel cam. It just needs a few tiny lenses.
The S5IIx is amazing and i think you must have thought about this alot , i do get the small cam factor , it wins almost every time when your just not doing a job. On a job a pro camera is a must ! I do understand you and i think you ve done the right thing
Yeah, that's why I got my S9 over the S5IIX....i need a camera that works around me, not the other way around. I also come from the Black Magic camera too, I have the OG 2.5k, the Production 4k and had the 6K for a while. The S9 does makes some concessions BUT I would argue that what they ended up building is just an all around beast and the workflow just elevates it. Mine comes with me in my bag all the time! I do wish the lens selection was wider for my liking.
@@lightleaked Yep! The lens to body size ratio is the biggest problem so far. I still can't believe Canon has paper thin Pancake lenses with AF at f/2.8 and the best Panasonic could make was an F/8 manual lens.
I have owned both of these camera and agree with you in regards to the value proposition of the LUMIX. That said the Canon C70 is the superior video tool. I do wish it had a proper magnesium alloy body, and a more robust build. Honestly, If you are at this price point the Sony FX6 is a better options. Full frame, eVNDs… it’s a versatile shooter. I’m currently shooting with Reds… Have also the excellent A9III. You only appreciate that camera once you have shot with it.
@@angryrabbitproductions1690 I couldn’t agree more , there was something about the c70 that made you want to take it in your hand and shoot with! On top of that , the updates provided internal raw shooting which is amazing for my type of shooting as it gives me creative flexibility in post . I think any camera can be used in a professional manner , it just depends on the amount of devices you attach to the camera to make it so. I would love to try out a FX6 to see how that would go .. but I’m quite spoiled with the black magic systems now so something really amazing would need to come about to change my mind! Thanx for spending time with me and commenting
thanx , those are some great examples love the feet in the sand, i would love for you to go through your workflow and how you graded the blackmagic footage, thnx for the 10% off code - for anyone else BOLL was the code
You didn’t set these cameras up correctly. I have the Pocket 4k, Cinema 6k and Panasonic S1 and they are much closer than you examples. Some of your frames look horrible and non of them should.
Great video, and thank you for sharing this batch of lenses. I'm thinking about getting a pocket 4k and getting either the Canon 24-105 F4 L or the Canon 70-200 F4 L. The first and main reason I'd be getting it is for a conference. Which of the 2 would you start with if you had to film from a 20m distance zoomed in to half the body of the presenter?
They both look like shit in your hands, you sick at grading, and your review is misleading. These cameras can get amazing colours and image quality, you you managed to fuck it up.
The C70 is a great 4k camera, but id love to see a 6k or 8k version to rivel the 8k raw internal recording of the Nikon Z9. And as hybrid camera the best value is unquestionably the Panasonic s5iix with its class leading ibis, 6k and prores HQ to ssd.
Great video! This last days searching for this camera because it is time to think about my next camera and every lead of investigating mirrorless camera world and my needs goes to lumix and choice to S5II/S5IIX 😊 only autofocus feature, a lot of videos are about this, but I think for my needs- that probabbly wont be a problem🙏
They look very similar to me. Both look beautiful. I've been thinking of upgrading my S5 to an s1h, because of the optical low pass filter. I've had a few issues with moire. I shoot mainly with vintage lenses and anamorphic lenses, so I don't really care about autofocus. Anyway, this is the first video about the S5iix that actually was interesting to me. ;) great job. Thanks for sharing.
Just out of curiousity, what lenses made the camera look “camcorder” like. And what lenses did you use that changed your mind. Asking because I’m getting the C70 soon and I seriously don’t want that camcorder feel haha. Except for certain projects, I want my image to look as filmic as possible. and if you recommend any specific lenses that would be great 🙌🏻🙌🏻 thank you!
Hi mate, the 24-70mm f2,8 RF was more work to get a the filmic look, straight conversion to a 709 just looked camcorder like especially with no lights or prep to the frame it seemed more 2009 docu series. Obviously this will change as you prep the frame with lights and a well chosen cam angle , but the whole point to me mentioning it was because some lenses you put on and your instatly getting that filmic look ( anamorphic are a good example ) I am just finishing a video best lenses to get for the BMPCC4K - i use it with a metabones adapter and all the lenses where EF mount so possibly might be of interest to you , i only used the C70 with the EF to RF adapter so all the lenses i used where EF. As for the lenses i used which changed my mind are the Tokina 11-16 f2.8DXII, sigma 18-35 and my fav the Tokina 50-135 f2,8 ( great lens for video , lots of character ) if you have the time check out the video next week i will have lots of samples with these lenses.
Hey man, thank you so much for the reply 🙌🏻🙌🏻. That was very informative. Will take note. Also, have you tried cine lenses? I know it’s tougher to manual focus but they look sooo filmic. I have a meike 25mm T2.1 and it looks amazing. Anyway, thanks again!
This last year I moved from the original micro cinema to the s5. The raw footage clips you’ve posted here could almost have been from a comparison of those two cameras! When I saw the A-B it was so obvious!! They are very different, but for me, I feel the s5 is way more versatile but also more work in post/colour grading to get the image where I want it. Even the menu system on the micro cinema camera was easier to navigate than the S5…
from the beginning, camera a is visibly softer, but when in one of the hand-held shots camera a was shaking and camera b was not, the suspicions became 100% certain 😂😂😂 your content is very very nice, good and helpful 👌🤌💪💪💪
😅 love the honesty mate, yeah the samples are terrible and garbage and are pure 709 conversion for lumix and " video(same as 709) " on BMD 4k, straight out of camera , so no color grading , i think it would defeat the purpose. This is pure braw 4K DCI against 6K Prores 422 HQ.
Pocket 4k with speed booster absolutely destroys the s5iix. I have both, just bought the 4k a month ago for a fashion campaign b cam to my 6k pro. Got it with the intention of running vintage lenses. Had no idea the 12 bit 4k raw would be so amazing. Just bought the pd movie lidar for it. I honestly can’t believe how good it is
I own the Lumix S5iix and had no interest in BM cameras until the 6kFF came out. I purchased it because it was L-mount and I can share my lenses, I already had v-mount batteries because the battery life on the 6kff is really bad, and finally because it has a 1.6 anamorphic de-squeeze factor which perfectly matches my set of Sirui anamorphic cine lens set. I shoot in open gate and it's a fantastic image. I also already had a bunch of CFExpress cards but I mostly capture to SSD. I wish it had a dedicated TC port but for the price it's pretty good. One annoying thing is that it can't keep time. I always have a battery on it and always charged but if I don't turn it on every couple of days then it can be off by days or months. I researched and found this is a common problem with BM cameras but how hard is it to put a crystal system in there to keep the time.
@@RodericAlonzo Well it all depends. I decided to sell mine. I was going to keep it to only do Anamorphic but that's a pretty expensive niche. I didn't really like the plastic build quality, the fact that it can't hold the time, no timecode, bad battery life. Decided to pray on the new S1H mark II.
@@rickseigh460 Thanks for that. I can appreciate anamorphics but for me it was more about braw and the OLPF. I know you can get braw with the panasonic but the cost of blackmagic video assist is too high for me. (For an external recorder)
@@RodericAlonzo It's very usable and I hope that they provide firmware updates as the noise level above 800 ISO is pretty bad. It's supposed to have dual ISO but the higher ISO didn't look good. I'm using the BM 5" video assist on the Lumix S5iix so doing Blackmagic raw to the new Samsung T9. Had dropped frames today at Q0 so not happy with that. I'll lower the data rate and test a little more.
