But why would you do this?? The advantage of SDI outputs are that they don't have an internal lag like HDMI. So if you have lag from HDMI and then you're feeding it into SDI, What is the advantage? Why would one want to do this unless they only had SDI gear?
It's nice but the reason I bought the FX6 is that I wanted to be done with the robocop add-ons on my BMPCC. An FX3 is good for a gymbal, but if you are robocopping it into a cine-body you might as well buy a FX6. Way more neat to have that bigger body with XLR, with a big battery, without all the little cables and adapters. I had to do some interviews for a political party and one mini XLR to XLR cable on my setup was defect. I thought, enough is enough, sell it all, buy a nice FX6.
But why not show it all hooked up and running? Doesn't the micro converter need power? How much power does it draw in a one battery setup that's already powering a camera, monitor, and potentially other items. Don't get me wrong, this is a really cool idea, I just would've liked to see it up running.
Caleb, I LOVE this product but I’m gonna be that annoying person that wants more…. Any chance you could make one that fits the bi-directional sdi-hdmi converter? That model is amazing for live stream/broadcast folks like myself. It allows either sending program/multiview back to camera operators or with only one input it acts as a splitter which is the lowest latency way to get into the switcher by going camera hdmi into it, then hdmi out to a monitor and sdi out to the switcher. The versatility is amazing.
Interesting design! Just have a couple suggestions after watching your video. Allen or torx fasteners for side pieces vs Philips would be a lot nicer. A cheese plate option for the rear of the unit for those of us that have a v mount or gold mount plate already. A hidden dtap inside the door area. Not on the door, just directly behind the camera so one could choose to plug in there for power from a dummy battery etc and hide the cable. A 3.5mm audio jack to XLR solution would be a nice upsell add on. Think wooden camera A box or similar. A flatter side door with some more 1/4-20’s.
It reminds me of an article I saw about a rental house who made a similar cine-style box for the Fuji GFX100 II, but I don't believe theirs was for sale. I'd really like to see how you would go about rigging it up with a top handle, a monitor, shotgun mic, maybe a HDMI transmitter, etc and then using it in a shoot. I have a C70, not an R5C or anything, but I still think it looks pretty cool.
Is possible to replace the plastic (3D printed) element? As an environmental documentary film maker, even more plastic in the environment is disappointing. However, great design and idea.
Will This work with the Canon R5II? I am waiting for tilta or smallrig to come out with a cage for my R5markii but would love to rig it up with cineback. I love my cineback for my FX3 but would love to get this one as well!
@@peterbrown818 R5C with all the gimmicks you need to make it work properly will cost you almost the same plus all the frustration, and still never be close as good as a dedicated camera for video.
correct me if i'm wrong: the two compatible cages you'd mentioned only mount to the camera via the threaded holes on the bottom? is there no other point of contact that's secured to the camera directly?
Looks nice, but what's the point? Are you going to shoot a 100 people crew film with it? Or you're gonna be alone 99.99% of the time while shooting? You lose an EVF which is the most crucial thing on a camera, without it you will either miss your exposure, wb and focus all the time, or you will be 3 times slower on a the set becuase you're using camera assists. People using "a couple of grand" cameras need to stop rigging them, it makes no sense for the type of work they do.
Well that’s genuinely just untrue 🤦🏻♂️ - Before I bought the cinema cameras I have now, I was rigging my R6 because I needed to be able to mount things such as Follow Focus, Distro plates, larger monitor and so on. Not having the EVF doesn’t mean you’re going to miss exposure or white balance. Sometimes the EVF’s are worse than the LCD on some cameras (Looking at you Sony 👀) You’ve got no idea the kinda “work they do” or why they need certain set ups.
