I've Been Struggling Since My Last Race

It's been 6 weeks since Zach Mach and I've hardly trained since then. I'm on struggle street and keep putting myself in a hole whenever I train. And with less than 9 weeks until the World Champs, I'm starting to worry if I'll be ready.

Sorry you’re not well, but pleased you are listening to your body, giving yourself time out to fully recover your health.

Need to get a blood test. IF we can rule out Overtraining Syndrome. Then, my WAG is...: 1) Low-t (or hormone imbalance) 2) Undiagnosed sleep disorder (which can be related/contributory to depression), 3) chronic fatigue syndrome brought on by a COVID low grade viral infection or (less likely) Epstine-Barr, 4) Thyroid disorder 5) Low Iron and/or Vit. D. ALL these can be determined by a blood test. Don't waste any more time... The sooner you get a blood test to find anything unusual, the sooner you can get back to normal. Delays for seeking answers and treatment only compound the psychological impact to OCD type athletic personality types. Good Luck.

It’s definitely not overtraining. I’m heading to the doctor today and will hopefully get a blood test and can see what’s going on

Hey Tim - I'm in my early 50s as well - getting old sucks - I've got the same issue. I've found that when I complete a race especially multisport or triathlon I really need about a month from any real training - I just put away my bike and kayak and just do easy running - jogging for no more than about 40 mins and I find I start to feel better slowly and after about 6 weeks I start mixing training up with a bit of a paddle or bike ride

Running seems to put me in the biggest hole. It’s been 6 weeks so far and still feel shit. It’s worse this time than any other so I think there’s something else happening. Thanks for your comment.

Just had COVID. Have the Sunshine Coast 70.3 in Sept, but can’t do anything more than a small walk without getting tired. Going to have to pull off a miracle to make the event.

With you there mate, though not from COVID. 2 weeks off turned into 6 weeks and 4kg gained, now way behind the eight ball for the same event which will be my first 70.3. I'll be there though, you can do it, we can suffer together LOL!

Well that’s shit; sorry you’re going through that Tim. Just a thought, could your Cortisol level be too high? If it stays high it can cause fatigue that can last for extended periods of time. I’m no medic, just putting it out there as a possibility if it drags on. Love you guys, always enjoy your videos.

Thanks 🤩 I have no idea about my cortisol levels but if I don’t improve soon I’ll get some tests done
