The "No modern clothes" rule is strange indeed. But it's just an oversight on the school's part. Sounds like it's a rule targeted at black people, because what do the white children in that school wear on heritage day?
I don't understand! Why are you saying that you never run from nothing... Is there any problem? None of what you are saying is new. White men said they bought AAns ancestors from Ans many centuries ago (the reality is it happened in some cases), it is not new. Who cares ultimately? ... look, this An generation and the one before is not even responsible of anything. Instead, they are welcoming AAns. May you find peace in SA/Africa like it happened to many of us.
Montrose , harrismith is a halfway stop between DBN and JHB..that's where you put gas and rest for a little bit.. Alot of small towns along the way ..but the N3 bypass most of them , you kind have to drive off bit that will really delay your travel time
To do the Garden route, you can fly to Port Elisabeth, rent a car and visit the small towns like Knysa, Wilderness, Mosselbay, Victoriabay and Tsitsikama national park. You can also do a train ride up the Outeniqua mountains in George from the Transnet museum. You should not be in a hurry and enjoy the beauty of the region.
Nice contents as always Guys. If you guys are not far from Sunninghill, why don't you come by for a braai next week Wednesday. We will be hosting a group of about 20 African Americans from the IBWPPI. It would be great to have you around
Hey bruh, it's alway great to see you and Adrienne's vlog. I'm looking forward to purchasing your book. In the meantime, you guys enjoy Durban and safe travels.
This American loves, loves, loves a good road trip in South Africa. It’s about the drive and taking in characters of small towns and staying at lodges along the way. Johannesburg is fun but South Africa rural areas and small towns and townships are the heart and soul. It is where city folk go during festive season. To understand city one has to understand village, rural and small town. My lady is South African and our numerous road trips are unforgettable. A 12 hour drive is not supposed to be done in one effort. It’s 3 days of exploring and learning and taking gorgeous photos.
Hey fam❤ Here for my crush, Your beautiful wife But I'm straight so my Sisi Hurricane Katrina I watched from beginning to end because I'm a huge Joel Osteen follower. So when he faced that public backlash I learned erything. Also Michael Jackson charity work pulled through nicely. Ryt now though i am happy to see the real survivors✊🏾 Won't lie though I'm happy this SAA (South African American) fam survived
On heritage; Xhosa were imibhaco on Heritage Day even though it is less than 150 years old, the dress code having been inspired by Dutch Burghers in the Zuurvelt / Albany County
Pledge you to do garden route from JHB to Durban, Durban to East London, East London to Port Elizabeth, Port Elizabeth to Knysna or George , Knysna or George to Cape town that is one of the long route in South Africa and most beautiful long road. Hallelujah ❤️🙏
Heritage Day At the dawn of democracy, South African Politicians, Scholars and Activists conceptualized the commemoration of overcoming Colonization, Apartheid, Segregation, Marginalization, Economic retrogression and constitutionalised racial oppression. As our foreparents instructed through our oral traditions, it was important to recognise that at the barrel of a gun, protect your most precious commodity, which is our Culture and Traditions, thus we changed 24/9 - King Shaka Day to include all of our different traditions during the Heritage Day.
The drive to Durban or Cape Town is best done in December when the route is so green you lack the words to describe it. You could sleep over somewhere to break up the 12hr drive to CT. If you have the money, the luxury train is also fantastic.
You made it to Durban ✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾 Just came back from visiting family on Tuesday. Would have loved to meet, and maybe bring you to my mom’s township. It’s just ten minutes from the Pavilion Mall. I still have vivid images in my mind of the New Orleans disaster. People in that big hall, people being rescued from roof tops, and that famous preacher refusing to open up his church and help people. Oh, and the yte people fleeing in a very long convoy, leaving the poorer black people to face the disaster on their own. Remember also former pres Bush under fire for his slow response.
Just to drag something out of context, that long break you referred to are farms but mostly uninhabited land. When nay sayers 'whites' own 90% of land, is just utter rubish when the valleys, canyons, mountains, rivers and flatlands that not issued 'Title Deeds', are not included in that land ownership measure, nor is a distinction between land for cultivation and land for occupation. The majority of South Africa's land that you see driving from province to province, is owned by the State.
For heritage day: 1. For the majority in South Africa, your heritage is the heritage of your father, even when mixed. For some, it will be the mother’s heritage if the mother is unmarried. 2. The ‘no modern attire’ means no western attire 😂, since we are still trying to reclaim our heritage after “independence” from colonisers.
Black Americans reinvented themselves, and evolved into a new, distinct people and culture. You're a researcher, so I'm sure you know by now how "Afrikaans" culture developed, and today it's fully recognized as a distinct culture, and it's even less rich, less recognized, and less appropriated than Black American culture at that.
Suggestion: A video contextualizing culture, and what it means; -How culture doesn't have to be ancient, to be valid. -How culture is not a stagnant concept, it evolves. Then contextualizing Black American culture, which is thee most widely appropriated by people who don't even KNOW it's an actual culture.
@@asadelmalikphd way back in high school, we went to school with a guy who wore do-rags, baggy shorts and Timberlands (which he kept untied), and we knew he was dressed American style, there was no ambiguity, he didn't just blend in with everyone who wore "modern clothes"... that's culture! 🤷♂️ I still remember his name was Benjamin, that's how much he stuck out, and he used to put on head-phones and walk around rapping to himself😅 In his mind, he was a whole Black American, so how is THAT not a unique cultural fingerprint, if it's so tangible someone all the way across the Atlantic even knows which clothes to choose which will make him look Black American, and not only HE recognizes this, but even others around him?
