Pros of having a coach - motivating to keep training Cons - pressure to keep training. Give yourself a break mate, take a week off. Seriously, it won't hurt your training. Sometimes we get a little too obsessed. chill ♥
Son, you should have left the turn out of it. That introduces skill, which, I am not sure in your case, no offense. The bottom line, the paddler is the limit here not the ski. If all you can handle is intermediate than of course your times will be close. Perhaps, that was your intent, if so, you should have stated such. The lighter faster ski, is faster YOU are the reason for the close times. The slower ski matches your ability. But fun to watch. Really, next time do a point to point and leave the turn out of it.
Congrats. Regarding the wider bars, if you're going to do any serious gravel, they're an absolute must for better control. Sounds counterintuitive, but on a challenging gravel descent you'll be in the drops thanking the gods of gravel for the confidence every mm of handlebar width affords.
My goodness where have you been? Only just getting Zwift 😮 hahaha (life changing along with the kickr). N.B. The riding in one spot for theee hours is the easy part, having that Tim of yours hassling you is the hard part hahaha
Hey Tim - I'm in my early 50s as well - getting old sucks - I've got the same issue. I've found that when I complete a race especially multisport or triathlon I really need about a month from any real training - I just put away my bike and kayak and just do easy running - jogging for no more than about 40 mins and I find I start to feel better slowly and after about 6 weeks I start mixing training up with a bit of a paddle or bike ride
Running seems to put me in the biggest hole. It’s been 6 weeks so far and still feel shit. It’s worse this time than any other so I think there’s something else happening. Thanks for your comment.
Need to get a blood test. IF we can rule out Overtraining Syndrome. Then, my WAG is...: 1) Low-t (or hormone imbalance) 2) Undiagnosed sleep disorder (which can be related/contributory to depression), 3) chronic fatigue syndrome brought on by a COVID low grade viral infection or (less likely) Epstine-Barr, 4) Thyroid disorder 5) Low Iron and/or Vit. D. ALL these can be determined by a blood test. Don't waste any more time... The sooner you get a blood test to find anything unusual, the sooner you can get back to normal. Delays for seeking answers and treatment only compound the psychological impact to OCD type athletic personality types. Good Luck.
Just had COVID. Have the Sunshine Coast 70.3 in Sept, but can’t do anything more than a small walk without getting tired. Going to have to pull off a miracle to make the event.
With you there mate, though not from COVID. 2 weeks off turned into 6 weeks and 4kg gained, now way behind the eight ball for the same event which will be my first 70.3. I'll be there though, you can do it, we can suffer together LOL!
Well that’s shit; sorry you’re going through that Tim. Just a thought, could your Cortisol level be too high? If it stays high it can cause fatigue that can last for extended periods of time. I’m no medic, just putting it out there as a possibility if it drags on. Love you guys, always enjoy your videos.
i just signed up for this years race, originally was planning on doing the gravel specific ride, but then reading the information, it sounds like they have responded to feedback, and it will be very tame, pure gravel. So instead, I signed up to the classic 100, planning on riding my gravel bike equipped with 50mm aggressive tyres, front suspension fork and a 50t rear cassette. I'm also very confident off road rider, which im hoping will give me an edge as i wouldnt be the outright fittest rider. how do you think that will go given your experience? my other bike option is a dual suspension trail mtb which i think will be too much bike looking at your video.
I also have a checkpoint with multiple wheelsets, I have 2 sets of the same wheel model, so I dont have to adjust the brakes, and I also have a cassette for them, so they are just a 5 min swap. Also also have a X01 rear mech and 10-52 cassette for when I need more low gearing otherwises the XPLR 10-44 is my daily driver. I run road tires on one set, gravel on the other. Got rid of my other 2 bikes
I chanced upon this video trying to find an UHS alumni list. I was there. I absolutely remember the whole class of 1987 getting behind the rowers on this day and being super proud of the achievement. I even remember the chant. The day stands out because of this unspoken class war between the nearby schools we shared the buses with. Well done Tim Whitburn you seem super healthy and I wish you all the best.
Perfect follow-up video to the Mocke surfski classes. I started with a Zen, too. Was a wonderful learning ski and so much fun in any condition. I now have a Think Six which is perfect for me now but would have been the wrong ski to start on. His commentary is spot on. The scary part is if he wasn't doing laps in and out where he could control when to head in, and if the conditions had worsen while getting fatigued. That's when wrong choices can be disastrous. Challenging himself in a controlled environment is such a good way to advance and hone skills. Great video!
Well done, its on again next Sunday 9th June, I am doing my first event ride but only the 50k, my excuse ....age however if I work at it maybe the 100 k next year
Great video guys, its on my bucket list to visit Australia one day though I would not know where start, toy have shown some amazing places ob your video's ❤
I don't think its at all about lack of endurance. Its about lack of funding. Stage races are expensive af and the women's races just do not bring in the same kind of media interest. Yet. I hope this will improve in time. And in shorter races, I prefer the women's courses because the men's take all day. I don't really want to watch a whole day of racing especially when the first half is basically a group ride.
