This video is the followup to a previous video where I tested my tractor's solenoid and starter. This time around I replace the solenoid and starter combination with a new one from John Deere.
I hope you have better luck with John Deere OEM starter than I have. My 2020 John DEERE 5075e is on it's third starter at 700 hours on tractor. First starter went out at about 200 hours and second lasted 500 hours. I'm going to try an after market starter this time and see if it will last longer.
How did you know it was the starter motor that was the problem. Mine is making some odd sounds when I try to start it and I was thinking the starter motor??
I tested my battery and the starter solenoid to see if they were working. They seemed to be working so that left the starter motor. In fact I talked to a mechanic who said it might still be the solenoid but the best idea was to replace the solenoid and motor all at once. I have a video that shows the process I went through to test the battery and the solenoid. If you have time to watch it that might help. It may not. But it shows the process I followed. Hope that helps.
Looking back at what I paid to John Deere and what I can find similar parts online for the cost then and now is roughly $400 dollars. I can find it cheaper but my goal at the time was to buy genuine John Deere parts.
A couple years ago John Deere replaced the starter on my 2010 5075E under a PIP. Basically a recall they told me the starter for it then was over $600. They said they didn’t have any problems with the replacements however the replacement Bosch starter is doing the same thing. I’m a big JD fan but these starters suck
