Watch as Rose and Col Nation explore our beautiful Australia in our 4WD, caravan or whatever else we travel in, or on.
We both love getting out in nature so our videos will suit those who love to explore Australia and the great outdoors. Content will be varied as we go and search inspiration for paintings and artworks.
We are keen off-road explorers and don't mind getting a bit dusty and muddy as we venture into the coasts, Mountains and outback Australia.
Sometimes Rose's brother Ray will join Col and do some more adventurous trips and you are invited to follow along as they explore Australia and enjoy the outdoors.
Puppy', our grandson's favourite stuffed toy, 'hid' in our luggage. he has remained in our car and loves to join us on our many adventures as we travel around this spectacular country.
So if you love to see adventure travels in Cape York, K'gari (Fraser Island) or the Simpson Desert and many other places, remember to like and Subscribe to follow our adventures.
Sorry gotta say the reason the tracks wash out is from erosion from the 4x4s. Time and time again I see shows people talking up the wonderful wilderness yes destroy it on the way in and out.
Thank you for that. We do stick to existing tracks formed by old forestry roads or the QPWS, but as you point out, many do not. Our local 4WD club has a strong relationship with the QPWS and HQ Plantations who manage the National Parks and state forests respectively in Queensland. The tracks are installed and maintained for forestry management and are used for fire fighting and logging and the like. Clubs are even given special access to drive tracks and report on conditions so they can better direct their maintenance for access safely by their own staff in 4wd vehicles. I certainly agree that irresponsible off road driving can cause environmental issues and we do call this out in some of our videos. People leaving camp fires unattended that can start fires, toilet paper (and worse) left in pristine areas as well as plastic waste left by campers (not all in 4wds) are my pet hates. We even go to the trouble of taking a Porta Potti and rubbish bags in our car so we don't need to leave a mess and will often clean up after others. We actually pick up other's poo in one of our K'gari videos. Thank you again for your comment. It reminds me to make sure in future videos that we continue to call out poor behaviour. cheers Col
@@user-qt1yj3vu7p that was MV Natone section of Inskip Point. This area has made it in the news recently with a few near shore land slips. The press call them Sink Holes but it is just sand being washed away by fast flowing tides between Inskip and Hook Point on K’gari (Fraser Island). This is nothing really to worry about unless you are camped or parked too close of course. There was a couple of caravans lost a few years ago. We were in that spot just a week before that. This has been happening since the last ice age but the media like to sell papers. 😁
@Explornations hi guys thanks for your reply. Yeah heading to inskip for Christmas just sussing out best camping grounds for best sun for solar. Thanks again Greg
@@user-qt1yj3vu7p it’s busy then. Our favourite is MV Natone then MV Beagle. MV Sarawak is better for caravans but that is where the latest slip happened. MV Dorigo is a bit more exposed to the wind but also has places you can get a caravan in. Natone and Beagle have pretty soft Sandy tracks through the park which can make taking a caravan more difficult but camper trailers are good in any of them. Have a great trip.
@@Explornations Oh, figgy jam. I thought you had said piggy jam. I love figs. Bacon, too, but fig jam wins. I hope y’all find comfort wherever life finds you, whether in the road or back at home. And may we all have endless supplies of figgy jam.
Hello Col thankyou for your videos, could you explain or do a video on what exercise you were doing before surgery ,I'm doing some but I'm not sure if there enough, I go in for mine September
I’ll see what I can do. I went to a physiotherapist and she had me doing a few and it really helped. I was going to record my gym session this Saturday so I might be able to do the Pre-op ones as well.
No my surgeon says not to. He doesn’t want me doing lunges or using a leg press either. There are a few things I’ll have to adapt to. I am going to a gym now after the rehab centre and under the guidance of an exercise physiologist to try to get back surfing somehow.
As my surgeon reminds me, you are not getting a 20 year olds knee. You are getting two chunks o metal separated by a piece of plastic. The operation to install these pieces is quite brutal and it can take many months for the swelling to go. You will get numbness around the knee as there are nerves that are cut and muscles split. Apart from the bones being sawn through. Sounds a bit frightening but it is well worth it for the end result.
I’m glad I went through it. 5 months Post Op and I can now do way more than before the op. We are off to Kgari (Fraser Island) again this next week and looking forward to it. 😁
Hi Col & Rose We loved meeting you last week. Your segments on the Maroochy River are brilliant -you really have a wonderful talent for showcasing our beautiful area. I look forward to many more shows to follow you on :-) Cruise Maroochy Katie
I remember walking from Cotton Tree to Pincussion Is. There used to be a boardwalk. My mates Dad used to tell us the river mouth was north of the Island in the fifties but we couldn't imagine it, then in the early 2000's the river mouth once again pushed through on the southern side and no matter how much certain individuals tried they couldn't change it back. Mother nature will have her way.
Hi Col & Rose There is certainately a lot of history in the old river. Apart from pre settlement/first nations history there are great stories of the cedar cutters rafting logs at Dunethin Rock and floating them down river and out the moutn to be picked up by passing ships. The early settlers trying to carve out a living in isolated spots along the river and the fact that the river was the only "highway"in the area and is the reason why most of the early houses faced the river.
Thanks Dave. I did get some footage of some cuttings in old tree stumps up in the forest to use for something like that. I might see if I can fit it into the story somehow. Thank you.
Yes I’ve found so many people have different starting and ending points and reasons for having to go through it. Mine was worn out from years of hard work, while others are sport related and others are accident related. Some are just unlucky in the general pool lottery. At three months now I still have bad days where I just have to take it easy and ice up for a while.
It will get better. Hang in there. I’m two weeks postop and walking a mile a day. Still have a lot of nerve pain but each day it gets a little bit better.
Anethitst hit my syatic nerve doing the block , then hit a nerve in my leg , failed to get me under , and eventually got the milky dream needle, woke up in recovery in mad pain in my hip .still.suffering .
As they say, it’s a marathon not a sprint. Set realistic goals and work towards them. At 8 days I was still working towards a Rom of 90 but 8 weeks I was at full range 140 and we were concentrating on building confidence on stairs and hill climbs. Stairs are no longer scary and am getting back to normal life. Today is week 11 for me and getting more and more friendly with my new knee. Keep up the positivity and you will get through with flying colours.
Wish her luck for me. It does take a while but it does get better with time. Get her to set some small but achievable goals and bit by bit it will improve.
I’m based on the Sunshine Coast and had private health insurance so was able to choose when and where and who and even could choose where to do the rehab. Dr Bourne an orthopaedic surgeon did the surgery at Buderim Private Hospital. Then off to Eden Rehab Hospital in Cooroy for the next week after 3 days in Buderim. Everyone’s journey will be different but can say my knee is now nearly 10 weeks Post Op and still have swelling. The pain is managed with just Paracetamol Slow Release but is now way less than before the op. We are now getting ready to re-start our travels and get some more videos out soon. So just remember that at the moment your knee will be just getting worse. After the op it will be getting better and better and you should be able to get back to a somewhat normal life. Hope it goes well for you. Yes there will be a bit of pain before the gain. All the best. Col.
It is normal to be stressed but just remember why you are even considering it. I couldn’t keep up with Rose. You will see this in some of the other vids we have done, especially when we try a 6 k walk at Woodgate. 😵💫😖
@@Explornations I totally understand I’ve got arthritis in my right knee for a very long time now bone on bone inner side with couple nasty bone spurs which have formed and my left knees on the same track pretty much I can still do thing but has definitely slowed me down
I’m a month away from a total knee replacement. Also 70. Nervous as hell but your videos made me feel a bit better. Driving after 6 weeks isn’t bad. I drive an automatic so maybe it’ll be quicker for me.
Mine was the left knee and I was able to work the clutch on my Nissan Patrol although I am yet to try it off road. But a right knee is used for operating the brake and you need to be real confident with it. Your insurance may not be valid until you get the go ahead from a doctor. I’m glad you found the video helpful. I have heard a lot of negatives and thought I would make something positive .
I'm in my 10th week and just released from PT. For the operation I went into the hospital at 6:15am and walked out at 1:00pm with a walker. I never really had any pain until my celebrex ran out on day 30. Even then it was fairly mild and controlled with over the counter meds. I even stopped those after another week. I ditched the walker at day 10 and used a cane until until week 6 but only because of snow and ice otherwise I would have gotten rid of that when I started driving at day 25. At this point almost all the tightness and swelling is gone. But later in the day after a busy day my knee still swells a bit and I put on the ice machine. Alternating movement, rest, ice and elevation are the key. Sit to long and the knee gets stiff. Movement breaks that up but then swelling starts to set in. Then back on ice and elevation just to get to the point where I can start moving again. It's a balancing act. Oh, and massage. After the ice, I work the scar and around the knee cap with my fingers. Pinch, pull and rub. At this point quad weakness is the biggest culprit. Now being out of PT it's time to get serious in the gym.
It was alright in the end and it has healed very well. I did watch her wash her hands well before and she did swab it all down so I wasn’t too concerned. But yes she could have done more. Thank you for picking that up. 🙂
Thanks for that. Make sure you do the prehab work, have a positive attitude and hopefully you have the support that I have had and all will be well. I just had the one done. Good luck with doing both. That will be a lot tougher I imagine.
To some it might be Fraser Island, but that is just the 5th name that I know of. Before it was Fraser Island it was Fraser’s Island named after the captain of a ship that was wrecked. Before that it was Great Sandy Island, and before that was named Great Sandy Peninsular by Mathew Flinders before recent settlers realised it was an island and before that was called K’gari by the local Butchela people. I’m happy to call it K’gari. It’s easier to say when you get used to it.
WE had some fun trying out my car. It went well, so far so good, next is a lift, snorkel and diff breathers. I'm new to 4W Driving and I'm getting the car ready for a few bucket list trips.
Yes we were quite surprised to see that much water flowing. And it had dropped quite a bit over the last few months after all the rain earlier in the year.
We stayed at the Dingo Caravan Park in the little village of Dingo. what a great little park and the hosts were excellent. they wised us up on the secret waterho9les you see towards the end of the video.
Thanks David, Yes it was a great trip and look forward to going back with some better camera and sound equipment. the car walk around will be up next Sunday.
