This is my channel dedicated more or less to my model building hobby and related topics. I started modeling as a kid, like most guys, but drifted away in my teens. Came back to it as an adult in the early '90's and started by building several aircraft related to Desert Storm. Then in the late 90's I found Finescale Modeler magazine; learned how to properly build a model and about the same time purpose-built a room in my basement for my hobby. Been puttering away down here ever since. Hope you find my channel interesting. - John
Firstly...all your models displayed look magnificent, but don't give up up on Foil Finishes too easily. Even though flawed, the Constellation looks fantastic and considering it was your first attempt at a difficult technique and using a product not suited to covering aircraft, it is very encouraging result 👍 Normal Kitchen foil and " Micro Scale " Foil Adhesive is a better option for covering 1/72nd scale aircraft than BMF ( There are thicker foils available which are better for larger scale aircraft : 1/48, 1/32, 1/24 etc. that are much more forgiving in terms of creases and blemishes as the can be burnished or sanded out ). BMF is great product for small chrome/metal areas on car models, which I think it is commonly used for. In my limited experience with BMF I have found that the pre applied adhesive is too aggressive. Just removing the foil from the backing paper puts the foil under tension, hence the tendency for the foil to want to curl up once removed from the backing paper and increasing the difficulty of application over larger complex surfaces. Micro Scale Foil Adhesive gives you the freedom to place an unstressed piece of foil over the area/panel you want to cover, burnish the foil lightly to outline the area you wish to foil, before applying glue only to the area within the outline while leaving the outer areas free of glue allowing much easier handling of the piece. After burnishing the piece of foil to the chosen panel it's then just a matter of trimming the piece to the outline of the panel with a sharp blade. Yes, the foiling process can be tedious , but no paint, no matter how good it is ( and there are some very good Metallic paints out there ) can match the look, handling durability and authenticity of real metal. 🍻
Thanks for the kind words and info. I agree nothing looks as good as actual metal, ie., foil. Here and there I still use it, but it's a trade off between time/effort and results and I all too often take the easy way out. Thanks for the sub as well. 😀
Interesting build, the model certainly looks very nice finishedl. I have built two similar kits, a Maisto 1/24 Mustang and a Welly 1/24 Jaguar XK. Both were different in construction and detail from each other and this kit. I''d say this Bburago maybe looks better for external detail. It's a good option if you can't find a plastic Kit for a particular vehicle as they often come up very cheap secondhand.
Great haul, I hoped to do the same in Croatia some years ago but never found a model shop. Spoilt for choice in that model shop for sure, I would've grabbed that MV Agusta as I have all the others. All those 1/9 Italeri are Protar kits originally, that Alfa Romeo Spider can also be built from an old 1/24 Protar kit that Italeri have released again this year. Keep your eyes peeled🥸
Nice purchases, I would have picked up a Vespa and Fiat 500 model as well. Thanks for keeping me in mind. Try some WWII Italian armor kits🙂 from Italeri.
John I love the picture of the awesome trip and very cool models and italeri make big 1/12 scale models of the Fiat 500 & Abarth and they also make the 1/12 Lancia Delta rally car and I have all of those kits if you want to see pictures of anything let me know ❤😊
Very nice holiday spot, looks like you made the most of it for sure. That bike at 1.32 is a Yamaha XV535, the bigger Harley lookalike at 1.57 is Kawasaki VN1500, I had the baby brother VN800 Drifter. Shame these don't have plastic model replicas to build.😁
Yep, that’s Italy 🇮🇹. Especially the old Piaggo Ape are cool. Almost all Mediterranean countries look at cars as means of transportation. Not something to show off with. Nice footage 💥👍💥
While true, I'd did notice quite a few gorgeous, and well cared for higher end cars like Mercedes, Land Rovers, Mazzaratti, and BMW's, as well as some really nice motorcycles.
Thanks for sharing footage of your Italy trip, hope you had loads of fun. I remember my trip many years ago and lots of Fiat 500 (original design) and Vespas.
Hi John, the Honda turned out absolutely fantastic, your dedication to the build was inspiring, as I have a Yamaha to build, hopefully in the next couple of months, do you use rattle cans or a airbrush? Best regards from Australia, Les
HibJohn, that Harley build and colour scheme yurned out absolutely outstanding, now being a 1200cc it is a 'old' bike, my dream would be to have a ex US Police Harley, best regards from Australia, Les
Great painted figure of a US Paratrooper, John. Convincing result. The figures from Dynamo are very detailed and also available in my small scale. In every case a cool figure which will look nice in a showcase. Best wishes, Joachim
