Welcome to the Collector King a channel that wanted to talk about fun stuff like collectibles but instead ended up talking about the state of pop culture. Let's do this.
19:10 who tf greenlight this absolute trash like multiple people had to say lets publish this... self inserts are the worst forms of media ever made period...
I truly like your videos, but this book writing is so terrible with so much self insertion so the author can project I just can't get through the whole thing, like I couldn't get through this if there was a Ford commercial guy voice over reading off of a narration script so good it could put the best of the best to shame.
I hate that this is considering a feminist queer rappresentation of writer, lefr wing writers snd gay writers can be absolutely be good writers just as right wing writers or straight writers (and some also insert their ideology on their books). Someone that adds proclaims herself as lesbian dyed hair feminist on social medias are just the equivalent of male dating coach (creepy incel guys that women hate), not every guy is like that but at a certain point you'll see them and bekive they are all like that
8:04 can we talk about how AMAZING Starfire looks in this panel (no seriously, as an artist everything about the way her hair and dress flows make me happy)?? Like the only thing the artist did right was making Starfire look great.
Most of these are valid criticisms but i don't really see the point? lots of bad comics are made all the time what makes this warrant a 20 minute video.
Easy fix for the school stadium part that even as a non writer myself can fix: Just let starfire go pick up Mandy as she doesn't want her daughter to just run away from school anymore, but right when she was picking up Mandy, backfire suddenly appears as she tracked starfish location and finally found her. Everyone who was exiting the school freaks out and starfish never expected her sister to find her, so she wasn't prepared for the battle and lost... (I'm not really good at wording this and sorry if it's kinda generic but it's what I came up at the moment 😅)
I think she was adopted, Starfire is the sweetest cinnamon roll, there's no way on God's green Earth that Starfire could push out and raise this Menace to humanity.
You gotta realize that the artists being hired in this generation are the cringe artists of tumblr, twitter, deviantart, rule34, etc. Basically the theatre kid version of artists.
ok so like, i read it, and it isn't good, but good god did YOU even READ it? you complain that mandy isn't really likeable and that by the point where starfire asks about college applications and mandy storms to her room, that maybe we'll see why mandy is acting like she is. to me it felt like the book was screaming in my face that mandy hates how she only gets attention from people because her moms a superhero, they definitely could've have shown us that stuff more i think, but i found it pretty clear. also like just look at the birthday photos in a majority of them star looks like she's trying to get mandy to show a superpower too, eventually having given up and looking at her phone in the later ones, starfires was a great mom, im not saying otherwise, but she also obviously has some crushed expectations of her daughter. and how was the summer camp flashback a "its everyone else's fault" she literally just didn't tell people who she was so she could live without being someone special for once in her life and told a whitelie to someone who had asked what her mom does and when confronted she's defensive, and thats all we see. where is she deflecting blame, she admitted to lying and sulks that the one time she felt like a normal person instead of a superheroes daughter was over and it's kind of understandable i feel. i will admit that mandy being mad at the selfie bit was a bit weird, but it also continues to show us how much she just wants someone who does not care about the superhero stuff, someone who sees HER. for all she knows her crush manipulated her to get into her house to get that selfie of a superhero team when she pretty much hates the entire notion of superheroes since everyone has just cared about that she's the daughter of starfire, she's not mandy the person she's starfires daughter and thats all to everyone except her friend, starfire and probably the titans. it felt like an overblown reaction but i understand the intent behind that. i did also realize the school stadium thingy was weird so yeah no complaints about being weirded out by that yes, mandy getting her superpowers and beating blackfire out of nowhere feels cheap, but if i can theory craft here, something you glossed over is that mandy is shown getting to practice her powers later on, with the titans and it blows up in her face. aka she's suddenly not in control of them anymore and still obviously needs practice.... so its pretty evident to me that in the fight she fought on pure instincts of just needing to save her mom not even caring that she really didn't know what to do, just doing it anyway, it's a classic and it's dumb but i can't say i hate it. and in retrospect of reading it and then making the video like i assume you did how did you get to the part where blackfires powers manifested after starfire and still start the video by highlighting that mandy seemingly inherited nothing? like yeah, she's showing nothing now, cause nothing has manifested yet. also towards the end of the video you say it could've been squished down to like 30 or 40 pages...... what? weren't one of your main gripes that the pacing was weird? i assume you mean just taking out a lot of stuff and just having the pure necessary parts of the story and do you realize how quickly it would move at that point, cause it would need to introduce her, starfire, lincoln, claire and blackfire, it would need to establish a frienship between mandy and lincoln, unsaid feelings both ways between mandy and claire, tension between starfire and mandy and a fight between starfire and blackfire where star loses so that mandy can realize that she can't just run anymore and that she wants to save her mom. that would not be easy to squeeze in to 40-60 pages without it being ULTRA rushing through the story, instead of what this had. i don't know why you said this tbh.
The art style of this book looks like the graffiti somebody tags on a white wall, then they decide it looks so bad they go back and paint it white again.
2:16 who tf the father also she looks more like ravens daughter but minus idk whoever she’s have a kid with maybe beat boys happy go lucky type of attitude.
