Why do you think or require that it’s supposed to be working in a fight? It’s an art form that’s using martial movement drills to educate the body… it’s not trying to be “practical “ … both people in the video have done combat sports, they know the difference
This is nice dancing with 100% cooperative/passive partners. Amazing how many people believe the advertising that this is martial whatsoever. Go back to Daitoryu if you want something that has martial value.
The hours of practice causes the mind to think in a different way. Almost like creating muscle memory. A good fighter will take what he needs and what suits him from the various disciplines. Remember, it's the man that matters not the style of fighting. You can build a soldier, but a fighter is born. If Mike Tyson had taken up Karate or judo, he would have been world champion in either of those styles. You can take a man with no fight in him and teach him to follow routines and even pass Dan grades, but put him in against a born fighter with natural instints and he's chopped salami. This is just another fighting style and there is much to learn from Akido.
Aikido technique is not only beautiful and long, it can also be effective in certain circumstances,. but artificial ataques from uke, who does whatever the tori wants..., all this makes aikido a dance game...I'm not against dancing..., I'm for equality :) If the tori does what he wants, the uke has the same right too...
Of course it's artificial. It's a method of training. Boxing is very effective, but you don't expect some half-naked guy to attack you with ridiculous looking balloon gloves in the street, do you?
Aikido is so effective that they had to invent this “Dancing” in order to protect the one receiving the technique from getting seriously injured. Without it you just cant practice, everyone would end up in the hospital after every class.
