Hi there, My son just purchased an RV and it was his first purchase for an RV. He is not experienced in RV's at all and didn't inspect the RV very well when he purchased it. He was kind of in a bind for somewhere to live because he made the decision to quit his job and move out of the apartment where he was living and go full time RV-ing and start his own business. So after buying the RV and with some discussion with me, we found out that the roof wasn't in as good of shape as he thought and it needs some TLC. So we been watching videos and reaching roof coatings. We like the idea of the Henry 887 roof coating and wanted to use the Eterna bond tape, but seen that the 887 doesn't adhere to it, so I called Henry Tech support and discussed it with them. Since the Eterna bond tape has a very slick surface, I asked if one was to sand or scuff up the eterna bond tape so the 887 would adhere to it...Tech support said that sanding the Eterna bond tape would work with the 887 adhering to the tape. Just thought that I would pass this on

Thanks! We put 2 coats on and have very little issue. But do what Henry says and it should work!
@stevewinter3188
@stevewinter3188 7 месяцев назад
The tech people also recommended using 885 wet patch / seam sealer instead of using the Eterna Bond, so we pondered on that and went with the 885. Since I live in NW Ohio and he lives in North Carolina, he is doing this all by himself. He got a Ryobi 1800 PSI pressure washer, some buckets and scrub brushes and started cleaning all the bad areas and around all the roof penetrations. He said that he would have all the repairs done today but I haven't herd from him on the repairs yet. He was going to put 2 coats of the 885 on and try to use up the whole 1 gallon can so there would be nothing wasted. So as weather permits, next week he'll pressure wash the whole roof and let dry for the 887 application. He purchased a 5 gallon can of the 887 and will apply 2 coats of that. We figure that should do the trick and seal the roof up for the next 10 years or more. Just thought I'd pass on the info for anyone reading your comment page. @@CalledToWander

Pro tip, lol. If you have to get up on a Henry's coated roof, they are extremely EXTREMELY Slippery When Wet! What I have used for years is to wear an old pair of socks, no shoes, just socks, and even when the socks get wet, you will still grip *very well

Your video was exactly what I was looking for. Showed in detail how tropicool works on eternabond. Already purchased eternabond and tropicool but not installed yet. Will be using both and will do two coats on the eternabond with tropicool just for thickness and glad to know the spray is great for patching any problems. Thank You😊😊😊

The spray was not as great as I thought, but good in a bind. For twice the cost, we're going to buy a gallon this year (Year 4) and put a light coat over any areas of concern where we sprayed in the past but want a thicker, uniform coat moving forward.

@CalledToWander
@CalledToWander 6 месяцев назад
We carry a spray can of Henry for stopping emergency leaks. Haven’t had to use it yet. But that’s the plan. In theory nothing sticks to Henry’s. But in reality, Eternabond sticks to everything so in a pinch it should likely stick for the short term until you can get either the spray or a gallon of Henry from Home Depot

I was concerned that the Tropicool wouldn't adhere to the eternabond tape, so I called their customer service. They suggested I paint the tape with an acrylic primer. I followed their recommendations. Unfortunately, the silicone still peeled off the tape. I taped the perimeter of the roof and turned down the edges to the gutter. Now that the coating has peeled, it looks really bad from the ground. Decor makes a primer for their silicone coating. I have purchased it and will try priming the eternabond tape before re- appling the Tropicool.

I was going to do my roof the same way...Turn down the edge so it folds into the gutter. IMO this is a critical step as the TPO can become compromised along the edges. Everyone seems to be overly concerned about the Tropi-cool not sticking to the Eternabond but imo just butt the 2 products up to each other and don't try to cover one with the other

@CalledToWander

To be honest the spray can is not the most amazing thing. But it’s good to have in a bind if you happen to hit a branch or something that scrapes away the Henry’s. A gallon is so expensive but would do a better job if more patchwork was required

Thank you for your videos! Super helpful. I’m thinking of doing the same thing so it was nice to get an update. Would you use Eternabond again?
@CalledToWander
@CalledToWander 10 месяцев назад
We’ve learned that Henry has its own roofing repair tape we’d look into that is compatible with the sealant. But Eternabond is truly impenetrable. So it would depend on what we learned about whether or not to use the Henry tape.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I have been watching videos and researching RV roof repair/treatments over the last several years. Seems there are advocates and nay sayers for everytihing. My take on all is that, as you said, cleaning and proper preparation is crucial. Assuming proper prep, most products will perform and it comes down to longevity (obviously). The products that last the longest will be the hardest to remove when replacement is necessary. Complaints about Eternabond Tape come from those who are removing an old application. Is the replacement necessary from improper prep that has shortened it's potential or has it served 8-10 years or more?

Here's my conclusions from watching dozens of videos.....Have fun! TO DO A EPDM RV ROOF: Recommend spray bottle down a 50/50 solution of Simple Green & Bleach, a section at a time, then wait a few minutes and pressure wash off using a 40° fan spray at least 8-12" (depending upon PSI) away from the EPDM roof then let dry 24 hours. The next day, reseal top edges of all the edge trim pieces with non-leveling DICOR sealant, reseal all cracks with DICOR Self-Leveling lap sealant and/or use EternaBond (only where it's really needed) then coat the entire roof with HENRY's Tropicool 100% Silicone white roof coating. It can really be that simple.....JUST 2-3 DAYS OF WORK!

Great video! you did a great job on the roof. Imo it doesn't matter that the Tropi-cool doesn't adhere to the Eternabond. As long as one product butts up to the other. Both are superior products! I am currently in the process of doing my RV roof and I'm looking to see how other people are doing theirs. Did a thorough cleaning today using tsp with a little bleach. Will do the perimeter with the Eternabond as well as around the vents etc. Then Saturday will roll on the Tropi-cool. My trailer is 25' do you think 2 gallon containers will do it?
@CalledToWander
@CalledToWander 2 месяца назад
Thanks for the info! Yes, while they officially do not play well together, the reality is that they have served us well for 4 years! As for how much you need, it was more cost effective for us to buy the 5 gallon container than 3 gallons. Plus we're not the kind of people to want to skimp when it comes to our roof - or water damage in general. So we wanted to have more than enough to put multiple coats on the roof so we'd be where we are now... worry free.

Thanks for the update. Just got 2 questions. would you attribute the reason for peeling off the eternabond tape is due to the material of the eternabond , hand touch residue , or need an extra step to prep? Also Is the tropicool in a gallon/5 gallon thicker than the spray can?
@CalledToWander
@CalledToWander 10 месяцев назад
It’s due to the Henry’s not being compatible with the eternabond tape.. We didn’t know this until afterwards. Henry’s makes a roofing tape that can be used instead of the eternabond. Or just use the eternabond and plan to touch it up once a year or don’t use any tape and just use the Henry’s

Thanks again for your video. 0 regrets even with the eternabond tape issue. I did a really thick coat and even removed my ac and also applied over the vents and skylights.. not 100% pretty, but 100% more worry free. My recommendation is to save the money for the eternabond tape and apply just the Henry's. You can apply as thick or thin as you want.

@wtmc1 Месяц назад
How did the Henry's hold up on your AC cover? Did you have any issues with the Henry's running where the side of the camper meets the roof?
@CalledToWander
@CalledToWander Месяц назад
The AC cover wasn't necessary. But just because the Henrys is bright white and the cover was aged. It's held up as good as everywhere else. As for the drips... it depends on how meticulous you are. Like painting walls in a house, you could tape the side of the camper to ensure no drippage. We didn't. And I painted it on in a hurry, so there are some places with drips... But for a 25+ year old RV, we're ok with a few drips here and there lol
@lamariusdsp420
@lamariusdsp420 5 месяцев назад
I'm torn. I want to go with Henry's silicone. Use it on roof of my house. It's fantastic. I peeled the cracked and leaking Dicor seals. Should I reapply the Dicor then move to silicone? Or should I use the silicone roof patch in place of the Dicor? If I use the Dicor first I'll probably wait a month before converting to silicone.
@CalledToWander
@CalledToWander 5 месяцев назад
We fixed or installed new appliances (fans, ac cover, etc) and resealed used dicor the way you would with any roof. Then we slapped Eternabond over these seals to lock in the waterproof. Then we rolled over the whole roof, including the Eternabond, with Henry’s. Triple protection. It will be difficult if/when we have to remove any fans. But that’s why we did that work first. Hopefully years away from needing to do any work on the roof again

Can you apply the Henry's up to the Eternabond but not over it?
@CalledToWander
@CalledToWander 2 месяца назад
You can. One viewer said its the adhesion between the Henry's and the side of the tape that makes the most strategic bond. But again, we put multiple coats over our entire roof and only in rare occurrences (where we encountered a tree branch that could not be avoided) did any of the Henry's actually scrape off of the Eternabond. If left alone, it will get along great together.

This may be true, but we have had minimal issues in 4 years of application. For what we were looking to do (more permanently seal our vents and other areas prone to leaking) without spending thousands on a new EPDM roof, this has done more than what we expected and saved us lots of money, time and worry. Plus, we just went through a crazy hail storm a month ago and there's no rips or tears in the coating like there would be in an EPDM or TPO roof.
