Yes, we all know "India" is offensive because it is based on Columbus' mistake.. But many people use the term "Native Americans." "America" was used to honor Amerigo Vespucci, a fellow explorer of Columbus. He owned household slaves and bequeathed them to his wife. Much less offensive.

I love the Warruor Dance but I had never seen the Horse Dance! The Bear Dance would be fun with the shoving, and same for the Buffalo Dance. The Beaver Dance us hilarious because they are trying to hunt the "beaver" that is being pulled on a cord between two other dancers

You can not out date someone's Lineage/Heritage! The Indigenous American Indians reclassified to Colored/Negroes are still here. there were no "Natives" (No nothing party) in the South/The Carolines and Considering the "Natives' are NOT Indians it is a good strategy to rename the Museum.

In Kentucky, the State Police keep unsolved cases on their website for the public to help solve, even after the case is cold. Hopefully, North Carolina has something similar, so the families know that it is not just forgotten records on a self.

Any history on who put the early hymns into the Cherokee language? I've heard one man who at least helped the process was Rev. Armory Nelson Chamberlain.

My adopted mother, Maria Pearson, Yankton, initiated NAGPRA from the State of Iowa in 1990. My artwork on reclaiming the human story was influenced greatly by her passion with repatriation. I will be moving to North Carolina and would enjoy meeting you all and maybe brainstorm about this topic and artwork possibilities for the artists if interested. Really support the work you are doing. Marcia K Moore

26 minutes into this video and I’m already crying. As an Appalachian white woman who’s ancestors have lived here long enough to play a part in yours not being here, it makes me physically hurt. I feel it on a visceral level. And to be honest, I think I feel it at this level because I’ve watched the mountain heritage my ancestors taught me die off. Except it’s not lost. It’s just not practiced anymore. It lives, recorded in museums and books by the thousands. I hurt for you knowing it was taken from you. I hurt even more seeing it become what it is today. A steaming pile of trash, technology, extreme poverty living in a mess of a white man politica with no connection with the earth. I can only wish my ancestors (in whatever plane of existence they may be in) live with the regret of any part they played in destroying entire cultures until the last of your people hurt. Good work folks. Strong work. The kind of work that keeps a culture alive and thriving. Time to finish this video.

Thanks Nico and the museum for sharing indigenous wisdom and culture. Relationship with our food and environment is at the center. I'm excited to try out this recipe and have new appreciation for corn, juniper berries, sumac and other gifts from Creator.
