Silly question here. Can you tune down this 4 inch lift to say 3 inches? I ask because I want to do this on my 21 HD 2500 only one use 35s it seems everyone puts 37s on this set up.
Kryptonite is the best stuff on the market for a Duramax. I've got their stage 3 kit (upper control arms, ball joints, shocks, keys) and I would say the truck rides the same as stock if not smoother.
If you Level your Front end (usually 2 to 2.5 inches) most people forget to realign your Headlights. You risk Blinding oncoming vehicles. I found out this way by experience. Easy to reset your headlights, 2.5 inches lifted/leveled, 2.5 inches down on on the realignment. Turning the alignment screw is all it is.
One small detail you left out, a lift kit is permanent as you have to cut into the frame. It’s irreversible. No more auto car washes, parking garages, maybe even your home garage. A lot of disadvantages to a lift vs a level. Cognito UCAs greatly diminish the CV angle issue and allow for 37s with just a 3 inch level on the 2024s. And cost, levels are a lot cheaper.
Great looking truck. Looking to do the same 4” lift with my ‘19 GMC Duramax but going with 35x12.5 on 20x10 -24. There a lot of trimming that you know of for that setup?
I just came across your excellent video here. Having been a while, what is your evaluation of the setup now? Any changes or further evaluation? Thanks much!
Are you using a 4 x 8 sheet of plywood to gain a little more height under the camper and over the bed rails? I have a 2022 F450 and a Artic Fox 1140. There’s not much more than about an inch and a quarter between the overhang of the truck camper and the top of my bed rail rather scary lose..
Damn, even with double overdrive your motor still revs pretty high. I'd hate to see what a set of 4.56 gears would do to my Torqueflite 3-Speed, much less 5.38 gears.
Great explanation! Not half assing things is my style also lol What are your thoughts on the BDS coil over conversion for the 2020 and up trucks? I'm assuming it dramatically upgrades the ride quality which is what I'm mainly after with a 37/12.50r20.
Love it. Clean, rugged, and functional. I can watch this video over and over again. This is how I plan to upgrade my jeep when it's time for new tires. Thanks!
35's generally don't with a modest offset but 37's do. Factory wheels are great for keeping clearance in your wheel wells. Great option if you're not lifting.
I’m guessing it almost never holds 8 in auto. Mine even shifts down to 7 on inclines w 37’s and 5.38. I was cautious about 5.38 on 37’s but could even use more. Could see 40’s a lot lower even. Especially with your heavy 60’s. Thanks for the info. Btw I’m 2500 at 70 in 8th.
It does on the flats and that's perfect. I don't mind it shifting out of 8th or even 7th on the hills... thats the beauty of having an 8 speed, just so long as we can actually utilize all 8 gears 👍🏻
how are you liking those 5.38's? I have a mojave with stock 4.10's and 37's. I just picked up a travel camper and I live in Denver so a re-gear is a must. Im torn between 5.13's and 5.38's.
you sure you have stock 4.88's? I have the mojave and I have 4.10 gears. My wife has a JL rubicon with the extreme recon package and she has stock 4.56's.
Beads have been hit/miss for us and we always use em if traditional weights/tape weights aren't feasible, as in an outer aftermarket dually wheel. We balance tires like these with tape weights and have always had great success. Thanks for 'weighing' in on this though 😁. Appreciate the feedback!
How is your towing? I have a 40s on 4:10 gears set up on a 2021 gladiator rubicon. 5:13 would bring me back to basically stock but I feel 5:38 would compensate for tire weight and being even able to tow with 40s.
"OBS Ford window regulator install" - No installation shown "I show you how I chose to secure this new regulator to the door using rivnuts" - No you don't
Semper Fi….Love your setup….retired from the Corps in 2014….looking to get a setup similar to yours over the course of the next couple of years. Did you consider a F450 vs the F350?
Congratulations and thanks Marine! On the F450 thing the only real benefit would have been the turning radius IMO. Rear axle weight rating was literally the same on the sticker and with plenty of tire on the F350 to be 'in spec' the extra cost of the 450 to buy/insure/license kind of Drove me to the 1 ton. Also the 19.5 tires retain horrible ride quality.... but that turning radius though! Cheers to ya, and come say howdy if you're ever up in my AO.
@@DieselPros thanks for the invite and I just might take you up on it someday! With hauling truck campers I like the idea of the 3.55 gear ratio on the 350 vs the 4.30 on the 450 as well. I too with Ford still offered the wide turn front axel on the 350s as well but I think that went out as an option in 2017. A truck camper hauling a jeep (or sxs) is the perfect setup I think…where in Big Sky country are you located? From your video it looked beautiful.
Hey I’ve got a 94NAS D90 manual shift that I swapped the R2.8 into. Love the torque but having challenges with radiator and intercooler. What brand do you know holds up to the heat/pressure of the R2.8L (and fits) into the D90?
I am curious as to what radiator and intercooler you ended up putting into it that you are having troubles with? What area of the country do you live in and what type of driving is giving you fits?
@@qfw181 we ended up installing an Axis cooling package w/AC and it worked great. On a 90 degree day it still didn't like sustained RPM's over 2600 w/AC on but their cooling package is top notch.
I was going to go with this lift, which is how I came across your video. Truck looks awesome! Did you only have to trim the bumper and valance? Or did you have to do something to the cab, behind the tire too? Do you guys sell this wheel and tire combo as well as the Cognito lift?
That was a long while ago Steve, but I'd bet we had to do a fair bit behind the cab. Stick with a more conservative offset wheel and it'll be much easier to fit the tires. 9" wide with a zero offset or (preferably) a +18 and life will be better. Thanks for checking in, and if you're in the area stop by and say hi 👍🏻
had a leveling kit, worst mistake ever, destroyed the ride feel, destroyed the steering comfort. also when i loaded my bed it sat squated in the back and destroyed the driveability. so if you are using your truck like a truck and hauling loads NEVER level kit it.
