Join us on our journey home to The Villages, Florida. Now you might ask, why do we call ourselves The Villages Natives when we do not yet live there? That does sound a bit presumptive doesn't it. Well, both of us were born and grew up in the area that is now best known as The Villages and we are on the path to return home in retirement to an area that is radically different from when we left many years ago. We will share part of our story, our retirement home buying process as well as our perspective on what it is like to return home in retirement after decades away serving our nation. Thanks so much for joining us on our journey home.
You two are an adorable couple. I love how you both speak so sweetly to each other. Your new home is just lovely! May you enjoy many happy years there. ❤
@@user-lo4bf7lt7i Thanks so much guys and it was awesome meeting you and hearing your story. Can’t wait to see you in a few years in your new home. Keep us updated when you come back to visit so we can catch up with you all, and thanks to Kaitlyn for being such a great sport listening to us chatting. Enjoy your visit!
Love the home very good choice. Love the white cabinets. I think adding extra cabinets in the laundry room would be great. Can't have enough space. Love the white countertops as well. You have a fabulous place to call home.
Thank you so much. You are exactly correct about the extra cabinets in the laundry room. I believe it will be a beautiful added feature to the room. It truly is a work in progress. Thanks again for your sweet compliments. Blessings to you and your family. :)
Absolutely beautiful home, inside and out, just like you two! We appreciate you guys giving so much helpful information! We are about a year or so away from buying, and your home is pretty much everything we want! Thanks again, and God bless you and your family!
Thanks so much for your encouraging comments and we are so glad that the videos are helpful. We really love our home but the hours of talking together and researching really paid off. Be encouraged, you will find a home that is just as beautiful as ours and just right for you. Thanks again and keep us updated on your progress.
So enjoyed your video; we recently had a lifestyle visit. Hoping to retire and move there next year. We'd love to meet up with you guys for coffee when we visit in May. Sooo much to take in
Thank you so much for your sweet comment. Absolutely, we would love to meet you guys for coffee! You are so right, it is a lot to take in. All the best as you try and narrow down your search to what you are looking for. If you have any questions, shoot us an email or a Facebook message and if we don’t know the answer we will try and find some information for you. Take care and Blessings! :)
Great video. The doggies are so cute. Everything is looking beautiful. The kitchen is so nice and bright and your counter top is huge! The master bedroom and bathroom are also spacious and beautiful. Love all the photos and the service memorabilia. Very lovely. Warm wishes for much happiness.
Thanks so much for your encouraging comments and the puppies enjoy being with us so we just let them be a part. We did have to edit out a few outbursts but for the most part they were great. You mentioned a few areas like the master suite and the counter/island. For us, these parts of the home are really special. The counter/island in the kitchen is the hub and we forgot to video the functional side but it is very well laid out. Thanks so much for watching and commenting.
I really like the Veranda homes. Our layout of our exterior is similar because we're in a block and stucco courtyard. Our back wall borders Buena Vista blvd, so we don't have to maintain that grass, however there's some palm trees there and an oak next to it, which drops debris onto our drain dome. I don't know what we can do about it yet. We have sliding doors on our lanai that are covered with vinyl. We want to get those replaced with glass so that if we close them we can leave the living room sliders open. I don't think we will need a mini split because the lanai is not a big as yours. We have a birdcage that covers that side of the Lanai and covers a large patio where we have an umbrella table. Love your front sign too!
Thanks for sharing and the Veranda homes and Courtyard villas are a very similar concept and they both provide great privacy. Have you contacted the Districtgov office about the debris? I wonder if they could trim them back so that there would be less or no debris. I have heard that some do their lanai sliders in vinyl but upgrading to glass should provide you greater sense of enclosure for you to leave your interior sliders open. From my reading there are a lot of people who enclose their lanai and then open the sliders as you say, and allow the home AC to take care of the room rather than spending on a mini-split. It sounds like you are truly making it your own and thanks for the compliment on our sign. As April mentioned, Signs by Jackie were extremely helpful to follow through and get it exactly as we had ordered. Thanks so much for sharing and we hope you have a great week.
Thanks so much for your encouraging comments and, though we are totally biased, yes our daughter is very talented and a great person to her core. It was truly our desire to make this house into our home. It won't be too long for you all and we are both excited for you.
That is awesome! Thanks so much for sharing and it sounds as though your experience was just like ours, and in one day. Everyday day I look at our walls and I think, that was some of the best money I have spent. Have a great weekend.
Was Everett a Chaplain in the Army? If so, did he happen to know Charles Bailey? He was also a Chaplain and a dear friend of my family since I was a teenager. Lovely home. We close on our Villages home Aug 13th. Can’t wait!
Thanks so much and congratulations on your new home! In what area did you purchase? Yes, I retired as an Army Chaplain in 2021. We had a Deputy Chief of Chaplains named Charles Ray Bailey; that is probably who you are referring to. I did not know him personally, but I served with him in Germany when he was the U.S. Army Europe Command Chaplain. He was a great gentleman and an exceptional leader in the Army Chaplain community.
@@thevillagesnatives3491 We are purchasing a home in Monarch Grove. We’re in the stressful part right now of packing up, downsizing, giving things away, organizing, getting quotes, etc. Yes, Charles Ray Bailey is exactly who I am referring to. He was our pastor at church when I was a teenager and married the daughter of longtime friends. Such fine people!
Your yard is lovely. Do you plan to add any palm trees to your landscape? I really like the Robellini palms. I have one in my front yard and it looks great. They are smaller and easier to maintain.
Thanks so much, and we do not plan to add any palm trees as of now. I (Everett) like the Robellinis but April is not a big fan, so we decided to forego them. Thanks so much for you great question and for sharing your experience.
Beautiful!!! Thank you for the tour. We really thought we wanted a designer home, but the verandas are also a great option. (We don’t have a dog and probably never will so we don’t need a fenced yard)
Thanks so much and you are more than welcome. We think the advantage of the designer home is that you can buy a lot and configure your house the way that you want, and the main advantage of the verandas are that you get the extra privacy. Either way you can definitely get a very good home to meet you wants/needs. Good Luck and let us know what you decide.
Good question. The once a year flush is for the tankless water heater on the outside wall of the garage. We plan to add a whole house water filtration system very soon. Thanks and have a great weekend.
What a beautiful home! I would leave the dark furniture the way it is. It is beautiful and balances out the muted, light tones in the other pieces. I love how you have so many family photo collages. Your home is you. ❤
Thanks so much for your encouraging comments. That is a good point about the dark furniture, thank you for your keen observation. And yes, our house is truly becoming our home. We have moved so many times it truly feels so good to just slowly let this house take shape. For decades we have always moved into a new home, and set it up immediately realizing that we would only be there a short time, but this transition is so much different, in such a good way. Thanks again and have a great weekend.
@@thevillagesnatives3491 April, the dark wood furniture complimented by the light accents and soft goods of alot like they have the Sandals Resorts in the Caribbean decorated.
.....just think....on MY television, you are my TV show (Go ahead, I dare you to chuckle at the pun😂) Gorgeous house. ❤❤❤Like the idea of the rock around the side of the house. The rock will make it look neat and clean. Q: What did you do with all your seminary books? Between all the bible studies, theology books, and academic literature, the volume of print can be overwhelming!
Well, you did get a chuckle and a smile, and we are so glad that what we are doing is meaningful. Thanks so much for your gracious comments and the rock that we plan to use is a white marble chip, so it should have a nice clean appearance. All the books? Great catch...no massive bookcases anymore! Our remaining bookcases are actually in the office closet. We have given away most of what we had except for the essentials and they fit nicely into two bookcases in that closet. Again, we really appreciate your feedback and look forward to hearing/seeing how you all make your new house your home in TV.
Lovely home. I'll be stealing some of your ideas for our new home. Also, at the 7 minute mark, there appears to be damage to the bottom of the garage door frame. If there is, will The Villages repair it?
Thanks so much and yes you caught it! That is actually the door gasket and it is damaged thanks to our 4 lb. Yorkie, Abbie, so I will be repairing that one. She has separation anxiety and one of the first times we had to leave them alone we exited through the garage and she was not happy. Thankfully that is the only mishap and they are now accustomed to their new home.
The House, outside tour, looks nice. I like the Hard scape, just enough, not overpowering. The 6 inch gutters a good idea with Florida Thunderstorms. There are many Homes in Florida built with no gutters at all, as it is thought the sandy soil will absorb the water.
Thanks so much for your comments and that is the look that we wanted to go for with our hardscape. Our home came new with gutters only around the front door, so we knew we wanted to have the whole home done. The sandy soil does soak up the rain very well, but what often happens is that directly under the edge of the roof line over time the rain will erode the soil and the grass to form a line of bare soil in the lawn. Having said that, many homeowners here choose to not install gutters. Thanks again and have a great weekend.
Thank you so much for your encouraging and uplifting comments! We are honored to have served and we look forward to seeing you all when you arrive. Keep us posted.
Nice outside / lanai. The corner lot has a lot of advantages. I can think of 1 disadvantage. The grass on the side of your house will require additional maintenance and watering. Would you be able to rock that area? Since you will be enclosing your lanai ( excellent idea), did you consider adding a spider cage to your yard, so you can enjoy the cooler months without insects. That will also protect your small pets from predatory birds and other animals.
Thanks so much and we think the corner lot works great for us, but we do have to water and maintain it. If you mean can we rock the area between the wall and the street, I don't think so, and I don't think would want to do that, though some might. At this time we are not considering putting up a bird/spider cage in our yard, but in the future we might. We are always outside with our dogs when they are in the yard, so we are not too concerned about predatory birds with our presence. The issue with insects and especially mosquitoes is much more of a problem. Stay tuned, in time that might go on the list, and thanks so much for the great recommendation.
Very beautiful home. Thank you for showing it to us. I am very surprised at the second bathroom not having a bath tub/ shower. I think it is the first time I saw that. Is that the norm or is it rare? I think it is great for guests but I think I would prefer a tub once in a while for a long bubble bath with candles and a glass of wine.
Thanks so much for your encouraging comments and we hope that it was helpful. Some or maybe most of the models have a tub in that front suite area, but ours doesn't. That is a good point and we can understand your preference for a bubble bath and I am sure that one of the 100 models that TV has would probably have that. I guess we are much more functionally oriented for ease of use for guests. Thanks again and have a great weekend.
Everything is looking beautiful! Love the wall that surrounds your property. Great privacy. Looking forward to seeing the progress with the lanai. Sounds like it's going to be great. Have a good weekend!
Thanks so much and we really do as well, and we truly do feel a great sense of privacy. As you can tell we are truly excited about the lanai as well and we hope to get that completed by the end of the year. Thanks again and you have a great weekend as well.
Thanks so much and she is truly talented. She has been doing some digital art lately and I think I will ask her about getting that transferred to a print. Thanks again.
Beautiful home! Thank you for sharing it with us. Love the idea that the Villages design homes for "aging in place". During your video, I was looking for three things 1) The duty station wall decor 2) the award/coin room and 3) polish pottery. You did not disappoint. Totally understand the dresser without the mirror. Half my furniture is glued, stapled, or taped in some way from all the Army moves. (Oh the stories we can tell!!) For Christmas, you could do a live trim-a-tree party with your viewers. Everett, you'll have to play some carols on your guitar😊! Thank you for opening your home up to us and blessing us with your family.
Thanks so much and you truly know where we are coming from. "Oh, the Stories we could tell", most definitely! For us Army Vets the whole furniture equation is totally different: will this last another PCS? How much do we spend to replace a piece of furniture knowing that it has to survive # numbers of moves? Etc., etc... Great idea about a live tree trimming party, but I'm not too sure about me playing live. I guess I better get to practicing and praying! Thanks again and we are so glad that it is helpful.
Love your home!! Sure wish we could afford that model. My husband and I will be flying down on Sunday to look at home. Love Love your Yard and Home! Beautiful!
Thanks so much. We understand about the budget, but one thing I realized is that TV has so many home designs that you can truly make your own, and we are sure that you all will do that. You may already know this but this same floor plan comes in a designer home called the Oriole model which you can get for less $$. Be safe and have a great and safe journey. Let us know via email if you all would like to meet up for coffee while you are here. thevillagesnatives@gmail.com
You are both so sweet and lovely. Thank you for sharing the many steps you have taken to make your home beautiful. Sending my heartfelt prayers to both of you as you shared the precious story about Lauren's magnolia tree. ❤
So I was super excited when I saw you bought the same model - Ottawa. I just had Steve Kling out today and love watching what you're gonna do next. My wife is moving down in the fall - I'm elsewhere on a military deployment. We're next door in Dabney - keep up the good work!
Thanks so much and welcome to The Villages! We appreciate your feedback and we are so thankful that what we have shared is helpful. We hope to record a home tour later this week, so stay tuned. We are meeting a growing number of retired military families here and we are making notes for a video about the advantages of retiring to TV for veterans/military retirees. Let us know if you and/or your wife need anything and also if at some point you want to meet for coffee, ice cream, etc. Our email is thevillagesnatives@gmail.com. We will keep you and your comrades in prayer for a safe deployment and a speedy return home.
Thanks for your comment, and I assume that you mean that you don't like electric. Just curious if that is based upon your analysis or have you had an electric golf car that you weren't pleased with? Have a great week.
Congratulations and best wishes for many happy trails riding in your beautiful golf car. I love the flag decal and your names on each side of the flag. Very nice. Enjoy!
Thanks so much and we really do enjoy it. We took a while to decide what we really wanted there and our U.S. Flag and what it represents seemed to encapsulate the message we wanted to share. Have a great weekend.
I enjoy watching most of the videos people make about golf carts, But yours stinks, you stumble around trying to find your words. Also reconditioned is still a used cart. I bought a used Yamaha G2 and went thru it mechanically and added lights and all the safety equipment to make it street legal. PTV is a personall transport vehicle, and a seperate class that you can get from most manufacturers.
Your golf car is alot like what I had in mind for us. We haven't had a chance to start shopping for them. My question is how long is your golf car front to the back bag holder? I'm not sure our garage has enough depth in the golf car space.
Thanks for your comment and great question. Our Golf Car is 112 inches (9 ft, 4 in.) long and our Golf Car Garage, which is one of the shortest in depth, is 158 inches (13 ft., 2 in.), so plenty of room for our car. I have not seen a model that would not accommodate our Golf Car, but that might be possible. What model home do you have? Hope these dimensions help, and let us know if you have any other questions. Have a great 4th of July.
Trivia Q: Is it golf cart or golf car??? Have to ask 'cuz I wanna talk like a Village native 😅😊!!! Your new ride is beautiful❤❤. (Hmmmm, I wonder if MWR will have a surplus sale 😅😅😅 It is probably the only one we can afford😅😅)
Thanks so much and our answer is: Golf Car, well according to our dealer and The Villages Golf Car Store. I see them as interchangeable but here they are treated much more like a personal transportation vehicle and golf usage seems to be secondary in my observation. When you get here get what you can afford when it is right for you. I see quite a bit of older golf cars and they get folks to the same places that the new ones do. MWR Surplus Sale, most definitely! Have a great 4th of July!
@thevillagesnatives3491 Happy 4th to the two of you as well. It will be our last "Salute to the Nation" ceremony=bitter sweet day. Enjoy the time with the family.
@@thevillagesnatives3491 Right on 👍.. A golf cart , is more geared for driving around the golf course, With equipment needed for a round of golf..ie, Bag holder on back , drink holder, sand bottle , ball holder, scorecard ,holder ..etc. A golf car.. more geared for driving on cart paths, neighborhood roads etc, and the equipment package is more safety friendly, upgraded lighting, seats, seatbelts, turn signals, etc…🛺
Thanks so much for your great work here! Just one thing to mention is that many people who own electric vehicles feel that range anxiety is not really a thing... unless they are travelling long distances. With a golf cart you can do one thing you can't (easily) do with a car... buy a bigger battery. However, I do agree with all your logic and think you made a good choice. Most important is doing your homework for your needs!
Thanks for your comment and very keen observation. I looked into one of the electric golf cars but the battery from the manufacturer did not offer an acceptable range for me. I do admit to being over cautious, so personality does impact these decisions. I think that if/when we need another golf car it will be electric. Thanks again and have a great 4th of July.
Just a curious question as a possible future resident. Does your cart have shoulder straps as part of the seat belts? If not, can those be upgraded on golf carts? I notice in some videos that certain golf carts lanes merge in with car traffic. I think I would feel safer with shoulder belts. Thanks.
Thanks and that is a great question. The Evolution D5 Ranger 4 seater does have the three point seatbelts, and actually I think Michael and Tiffany with The Villages Experience RU-vid channel purchased one of those and a big reason was the shoulder seatbelts. They did a few videos on their purchase and seem very happy with it. In many areas here golf cars ride alongside traffic on main roads (30 mph or less) and within neighborhoods we ride with the traffic. Hope this helps!
Hey, guys! I'm just wandering through the maze of Villages videos and came upon yours. It sounds like you enjoy meeting new people, so.....I just bought a house in Dabney last week. I should be moving in by late August after closing on 7/30. My name is MJ. I'm a retired mentalist, having worked in the corporate arena. I'm a recent widower who is returning to Florida after 13 years in Texas (we lived in Oviedo for 16 years). I hope to run into you in a few months!
Thanks so much for your comment and congratulations on the purchase of your new home. We definitely hope to see you and would love to meet you. Once you arrive and have time shoot us a note via email and we would love to meet you. thevillagesnatives@gmail.com
