People will “DIY” them selves into a bigger cost repairing their own cars boats and RV instead of taking it to a professional. And when they can’t fix it they sale to someone who looking to buy their problems.
@CalledToWander
@CalledToWander 2 дня назад
We have exactly the opposite experience, which is why we do what we do and share what we share. We could never afford to go to a dealer or RV repair person every time something went wrong. At $150+/hr and most RV-related tasks many, many hours of diagnosing and repairing, if you can figure out how to fix something then do it. Plus with RVs, things break and then break again. Knowing why they break and how to repair yourself is invaluable. We've gotten ourselves out of many situations on our own from having DIY experience. We know our limits. We know how engines work and can diagnose most issues from research. But we don't touch the engine. So every RV owner needs to know their limits. But DIY is not a bad thing if you are halfway handy and willing to learn.

What kind of labor should people expect to pay for this?
@CalledToWander
@CalledToWander 2 дня назад
General RV repair/install labor is between $100-$150/hr plus mobile charge if someone comes to you. This guy included the refurbished unit with his labor for somewhere around 1K. It's been years and I don't remember the full amount. But it was a few hundred for the refurbished cooling unit and it took him around 5 hours for install.

I have seen some comments on other channels that this does not adhere to the eternibond. Also, if you apply over all the edges of the roof appliances and screws, how hard is it if you want to replace something; the bathroom window cover, for example?
@CalledToWander
@CalledToWander 2 дня назад
Eternabond and Henrys do not chemically/technically play nice together. But in reality, over 3 years later and we've just done a few touch ups with Henry's and only over the Eternabond. Where the Henrys meets the edge of the tape is solid. Plus we bought enough Henrys (5 gal) to put 3 thick layers on. In our 4th year we will touch up with another layer around the appliances and solar panels. If you follow our suit, you should do all roof maintenance prior to laying down the Eternabond. We put new fans, vents and invested in heavy duty covers so that we would not likely have to deal with replacing them after we went through the effort to do the Eternabond/Henrys. We jsut came out of a nasty hail storm in Nebraska and we're glad we invested in the best vent covers and in extra coats of Henry's as the roof didn't show any signs of hail. To answer your question directly - it would be difficult and require lots of precise cutting and then, of course, resealing if you went back to the Eternabond/Henry's seal.

I have a dometic rm2351 that never has cooled well. Bought the TT brand new about 3 years ago and it’s always sucked. It will cool but no better than 40° and once you start actually using it in real conditions where your opening it it will be sitting at 50°. This week it’s been sitting at 45° not in normal use. 1:04:37 Not safe for any meats,milk etc. I’ve tried,themister,leveling,now I’m testing a new 140mm twin variable titan fans to see how it’s going to work. If it helps great but I don’t have much hope for this fridge at this point. I’m probably going to end up having to replace the cooling unit or swap the whole fridge to something that works better. My local repair center wants $80 to diagnose and $160 a hour to work on it which is fine if they can actually fix it.
@CalledToWander
@CalledToWander 2 дня назад
Yeah, "newer is not always better" is a mantra we've lived by in our RV lifestyle the past 6+ years. If they "guarantee" a repair, you are right - a good repair person is worth the labor. But if its a guessing game that bleeds you dry, you might as well invest that money in a different product.

What we paid is all relative. If you bought before COVID RVs like this were cheaper than if you bought during. Now the prices are coming back down. Plus if you buy a West Coast RV the costs are higher than an East Coast RV, apples to apples. We found a good deal at the time that, knowing what we know now, we would have negotiated if we were buying now. Now you can negotiate price. Then, RVs were selling sight unseen.

This may be true, but we have had minimal issues in 4 years of application. For what we were looking to do (more permanently seal our vents and other areas prone to leaking) without spending thousands on a new EPDM roof, this has done more than what we expected and saved us lots of money, time and worry. Plus, we just went through a crazy hail storm a month ago and there's no rips or tears in the coating like there would be in an EPDM or TPO roof.

@CalledToWander
@CalledToWander 15 дней назад
No need to be scientific. The fact is that this is bright white, which reflects light more than anything less white. So fundamentally, it is reflecting and not absorbing light. But there are too many other factors not worth testing in a lab... where we park, angle of the sun, time of year, etc.

Great video! you did a great job on the roof. Imo it doesn't matter that the Tropi-cool doesn't adhere to the Eternabond. As long as one product butts up to the other. Both are superior products! I am currently in the process of doing my RV roof and I'm looking to see how other people are doing theirs. Did a thorough cleaning today using tsp with a little bleach. Will do the perimeter with the Eternabond as well as around the vents etc. Then Saturday will roll on the Tropi-cool. My trailer is 25' do you think 2 gallon containers will do it?

Thanks for the info! Yes, while they officially do not play well together, the reality is that they have served us well for 4 years! Plus we're not the kind of people to want to skimp when it comes to our roof - or water damage in general.
