I'm Zach Rizer. I'm an electric/upright bassist and synthesist with a deep interest in improvisation, exploring new sounds, teaching, and continually learning as much as I can. This is where I'm putting all of my lesson videos, solo bass arrangements, original jams, gear reviews, etc. If you have any questions shoot me a comment! I'd be more than happy to answer!
Idk if anyone else has tried this but you can make a flanger by automating the milliseconds of delay parameter inside the comb filter with the modifiers, its not exactly the same but its in the ballpark
I hate this pedal with a passion. Presets are unusable as are 90% of the community presets. Had it for a year and can't program anything that's musical in a live situation. I had one patch I programmed and kind of liked. Saved it to the #1 bay. When I went to hit it live, it wasn't the same patch. And now they've done a "software upgrade", which has made it so now I can't edit it thru my phone and the USB connection to the computer fails at random times, losing any work I had done and even crashing the computer. What a waste of a lot of money and time. Selling it.
I can't get my DD5 to stack like in the video (overdub idk), whenever I try to hold the pedal the looper stops. Does anyone know what I might be doing wrong?
Finally got mine, coming back to this video after playing around for quite a few hours to see if I missed anything! Really enjoying this pedal with different effects. If anyone's on the fence, this thing is unlike any other fuzz I've ever used and definitely worth considering if you want to tap into a more synthetic tone while maintaining the character of your instrument.
Really great demo. I now have a much better idea of what this thing can do. Your explanations are very clear, thanks for all the work you put in. I'm now seriously thinking of getting the LVX.
Pedal sounds like shit out of the box, and requires a college degree to use. Hard pass. I am tired of selling my identity to every yahoo who wants to sell me a ketchup packet to the hamburger i already bought.
this would be the perfect pedal for somekind of acoustique Drm&Bass...!! lol actually this musical gender doesnt really exist..unless I ignore the reference
This was awesome. I’ve been hoping someone would show multiple effects in combination in a reasonable and clear way, my only wish is that you’d have shared an over view of the pedals in tandem!
I’ve got a somewhat unorthodox question and I’d love your take on it if willing. I’m a long-time bassist with multi-genre experience and I’m starting a top-shelf funk band. I love the idea of being able to cover/double some of the synth lines. I already own some synths for edm production and have an HX stomp with decent synths and I’m confident I could just bring keys as well if need be, but I’d prefer not to. I’m pretty set on the C4 due to size and ability and tracking, but I’m concerned I’m not going to use it enough to justify it. Do you have any thoughts/advoce/ examples of synth bass in use you could share? TIA, great video!
@@ZacharyRizer Thank you!!! Topic switch: do you think Spencer will ever make another Wonderlove or Chromatron again? Does 3Leaf ever revisit legacy pedals? Going to try to snag a Proton from the next batch, but wish I could get my hands on one of those.
@@ZacharyRizer Noooo! We must use our Jedi powers to make him do it! 🤣 Last question: analog filters with a down sweep, like the Seamoon or the Emma: any interest in doing a demo of those?
Great review!!!! Would it be necessary to use a compressor pedal in conjunction with the After Shock? Or does the After Shock already compress the signal enough? Thanks and regards!!!
Hello. Between the xerograph deluxe and ehx qtron( 90s big box version) which one do you recommend and why? Can get the qtron for 1/3 of the price of the xerograph deluxe( latest version ) but if the differences are huge i don't mind playing more. I own frantabit which i love. Thank you once again, your videos are very helpful. Edit. Did you place the, chorus, flanger, tremolo, pad before the xerograph? Thank you again
I've never played a big box qtron, so I can't directly say. Buy the Xero is a very different style filter from the qtron. It is very synthy, 4 pole, and very clean. Less quacky and funky than the qtron. I believe I had the pad before, but I dont remember. Honestly either placement would be cool in this situation.
These are some really cool effects youve set up here. Id be very interested in a video where you go through and show the parameters (in particular the h9) that are being adjusted w through the sweep. Thanks for some wicked cool ideas!!
I'm a guitarist but i find your tutorials more useful from the guitar ones. Thank you. Expecting my lvx to arrive any day now. You mentioned that the bitcrusher is in the modulation section. I thought it was in the preamp section, am i wrong?
@ZacharyRizer Thank you. Have you been able to recreate the stutter mode of the ottobit with the lvx? If yes, how, and if no, how would you approach it?
@@iosifkalpaktsoglou2045 to my knowledge the LVX doesn't directly have/support this kind of stutter effect. You can get some glitchy sounds with the granular processor, and some multitap delays. But it won't have the controllability of the Ottobit.
@ZacharyRizer I see. I love the stutter in the ottobit but I wish there was a wet/ dry mix as it completely blocks my dry signal. I place it in an fx loop of another pedal to overcome this issue. One thing I have not been able to find a solution to is how to control how often it occurs. I d love to see an expanded version with wet dry mix, control of how often the stutter occurs, choice of specific speeds in the random mode, envelope and lfo controls of parameters.
Zach, did you ever check out the Mercury X? Feel like you'd love it given your affection for the Mercury 7! Would be very cool to see what you could do with it
I really think, and I may not be the only one thinking this, but you could certainly do an amazing comparison between the 3Leaf Proton and the Iron Ether Xerograph Deluxe. They are fairly close in reverence in the bass community, and a comparison would be wonderful to see/hear. Cheers and thank you for putting these kinds of videos out!
I'll have you know that at this point if I'm researching pedals and all their features, the first thing I type into Google is "[pedal name] Zachary". And so here I am on this video. Haven't even watched it yet. I already know it will be informative and comprehensive. Thanks!
Honestly I never had both to compare directly side by side. But if my memory serves me correctly, the JoshWah was a bit 'dirtier' for lack of a better word. Felt a bit more raw. Whereas the 3leaf is more of a traditional 2-pole low pass filter, super clean and quacky.
@@ZacharyRizer That was the impression I got from watching your videos side-by-side. The gain knob on the JoshWah really drives the sound a lot. I think your memory does serve you correctly. One for grit, the other a bit more for some retro funk
