I am a Vintage 4x4 vehicle enthusiast. It all started with restoring a 1945 Ford GPW WWII Jeep as a father/son project in 2004. Since that first Flat Fender Jeep I've restored other WWII Military Jeeps, WWII Military Dodge trucks, and Flat Fender era Civilian Jeeps of the 40s and 50s. This Hobby has led me to meet great people with similar interests from across the country and the world. This Hobby has also lead me on amazing trips off road and on road across the USA and Europe. A freind of mine machined a small GM D44 spindle to fit a Dana 30 hub. We bolted the hub onto the axle housing flange to make a full floating axle. Then I measured up and ordered the Dutchman flanged axles. So it we pieced it together.
Most of my Jeeps I use Crown stock style leaf springs. I do splurge on Bilstein shocks though. I’ve found they make a big difference in the comfort of the ride especially off road!
I have just learned about these m29 weasels. I had always wanted a WW2 Ford GPW. However, after learning about these, I have fallen in love with these. I would love to get my hands on a weasel and fix it up.
Very nice condition weasel, The French tracks are horrid. When I bought mine the tracks did not look all that bad , however setting as long as it had when we got it running the 40 pitch chains imbedded in the rubber pads literally fell apart. I had to totally rebuild the track.
This was last years winter project that I paused once spring hit but I'm back on it now and should complete it shortly. I will do a walk around video of the project once I'm complete.
@EJOWest I always wondered about that. I doubt that the transfer case has a differential like an old 4x4 pickup. Does it get bound up on hard surface roads?
Excluding the paint...that truck is really in nice shape! Get it running, check it out mechanically, and buy a gallon of paint stripper. That will be an easy, fun and notable restoration, due to the rarity of the M-H Conversion. Good Luck, and please keep us posted. I personally can't wait!
This is so fantastic world War two Studebaker track vehicle I dig it! I saw you wearing a heating and cooling shirt so I have a question. You may know or not this pass summer of 2023 my home air conditioner sprang a leak and the technician said it needed a few ounces of refrigerate and some refrigerate oil and I question him on the refrigerate oil and he said it leak out along with refrigerate gas he would not tell me how he knew how much oil leak out is there a testing procedure to check oil amount? It's a scroll compressor but no sight glass on system just a filter inside compressor area of out side unit can you help or was they tring to get more money?
I’ve wheeled up in that area back in the 80’s with the Grass Valley 4 Wheelers. Now that I’m more into prospecting and metal detecting I’ve always wanted to get back up to that area.
Back in the 80’s we used the trail out of Gold Valley up to Snake Lake. The trail going down was so dangerous the forest service wouldn’t allow anyone to use it. They wouldn’t even allow our local club to adopt it. Obviously someone has gotten this trail in shape.
