I thought land spouts like water spouts formed not from the updraft to the ground but the opposite from the ground up. The opposite of supercellular spawned tornadoes. Thanks for sharing.
You are correct in that they do form from the ground up. However, such conditions do require thunderstorms. Rather than supercellular tornadoes, landspouts don’t need a mesocyclone, but are rather dependent on atmospheric instability, frontal interactions and a trigger such as a thunderstorm updraft. Landspouts are more a result of thunderstorms rather than a product like regular tornadoes.
We did see a short lived ground circulation around that area very early in the storm’s lifespan. However, it was so brief that I was unable to catch it on video.
That was an awesome local chase for me! I live in Fort Collins and was torn between going out near Wray or staying close. I ended up making a video of that same storm, pretty good day!
Looks like a flanking line tornado on the far left at 4:01, second structure looks to be a wall cloud with inflow tail on the right side and a small cone tornado on the left
Not anymore. A friend of mine, Ryan Shepard, purchased it a few years ago from him and has renewed it. This is the first year it is operational (mostly, it broke down a few times on our storm chases on June 24-26.) You can learn more at live storm chasers.
