INTERFACE: It's the same screwdriver. Same software...different case.
Hi i'm Tom, Welcome to my RU-vid Channel! I collect and customise different Sonic Screwdrivers from Doctor Who! Here on this channel i'll be posting videos of my Sonics Screwdrivers, which include Custom Sonic Screwdrivers, Prop Replica Sonic Screwdrivers, Toy Sonic Screwdrivers, and many more. I also have some other Doctor Who related items and props that might pop up along the way :)
I'm also active on Instagram so follow for more content and feel free to message me if you have any questions! @Same_Sonic_Different_Case
Yes definitely, it was intentional by the designer Michael Kesteren. The cage around the central sonic cluster resembles a Dalek's gunstick, and it was meant as a reference to Rusty the Dalek's "You would make a good Dalek" line 😎
@@DatCartoonistGuy Yeah, that's an interesting one! I've ordered it and am looking forward to its arrival. Hopefully, it will be here within the next few weeks 🤘
They were from Rubbertoe Replicas, it looks like they've sold out of them at the moment but you can find 3D printed ones on eBay that look pretty good too! 😎
The Cream Aztec was made as an extending prop, but it is never actually seen with the emitter section extended. In all of its screen time, and BTS photographs, the emitter head is only seen in the closed, position, or with the emitter teeth separated by a small gap, Because of this fact, we can only theorize that it had red and black wires like its Grey counterpart 👍
10:45 Well when comparing this one to other Sonic Screwdrivers, the settings on this one are all very bright which is fantastic! But while the torch function does give off a decent amount of illumination, it is not as bright or as practical as a purpose-built flashlight 😉🔦
While the retail version doesn't have the button, it still has the LEDs, as you can see from the red in setting two. I wonder if you can access it some other way

Thanks for watching man! I’m still working on some of the bomber Daleks at the moment, my original plans changed when the Ruins of Skaro set was released but it’s made things easier, I just have a bit of painting left to do now but I’ve also got a few Sonic Screwdriver videos to do first but it shouldn’t be too long after that, maybe next month. I try and space the Dalek collection videos out a bit now plus I’ll have to wait till the next history set to do Resurrection 😉 🤞
Thank you mate! The best way is to remove the base, unscrew the dome, take off the dome, slide the neck rings and neck mesh off. Then just boil the kettle and fill a measuring jug up with boiling water, pop the Dalek in the water for around 30 seconds after that take it out and you’ll be able to stretch the mech off of the top of the Dalek. To get it back on just pop the mesh into the jug of hot water for around 30 second and take it’ll out then you’ll be able to stretch it back on 👍
Another brilliant video from your good self! Great details and information imparted. The shine is shining 👌 Thanks again and I’ll look forward to your LSP Pertwee reviews! James
chair? C'mon, Davros' "chair" is much more than a chair with life support. The actual name for this so-called "chair" is a "Mark I (1) TRAVEL MACHINE". (His first Dalek casings, which were based upon this design, were referred to as Mark II (2) Travel Machines. However, the Mark II Travel Machines were only experimental proto-types. The final Dalek Casings, which Davros rolled out in "Genesis of the Daleks", are called Mark III (3) Travel Machines. Since Davros first introduced "the Mark III Travel Machine", there have been various incarnations of the "Mark 3 Travel Machine" casings that are referred to as "Types" (or Sub-Types). According to the 'Dalek Combat Training Manual' written by the Time Lords, these gun-metal grey casings that we see in the 1975 TV series "Genesis of the Daleks" (as well as the 1972 series "Day of The Daleks" and the 1973 series "Planet of The Daleks") are technically referred to as "Type 4 Mark 3 Travel Machines whereas the silver casings the Daleks used in the original 1963 TV series "The Daleks" are called "Type 1 Mark 3 Travel Machines". For fans who began watching Dr Who in 1963, the "Type 1 casings" (short for "Type 1 Mark III Travel Machines") which appear in the first Dalek TV series, "The Daleks", were the original Dalek Casings. Apparently, this is why they are called Type 1 Mark III Travel Machines. However, according to the 1975 series "Genesis of the Daleks", the more advanced Type 4 casings with enhanced sense globes, mesh, and solar cells, pre-dated the more primitive Type 1 Casings that had inferior sense globes and lacked solar cells. (The Type 1 casings were powered ran solely on static electricity with no solar-powered back-up). Ignoring some kind of unexplained time trickery, the fact that the Daleks in "Genesis of the Daleks" suppose to be the first Daleks in Mark 3 Travel Machines. one would expect them to use the more primitive Type 1 casings. The fact that they appear in the more advanced Type 4 casings does not make any sense since they were yet to be invented. (Furthermore, why would future Daleks use inferior Type 1, Type 2, and Type 3 casings if the more advanced Type 4 casings were available.) Thus, this exposes a big gaffe within "Genesis of the Daleks". Even if the Director or Producer prefered that his Daleks be dark grey in color, he should have used the Mark 1 pattern (no slats or solar cells). Apparently, no one was paying attention to the details or they thought they could pull one over on the fans especially since they had destroyed many of the early episodes at this point in time.
8 year old me would have had a field day with today's availability of toys. When I saw the DAPOL daleks in the BBC shop my jaw dropped. almost immediately the eye stalks broke off. The Dr WHO toys were crap back then
Just wanted to pop my experience buying one of these in here in case anyone in the future has similar issues: I bought mine from the listing that was initially in the description, and received the standard edition with silver paint and four lighting options (somebody else said the same thing in another comment and the link in the description was removed.) I immediately submitted a return request, stating the item I received was not what was advertised, and after days of waiting I was offered a 50% refund with the ability to keep the item. Before I was able to respond, they issued a full refund and I was able to keep the item, and I bought (and have now received) the version I was looking for. The four colour silver 'General' editions seem to be going for around £30, and the six colour 'Limited' editions are going for around £45-£50. I'd encourage everyone to pay close attention to listing descriptions, and to not hesitate submitting a complaint if they receive the wrong version. Although it was a little bit of a hassle, I'm very happy with the item I received, and a have a free standard edition as well! I was looking for this screwdriver a few months ago and the prices were quite steep, I'm very glad for these recent releases that allow people like me, that have only started collecting screwdrivers in the past year or two, to pick these up without paying steep resell prices. Fingers crossed they rerelease the Amazon exclusive Sonic Screwdriver Collection Set. Love the channel, over the past month or so I've been watching so many of your videos, and praying that one day I have the disposable income to sink into buying a Rubbertoe replica... or five.
Love Movie Daleks, the best. I started collecting the RC models but they were selling £200 boxed and apparently new. I have a number of the NSD's, Davros 12" ones but they either broke very easily or never worked. I think they are over priced now, when they came out in 2006-2008 they were around £30.
Yeah you can, I actually modified this one after filming the video. It works pretty much the same as the original ones apart from this one has glue holding some parts in so you just have to break the glue off 😉
Just to say, I thought I was getting the electroplated version with the link in the description, becausr thats what they were advertising, but literally just unboxed it and its the standard version wich doesnt have the red setting.
That’s very annoying, I found myself in the same situation as I’ve bought some extras from a few different eBay listings now and two out of three have turned out to be the standard editions. Just request a return from the seller, explaining that they’ve sent you the wrong item or have put the wrong image and description of the item in their listing and they should offer you a partial refund to keep the item, just decline that and say you already have this version and only want the one that was described in the original listing. Then they’ll have to accept the return. In some cases the seller won’t even ask you to send the item back they’ll just refund you and you can keep the Sonic Screwdriver! 😉 That’s what just happened with one of mine, I’m still waiting to hear about the other return! 😂
@@SameSonicDifferentCase thanks man. Thats exactly what they did. I bought 2 for £60 and they tried offering me £5 back. I told them I'd only accept 50% of what I paid, and they accepted. I would have sent them back and got the full refund, but one was a leaving present for my friend from work, and it may not be the electroplated version, but he doesnt have any version of this sonic in his collection, so it's still nice for him to have. Sucks that it seems a lot of sellers seem to be doing this exact same thing recently.
Definitely gonna get two of them and try to make it collapse and open up again. Had the idea of finding an old classic screwdriver and ripping it apart to help with that
19:43 the only gun metal Shawcraft props were Dalek One-5 & Dalek Seven-2. Only the first 2 Goons were repainted gun metal grey & after that they were all painted in the same "lighter battleship grey" as Dalek Six-7. They all remained this way into Genesis as not all Goons were used in Death to The Daleks, so some were still in their Planet grey, u can tell by the grey ball joints & 1 even kept it's grey plunger arm.
This is a dream. Pretty sure the £30 ebay listings are some sort of scam and you'll end up with the one on the right though. I'm still quite confused about the legitimacy of this product though because its not a literal bootleg, like the 10th and 11th that fill up ebay for absurd prices.
I’d say the slow disco mode is more accurate to the first original prop that was used in Hell Bent. The faster disco mode that’s used on the Character Options version is the most accurate as the chip that was used inside them was also used on two of the four filming props as well as the Rubbertoe Replicas version.
Literally just unboxed mine like 15 minutes ago. This little guy popped up on ebay out of NOWHERE and i assumed i was late to the party. I had just gotten paid and bit the bullet. I'll keep messing around with it and see how i feel, but ive still got my character actions 2017 release as well, which i was trying to repair recently; aka the reason i even went looking around for a new one anyway.
Yeah it can, I actually modified it last night after filming this video. It works pretty much the same as the original ones apart from this one has glue holding some parts in so you just have to break the glue off. I'll most likely do an updated version of that video at some point soon 👍
I think the chase and pulse effects hold this back, It's almost perfect but the chase is shown in the TV show to be quite fast, think the original toy (and Rubbertoe Replica) was much closer there. I don't recall if we ever saw the pulse effect in the show but that looks better on the old toy too. Is a bit of a shame cause if those two were on par with the original I'd be looking into swapping the electronics in my Rubbertoe out! (my Rubbertoe has duff electronics, even a trip back to Nick's repair shop didn't sort it for long :P)
