Beautiful/effective graphics and this is just what I needed, I never drop knee and just rock over on everything. The first exercise felt really uncomfortable which probably explains why I tend to not drop knee. Thank you!
Thank you again for the comment. The next video might be about rockovers 😉 The first variation can definitely feel uncomfortable at first. You can decrease the depth of the first exercise or place your hands on the ground to decrease the intensity. With time the range will develop and will translate to your drop knees, if you practice them on the wall of course (; Have a good one!
I never ever leave comments ever but this channel is so high quality and covers such novel/interesting perspectives, tips, and exercises that I felt the need to comment. Thanks for your work!!
Fantastic video! I see you have a lot more bouldering vids that will help in the future! (Especially the better posture one). So I am sure you will help me a lot in the future. Consider me a new subscriber. :)
Thank you very much @edgartheman3862! I'm already really surprised by the reactions, did not thought this could happen 3 months ago.. Just very happy you enjoy the video. Have a great day!
Thank you for the kind comment! I believe that additional training for climbing is not only entitled to the "strong climbers" but everyone can benefit of it. Hoping it can inspire more people to bring some more variation in their training/life. Have a good one!
very inspiring as always :D i think i only repeat myself when i comment, but i always want to let you know that i appreciate the content, and also fire up the algorithm haha :D
Thank you very much Thomas! Always happy to see your comments (: Haha I can not complain about the algorithm. I have so many ideas for future videos, feel free to let me know if you would like to see something specifically (: Have a good one!
@@thomasjesiekguy who commented this hasn’t climbed enough. Wrist and finger function are massively incredible in climbing. Thank you for making this video
Ever since I broke my arm mountain biking I've struggled to get back into Calisthenics, mainly because my grip strength is abysmal, it's especially annoying when I know I can do more pullups by my hands just give out. Your presentation is very easy to understand, so would please do a video on gaining that famous climbers grip strength and endurance?
Thanks for sharing your experience! Getting back after breaking your arm can be really challenging. I made a video about hands and fingers that works well together with the hanging to improve your grip: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-I7AsKNyhABU.htmlsi=nNxXW334AulmDYdR The best way to get that climbers grip is by going climbing :p Will definitely make a video about that (: Keep up the great work on your recovery!
Thank you for your comment and feedback @steff420! I'm very happy you tried out the exercise, being stuck in the depression can definitely happen. Make sure to get a solid 1 minute free hang, (here your shoulders are in an elevation) before going for the active hang. You can regress the Active Hang by placing your feet on the ground as shown at 0:56 and progress from there. So you are passively hanging for 3 seconds, pull yourself up by pressing the shoulders down (depression), you hold the active hang for 3 seconds again and lower back down to the elevation in 3 seconds. Work towards 1 total minute for each foot variation and after a few weeks you can give the active hang without foot support a go again. Hope this helps. Let me know how it goes! Thomas
having an office job, while also trying to climb a lot as well as becoming a capable and healthy person in general, i really realised in what bad condition my body was :D i learned so much already, and these exercises will add to my knowledge, so thank you very much! it is crazy, how literally from toe to head you can make so many improvements and immediately get better at everything! edit: i also love that you included clips from the recent Salt Lake City WC! :D
Thank you for the awesome comment Thomas! Your feedback is always very much appreciated but this one warms my heart even more! Haha yes! Now I have an excuse to watch climbing videos all day :p Wishing you a supple spine and a lot of climbing enjoyment!
Thanks very much for the video.. but i have a one big problem with hanging which im not sure how to overcome.. if i use some sticky gloves i can hang up to 2 minutes.. but without gloves the friction on the bar is sliding down and in about 30 seconds i can't hold the bar anymore.. and the skin starts to hurt..
Hey @Shinoku911! Thank you for the great question, It's something I often get asked about. I would gradually build up the time without gloves to condition the skin. Perform your first set without the gloves for +-20 seconds and continue your training with the gloves. With time your skin will adapt, your grip will strengthen and the discomfort will disappear. You could also change up the friction of your bar by wrapping some kinesio tape around it or use wooden rings. Hope this helps, let me know how it went! Thomas
Thanks for your comment! I agree, it's surprising that this topic isn't covered more often. I'm glad to bring it to light and provide some useful insights beyond hangboarding. If you have any specific aspects you'd like to see covered, let me know!
Just getting into this as a 50 year old gym rat. Just set up a bar and setting up ropes and various other body weight apparatus all over the yard because bodybuilding has made me stiff like a useless beautiful statue. Great info... Liked and Subbed!
Hey @Jiraiyashouse666! 50 years young is the perfect time to start. Happy to hear you are building your playground to bring that beautiful statue to good use (: Wishing you a lot of fun and suppleness ;)
This video is really well made, with clear instructions and progression... and you only have a few hundred subscribers! I have no doubt you'll have tens of thousands of people subscribed soon enough.
Thank you for your nice comment @rubenbahr2083! Very glad to hear this feedback, making every step clear is still a challenge ;) Haha, let's hope, I quite enjoy making these videos so lets see (: Have a good one!
these are great progression exercises, thank you! some tips about frequency and how to best integrate these into your training routine would have been nice as well - keep up the good work!
Hey @McShiggy! Thank you for your comment (: That could have been a great addition. There are many things to say about sets, supersets, reps, frequency, deloads. I could make a video about that all by itself. A great starting point is to find a variation where you can perform 3-5 repetition for 3-5 sets. Build up towards a 5x5 rep/set range and then progress towards the next variation. You can program them 1-2 times per week, and can plan a deload every 4th week. Some interesting exersises to superset, could revolve around a more open hip position, like a split squat or a diagonal stretch. Hope this helps (: Thomas
woah, you just keep delivering quality content haha :D there is so much to learn, really creative exercises! i never heard of the shrimp squat! thanks so much!
@@thomasjesiek haha no problem! i truly like your channel, and i hope it blows up! and i like to say what i think about the videos, so you know how they are received! :D and yes thank you it is going great! hope oyu have a nice day too and see you soon! :D
Thank you for your comment @OneLastWo! Very glad to hear this! You are completely right that it could also serve "non-climbing" people. I just really enjoy bridging the gap between the movement and climbing world (; Have a good one!
Thank you for your feedback @user-rb4ne2lc6y. I'm trying to make it better. I use a basic 3-point lighting and have played around with my camera settings and with some overlays in the editing. For some reason it's still not as clear as I would like it to be... If someone some ideas to improve it, let me know!
Haha thank you for your comment @surge-fox ;) I think there is more information than ever to learn how to get this going. This in combination with a passion/obsession for a certain topic helps :p Have a nice day!
You’ve earned a subscriber my Friend this video is awesome!! 🙏🏻🤍 can’t wait to try these , I’ve been trying to one arm hang but I can’t seem to hold it for long, turns out I’m approaching it the wrong way 😂💔
Thank you for your kind comment @Haku..12! Developing the one arm hang can definitely take a while. There are many ways to reach the OAH, but building a solid 2 arm hang is a good starting point. I hope these variations can set you on your way (: Have a good one!
Interesting video! I have an ongoing problem with pain when I bend my left big toe upwards (e.g. rolling off a pebble while walking) so I'm definitely going to try some of those toe exercises.
Thank you for your comment @eilertsenconsult ! I will definitely create a video only focussed on shoulders in the future (: If you want to make your shoulder training even better, you can check out my blog where I present a full workout that you can integrate with the hanging: www.thomasjesiek.com/blog/bulletproofing-routine-for-your-wrists-fingers-for-climbing Hope your enjoy it! Thomas
Hey @roygolan99! Thank you for your interesting question. If you experience a pain sensation in the elbow while hanging, try reducing the load. As said in the video, aim for a strain, not for pain. A strategy that worked well for me is to add some low intensity pushing patterns and a vertical shake. Both can be found in this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-I7AsKNyhABU.htmlsi=TX9ICei4cHTg5Ir2 If you want to integrate them in a full workout, you can check out my blogpost about it: www.thomasjesiek.com/blog/bulletproofing-routine-for-your-wrists-fingers-for-climbing I'll might make a video soley focussing on elbows in the future :) Of course, if the pain is too intense and persists, seek consultation with an in-person professional 😉 Hope this helps! Have a good one! Thomas
This whole vibe sort of feels like a combination of Magnus Mitbø and Chris Heria, which is just delightful. Easy sub my dude-keep making great content! 🎉
Haha thank you for the kind comment @ffafum :p Guess I should start contacting some bodybuilders/powerlifters and taking my shirt off more often :p Have a good one!
