This week Retro Bassin' heads down to Lake Jackson in Central Florida to meet up with Jon of Small Water Charters and Bassin' Bud Bob. Bob and Retro do a little retro bassin' with the Bass Pro Shops Top Water Tubes, the Mister Twister Top Prop, and the Arbogast Hawaiian Wiggler, while Jon slings some Bruiser Baits. Who will win today's largemouth bass derby? Retro lures of new school baits?

Wow that's a lot of sunscreen for this pasty northern boy, lol. When a Yankee (and it tickled me every time I heard it from Jon) hasn't seen the sun for 5 months it's better to be safe than sorry I guess! Just want to say thanks again to Jon at SWC and of course Retro. Talk about making memories that will last a lifetime. They say never meet your heroes, but I can confirm that Retro is as cool as the other side of the pillow in real life. Pro tip: if you ever get a chance to fish with Retro, get him on the phone, he channels Blutooth Brandon perfectly. While he was on a short call, Jon and I boated 4 bass, probably our best 20 minutes of the day!!!

There is nothing better than 3 buddies out on the water catching fish and having a good time. I had so much fun with this video that I almost forgot to give a like and leave a comment!

Thanks for driving down Chris. Made Bobs trip …whell except maybe when he got his PB the next day. Always a blast with Retro in the boat. Looking forward to our next adventure . Good stuff Bob

Fun episode. Bob doing Wisconsin proud! Loved that he first used a Mepps/Mister Twister Top Prop. I remember when those were on clearance when they were being discontinued. I bought a half-dozen and have one tied on a rod in the shed right now. That was pretty cool that you and Bob had an opportunity to fish together with John guiding. Great stuff! Looks like y'all had a beautiful day on the water.

Trying to get it brought back!!!!! I stop in at Mepps often as they are close to me, and I will continue lobbying for all of us who know how well it works. What is nice is the ones I have stockpiled keep going up and up in value. Who needs to stack silver when there's Top Props to be had, lol!!!!

@@robertstanisch3452 I've done a couple of Mepps stories on the Bass Fishing Archives site and, in fact, just finished another one a couple days ago that will probably be published in May. I too live fairly close to Antigo and have been up there several times, once to interview Mike Sheldon for a few hours. It's a great place! Chris and I are planning on doing a collaboration Retro Bassin video on Mepps one of these days. What city do you live in, Bob?

I live in Menomonie, but my job takes me into Antigo, and Mepps, quite often. Earlier this year I actually sent Retro's info to Dan for a possible collaboration, so maybe I helped move the needle without knowing, lol. They also reduced the amount of walleyes that can be kept per day around here to three fish per day this year. They are trying to get the population up. The size limit for northern pike in the lake next door to where I live is 48 inches so they are trying to make this a trophy lake for them.

It really was. Between Jon cutting it up about Retro and I "nerding out" about the old school stuff with him being firmly in the new school camp and all of us swapping fish stories it made the 6 hours we fished together seem like minutes.

I think I have several as well. Almost everything outside of their soft baits SHOULD be discontinued. I have used a few of their (very fragile) soft plastics with good success, but their hard baits are........not great.

Please find an original uncle bucks buzz bait! White with a red tip. At 14 on Buffalo Lake in Wisconsin I caught my first PB 5.6lb over a culvert connecting the two bodies of water under the road. Still remember everything about that catch!

My previous PB was 5lbs 12ozs, and I remember it like yesterday. I was a sophomore in HS and caught it on Lake Nagawicka, my home lake in Delafield WI. Size 5 Countdown Rapala in silver. Any 5 lb'er in WI is a beast, that's for sure! Down in Florida, we boated several over 5 on the last day, including a new PB for me, 6.8!!! I will have to look up that Uncle Bucks, I haven't heard of it before.

Wisconsin rules. Too bad most of our game fishing is closed until May right now. They do this to protect fish during the spawn there are not as many bass as there is down there so they close the game fishing for a few months up here. They opened up bass fishing for catch and release only a few years ago in certain lakes. I was carp fishing Thursday and there was some ice along the edge of the water and it might get up to forty degrees today

Isn't it crazy how the times have changed up here? Walleye's (besides Muskies of course) are now the prized sportfish and bass have been kicked to the curb. I like walleyes as much as the next guy, but if I want to catch fish, smallmouths or largies (depending on the body of water) are still my go-to! And we can fish them all year now for catch and release (I don't keep fish anyway), so that's been an improvement with the change of focus from our DNR for sure.

Hey, in WI we haven't seen the sun in 5 months, it was SPF 60 and I may have applied a bit much 😂
