Hi, I'm Johannes, and this is my channel about various music things, that I do and I'm interested in. This channel is done by myself in my spare time. So don't expect too many frequent uploads or too much interaction because even if I like getting in touch with people, my normal job doesn't allow for too much creative time, unfortunately. Still no reason to complain, it puts enough bread on the table.
This channel was called the Empty Chord Music since many years ago since reading a Terry Pratchett book about "music with rocks in" and Death playing the ultimate "Empty" Chord. You also see this channel is old and not very well kept. I'm aware of that. But also I don't earn a single cent through RU-vid. So it's always been a fun project mainly for myself and a few friends to share videos and enjoy some music conversation. If you also like what you see here you're very welcome to enjoy, comment, share, subscribe and be disappointed I don't post every week...
Question: Is there any possibility in you putting a Cd out with this type of music along with your guitar playing? What do you call your music, Young man? You remind me of Greg Howe to an extent. June 2, 2024. Sunday USA.
Thanks for your comment! I guess the style is still a Synthwave derivate, maybe I'd call it "Guitar Synthwave" for lack of a better term. Releasing a CD with the material in its current form is not going to happen. I'm not holding the copyrights / licenses to the original tracks I'm improvising over. So I'd have to write all material myself. And I can't see myself pulling off a project of that magnitude within a reasonable timeframe. Tempting challenge, though!
I think Shawn Lane was light years ahead of anything I'll ever be able to accomplish on guitar in this life (and probably the next as well), so - that's quite a massive compliment! Thank you very much!
@@EmptyChordMusic I don’t disagree nothing against you! Haha one of my favorites and you could just tell he hit every note intentionally. Some of his stuff truly brings me to tears haha
@@TylerSmithMusic1 I love that he's not just technical and blazingly fast, but always plays tasteful, with beautiful melodies and harmonies. Nothing seems to be filler or just for show. I find it very humbling to listen to him.
VG Johannes
Your the best lead player bro, I like your impro, it adds beauty to the track. Please do for other electronic musics like this one. May I suggest Daydream by Narvent
Thanks a lot for your comment. I'm always trying to add something beautiful or interesting to a track, and it makes me happy if it seems to work out! I'll check out your suggestion! Cheers!
LG Bert
Hey, I just found your channel and this video and must say awesome stuff! I'm beginner player so I was wondering if you have any tips on how to learn to imporv like this? Are you playing notes from the pentatonic scale?
Hi, glad you came by! And thanks a lot for the compliments! Well, what helped me a lot is listening to a lot of different music over the years, and then try mimic or emulate some bits on guitar. Learning scales (pentatonic scales, but also a the various major and minor scales) helps a lot, and then I guess it's more or less jumping in, recording yourself and see what happens. Have fun playing!
Hi Paula, good afternoon from across the Atlantic! Yes, now you mention it, I think this one really got a few sprinkles of Irish folk harmonies. Glad you like it 😊
He gives it a new flavor with his playing. I am going to save this! Best of luck in playing guitar. The Universe chose you to play guitar, young man. April 2024. USA
hi I do not wish to seem harsh because I enjoy your music and I like your playing, but in this video you have some mistakes and it feels like you are lost in many sections and maybe it would be better if you practice the notes/scales that the song uses on the different chords before you decide to press record...I think that this is a more complex song with interesting changes and so it's hard to do it in one go with improv, keep up the playing I did subscribe. I would even be happy if you decide to do a video on one of my songs...lookup synthwave "Vosto"
No harm done! Maybe it's not really clear what I mean by improvisation? For me it really is about jumping in without knowing the original song. When I record these tracks, I've maybe listened to a few seconds of the original and think "I'll give it a try and see what happens". So there are always places where I'm caught by surprise, which results in errors. That's the whole purpose for me - no practice, just hop in, no place to hide. If I take 2-3 more takes, things will probably start to be more coherent, yes. So thanks for taking the time for your feedback and sorry for the lack of refinement!
Hi Stefan! Dankeschön!! Ja, das Set ist zwar unpraktisch zu transportieren ohne Roadies und braucht ne eigene Postleitzahl, aber ich wollte sowas immer mal haben! Guten Start in den Tag! Johannes
