I hope you have better luck with John Deere OEM starter than I have. My 2020 John DEERE 5075e is on it's third starter at 700 hours on tractor. First starter went out at about 200 hours and second lasted 500 hours. I'm going to try an after market starter this time and see if it will last longer.

How much tension should be applied to the belts? How tight?

Hopefully everybody won't be overfilling their gear boxes like that. The side plug is the fill gauge.

The socket size is 42mm. How did you raise the brush hog to get access to the blades? I raised my cutter then lowered it down on four safety jacks, don’t trust just using the tractor to hold it up. The bolts are keyed. I used all new hardware in installing the blades. Service tech told me the nuts are tightened to 425ft/lbs.

There are flats on the cable end that you are trying to tighten the nut is a washered lock nut that's why it keeps turning on you. It takes 2 wrenches, one to hold the screw on the cable end and one to tighten the nut and I came up from the bottom when mine fell off on my 5055E it is a royal pain to replace.

I bet the owners manual tells you to fill it until the oil starts to run out the side plug. That much shouldn't poor out when you open the side plug. It isn't a drain plug. It would be nice if there were a drain plug. Either you suck it out, or just keep it at the right level and hope the oil stays good enough....which it generally does for quite a long time.

next time use an oil syringe to suck out the oil. Remember when filling the oil up to the bottom screw. that's its job so you don't overfill with oil. Im no expert but have read the manual.

I wish you would of shown more on the square notches on the filter. We're the notches facing away from the engine front and so on. Also you spoke of the wrenches to remove the filter, any idea what JD techs use? One more thing g is procedure to push down on pump once at a time as you did or could you just pump till bled or diesel fuel comes out? Its nerve racking to do videos I know. Regardless it's a good video I learned more than a couple things and I gave you thumbs up for effort definately. TY..

They ought to make that cap plug magnetic so any metal pieces that may be in there stuck to it. I used magnetic oil pan drain plugs in some of my older cars.

Read the owners manual. You need to suck the oil out. The side plug is how high the level should be. Your gear box is way over full and mostly water.

How did you know it was the starter motor that was the problem. Mine is making some odd sounds when I try to start it and I was thinking the starter motor??
@FredSelf
@FredSelf 3 года назад
I tested my battery and the starter solenoid to see if they were working. They seemed to be working so that left the starter motor. In fact I talked to a mechanic who said it might still be the solenoid but the best idea was to replace the solenoid and motor all at once. I have a video that shows the process I went through to test the battery and the solenoid. If you have time to watch it that might help. It may not. But it shows the process I followed. Hope that helps.

This entire video seems to be a “how not to maintain your equipment”. Most valuable content is the comments on how to do this maintenance work correctly. As a new equipment owner, I learn from others mistakes. Much to learn from this video.
