... back in 2018 when I could afford a 5.0 Fx4, I thought it couldn't be outdone. Three months ago, Apr 2024, I bought a remaining 2023 2.7 Stx and couldn't be happier. With the wide tires and 20" wheels, the smoothness and quiet cabin with good power couldn't be nicer. Selling a testicle just didn't seem worth it, just to have a Raptor. .
All that information and you forgot about the cracked rods and main caps... I drive attuned 3.5 EcoBoost which I love the low end torque but it lacks the sound of the coyote which I have one in a fox body and a roadrunner in a boss 302
Your 2.7 will be in the scrap bun. wile my 5 has 270 thousand miles and feels its first drive. and why would any one spend sixty thousand on a truck. And have a 6 popper.
I have a 2018 2.7 ecoboost with 144k miles and its smooth at this point the 2.7 in the f150 has proven itself to be reliable if you take care of it! How many miles do you have on it now?
I own a 2019 Ford Expedition with an extended warranty. Thank Heaven. Same exact transmission failure and slippage as shown on this video. After some difficulty with the dealer, Ford repaired the transmission. Three week repair (literally). Expedition runs perfectly now. It's night and day difference. Smooth upshifts and downshifts at all speeds. Flows for the lower gears to the upper gears and then back to the lower gears. Truly exciting. $2,200 for the extended warranty more than paid for itself. I've now owned a 1996 Ram, 2003 Suburban, 2006 Armada, 2015 Expedition and 2019 Expedition. The Armada was the only vehicle without transmission problems. Every other truck/large SUV had substantial issues, hence why I now purchase the extended warranty.
I've heard that at higher mileage, the turbos (EcoBoost) can get gummed up. I'm in the market for a used ~2020 F-150, and for my budget it will likely have 110-130k miles (180k km). One thing not mentioned in the video is "long term reliability". Does the 5.0 win out there?
So i have a 2019 2.7L and my friend recently got a 2020 5.0..i drove the 5.0..am i tripping thinking my 2.7L feels faster? We have the same trim and all the only difference is the engines but my 2.7 feels way lighter on its feet
2019 2.7L Ecoboost with 10 speed 4X4 now have 105,000 miles, no issues. Averaging 21.5 mpg with only synthetic oil, 87 octane. Quick truck. Like to surprise people in sport mode.
@@techevar it exists in the 5.0s starting 2021. For now, it doesn't seem to be an issue but it will eventually be an issue IMO. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment.
Have a 2018 with just over 75k on it. To be honest, I beat the livin daylights out of it because it is so much fun to drive. I change the oil every 3k and keep good tires on it. Knock on wood, no major issues yet.
I have a 2019 ford expedition xlt. Had rhat recall done and now experiencing that jerk or hard shifting. My ac has gone out aa well. It only under 70.000 miles.
@@penelope.1904 wow! That's crazy! Thankfully we have not had any HVAC issues. We did have to replace a ABS module around 60k miles. Thanks for taking the time to comment and for watching! Keep us updated!
Haha that was one of my first videos… I've gotten better… at least I felt like I have gotten better. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment!
And people wonder why I like a manual gearbox so much. No $6000 surprises. Manual in my Nissan is now 37 years old. Never been out of the frame. I could rebuild an old Automatic myself, but this new stuff, no way.
Ford has been kinda takin a dump lately. Coming from a guy who's owned 5 different Fords. Mine have all always been trouble-free, but I know for a fact I can expect transmission issues with my 21 10 speed. So far it's been fine, but I'm just waiting for the CDF drum to fail. I never thought I'd see the day when I'd consider another car brand, but I see so many issues with these damn 10 speeds among some other things that I'm losing my faith in a brand that I really want to love.
I'm ford fan too but like you I'm considering my options. But really everyone sucks right now. What can you go with these days and not have to worry about issues in the near future. GM trans and liffter issues, Ram… ahhh would like better than a GM but… Toyota is working out major engine issues right now.
An ordinary pickup truck doesn't need a 10 speed transmission. 3 speeds did fine for decades, then the 4 speed "overdrive". Automakers are completely out to lunch. And just to clear things up, GMC-Chevy and Ford transmissions are made by the same company.
Correct the big two sucking it up right now in the transmission world… GM was struggling with the 6-speed also, surprisingly ford didn't have a ton of speed issues.
I'm so glad i held on to my 2001 lariat 5.4 f50. It has 331000 and has never left me stranded. I had a accident and it was totalled out i bought it back and fixed the slight damage. It still runs great. I was thinking of buying a new one glad i didn't.
I would definitely hold off a little bit… I believe they will eventually work the bugs out if the trans issues. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.
The “swooshing” sound you speak of on your F150, are you sure it’s the transmission? I see you have the 2.7 Ecoboost and you might just be hearing the sound of the turbos moving air as the boost increases since you mention it happening while pulling a grade. If this is the case the sound you hear is completely normal.
Its not my turbos. I'm on my third ecoboost truck and none of them made this sound. I'm going to try to capture the sound. I've had a 2.7, 3.5, and my current truck is a 23 -3.5. Thanks for the response.
If you are a coyote guy, don't look under the hood and ignore the exhaust note, just drive the 2.7 and write the check. I've had both over many years, and many times, and I have zero regrets with this motor. I will admit, I don't typically keep a truck for more than 3 or 4 years at best and don't drive more than 10k per year. The 2.7 is a blast to drive .. my two cents.
The CDF drum issue is way more widespread than people know. It’s very disappointing Ford didn’t fix until 2023+, and isn’t supporting the older trucks which are failing constantly. These are fantastic units once that one issue is fixed and the bushing doesn’t walk.
@@jeanclaude7018 I wonder if they would have offered more tech if they could have rung in more support. It seems like the couple of titan/armadas I saw seemed a little dated tech-wise…. Its really sad they are dropping the titan though. I guess I could have bought another Nissan truck…
@@theoverdriveconsumerchanne4424 I'm the last to know if tech is outdated, so I'd be the perfect Titan buyer . My 1987 Hardbody has NONE, except for what is in the new Sony deck I just put in ,and even that has more connectivity than I will use. Oh, and the stock Hitachi EFI system! What I really want is just to turn the key and have reliability year after year. I've gotten very simple in my old age. Liked the honest video. Keep up the good work.
The van is going to have more room and be a little bit more kid-friendly while the Highlander will be higher off the ground and feel more like a truck. It will be less kid-friendly but honestly, both are great options. My wife said she would never drive a minivan again.
If i had enough money and was dumb enough to buy a new truck from any manufacturer, id immediately switch to Amsoil trans fluid as a preventative measure
Good quality oil never hurts but I think this issue is deeper than fluids. There is a mechanical design issue with the trans. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment!
Amsoil may be doing research to see what is the cause. Meanwhile, my Nissan manual is 37 years old. No work on it whatsoever except a refill with Amsoil gear oil.
@@jeanclaude7018 I would love to back to the manual transmissions. Our vehicles would be a lot safer this days since no one knows how to drive them 😂. First vehicle was a manual…. Boy I miss it.
@@theoverdriveconsumerchanne4424 All my vehicles to this day have been 3 pedals, except one F-150 with a C-6 that I actually rebuilt myself out of necessity of being broke and in college. I'd never try that on a modern automatic! My Peterbilt was set up with 10 x 4 twin stick, and I had a gear for every occasion and beyond. I just like manuals because I keep things a long time. Almost 30 years on the same Nissan truck. Not very American behavior, but it works for me.
To be honest, no matter what you buy these days nothing is truly American. Then when you want to go outside the “American” brands - Toyotas, Nissan etc are manufactured in the US. What is really the best option today?
Because Toyota quality has really been slipping recently, especially when they dropped the 4L V6 & 5.7L V8's for those crappy turbo 6ers with/without the hybrid trash!
@@cigarsgunsandgasoline8032the gov is also trying to destroy the best things… it started with gas cans, then choking diesel engines with corrosive liquids, now no more v8s. Eventually, v8s will be a thing of the past-at least that's the way we are headed. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment.
@@cigarsgunsandgasoline8032To be fair the toyota 3.4 liter v6 is a brand new motor for them. As with any manufacturer. There will likely be quirks that will have to be worked out overtime. Toyota has always took the time over the years to perfect their engines. I would expect that they will continue to do so. One of the biggest challenges for all automakers today. Is to try and keep u with the constant epa regulations the US government keeps upping. That's why we have 10speed transmissions, turbo 4 and 6cyl engines in trucks. That's why we have these tunes that really kill the performance of our vehicles. That's why we have all of these plastic parts to save weight on vehicles these days. You can blame the government for alot of the bs we have to deal with. @cigarsgunsandgasoline8032
my work we got a 2022 F-350 with the 10 speed with 60,000 miles with zero issues practically a trailer on it it's whole life about 16000 pounds probably around my only complaint is the exhaust break on the 10-speed is absolutely horrible I almost could never get the exhaust brake to work properly on its own without using the manual shifter best way to describe it it's very weak and very faint compared to the 6-speed it's a night and day difference between the two besides that it tows amazing
Interesting note on the exhaust breaking. There is no telling what change ford made to the engine to comply with the ridiculous diesel rules. That may possibly be a factor. Thanks for watching and taking time to comment.
Wow! I have heard very little issues with the heavy duty 10-speeds! Engine went out too?! No way! What ended happening to the engine? When I had mine I was hearing rumbles of engine issues but I guess I didn't have it long enough. What are you driving now? Thanks for taking the time to comment and for watching!
@@theoverdriveconsumerchanne4424 The lifters self destructed. Ford rebuilt the tranny and engine under warranty, without a problem. But it still blew my mind. I've driven Ford trucks for over 30 years and this was a first. Traded for another one in 22 and it's doing fine.
So far my 2018 STX 2.7L has held up very well. I plan to keep this truck for as long as I can make it last. While I have heard of folks having transmission issues with the 10 speed I have been blessed so far. If my memory is correct, my milage is in the low 90K's.
That's awesome! I've got a buddy with a 2020 with 200k miles. I think there are batches of trucks that skipped this craziness. I hope you get a million miles without issues! Good to hear from you and thanks for watching!
But it’s only because of the turbos. Put twin turbos on the 5.0. Take the turbos off the ecoboost and you got a plain 6 banger. Put turbos on the 5.0 and you’re going to need tires quickly
I have a 2013 Ford Edge SE, 3.5L FWD, a little over 97k miles, had a recall for the brakes booster, was scary and very dangerous but they fixed it pretty quickly, also had to replace the transmission fluid, was vibrating and shaking, my fault though I think because I had a trailer hitch put on and towed the "largest" U Haul trailer loaded down with it from Denver to S. Florida, runs fine now though with plenty of power and drives and runs like new (knock on wood). I love it!
I bought I believe the same front speakers just the magnet was too big and I didn’t get a adapter bracket for them and wasn’t sure if I put one on if my door panel will fit back on
I know this video is older but I’m on the struggle bus on which eco boost motor to get. I tow a 5500 lb travel trailer and a 22 foot bay boat religiously. Seems the 2.7 is the better built least common problem engine.
My 2016 ford edge 3.5 is a shit box, rdu is crap, transmission is crap, water pump is crap, the ptu is made to burn up, god forbid you change bank 1 anything…o2 sensors, manifold you name it. Avoid the car lol
There’s a lady on RU-vid who put 1 million miles on a 2013 Hyundai Elantra in just 5 years! Hyundai made a special odometer emblem and gave her a free car. If you search 1 million mile Elantra you can see the story! Any maintained vehicle should do 200,000 miles easily and still run great.
