If you push your weight on a large dresser and iron out the lead you don’t leave loads of imprints by keep tapping the lead with dresser , also using a bit of lightning conductor is good for creating welted seams

Hi mate lovely job,how did you manage to form the drip edge on outside and bend under copper strip where there is no scaffolding,
@slbleadworks

Thank you. It was a bit dodgy. But I done it all by leaning over.

I found it so difficult finding a tradesman who could do a lead lined stepped box gutter on my house, having just looked on your website at your gallery, I wish you lived near me. There’s some beautiful work there. Please think about getting an apprentice to help carry the trade on

Stuart, you’re a legend. But we still missed out on the cut and nip. The vid was not complete. ☹️ What would happen if you use a stapler on the building paper instead of nails? Would the staples react to the lead? And what is the minimum and maximum length of welts to welts?
@slbleadworks
@slbleadworks 8 месяцев назад
Thank you and thanks for watching. Sorry I didn’t show the cut and nip. But I have this in some of my other capping vids. With a stapler you’d have to be careful with the metal the staples are made from as some metals react with the lead yes. And with the maximum length of the welts it depends on the thickness of the lead and if it’s close to a corner etc.

Thank you. It’s definitely improved to be honest. I still have to be careful though and get a few twinges here and there.

What does the building paper do and should you put it in lead valleys as well???.
@slbleadworks
@slbleadworks 3 месяца назад
It protects the underside of the lead from alkalis in concrete,stone and screed. It also helps reduce corrosive attack when laying onto plywood or oak. Yes you should put it in valleys too. Thanks for watching.

You know when you fix your lead work into masonry with the nails and copper washer. Do you just use a normal plug to do so? And normal nail? Thanks mate
@slbleadworks
@slbleadworks 7 месяцев назад
I use a red plug and a 25mm annular ring shank nail. Thanks for watching.

Nice work as usual. Do you notch the copper clips in so they don’t interfere with the next course of lead?
@slbleadworks
@slbleadworks 8 месяцев назад
Thank you. Yes that’s correct. If you don’t notch them in you see them when you set the next panel in. Especially in code 4. Also it stops the lead from sliding around.
@jonnieharris479

That looks amazing! What are the copper clips which pin the lead down called?
@slbleadworks

Thank you. Exactly that. Copper clips of sometimes referred to as cleats. Thanks for watching.

I always watch your videos, your work is unreal, just one question though what is the purpose of building paper?

What is the purpose of the building paper please? Also you didnt show the installation of the copper? 😉 Surely it cannot be continuous? As in , one piece?

love your videos thank you, but how did you turn it up under the copper?
@slbleadworks
@slbleadworks 8 месяцев назад
Thank you and thanks for watching. I heat the lead up to soften it and then turn it onto the copper with my fingers. Sometimes I then tighten this with some seeming pliers. This process can be seen in some of my other capping videos.
