Hi, Welcome to my channel. I'm Jill. I’m a writer, gardener, artist, illustrator, cook, gardener, small business owner. I’m restoring the garden of my 17th century cottage back to a traditional english cottage garden. So please subscribe if you think that is something you would be interested in. Good afternoon i love roses very much i have a couple of roses i love to replant them from cutting and share them with friends i am going to try it the way you do it i like watching how you care for your garden thanks for your inspiration I appreciate you very much bye
I use a regular compost which I loosen with sand for good drainage and to allow the fine roots to push through. I think I have a video demonstration on my sowing technique.
Just dealt with the exact same thing. I had probably 40 beautiful plants growing in the polytunnel & then almost overnight they were covered in rust. To be fair, the ones I had planted out about a month ago were infected as well. I trimmed back what I could & dumped the rest. We’ll see how it goes. 🤞🤞🤞
Good luck. I see loads of hollyhocks around here and many have rust but when there’s enough flowering together in a clump, you really don’t notice the rust because the flowers themselves are so impactful. So let me know how yours go. All mine had rust in the end but the ones I kept flowered great anyway,
Aluminium is one of the easiest recyclable materials, so as long as we are good at recycling when it's used and broken, most of the "new" aluminium we buy is actually recycled, and no mining is involved. In some areas recycling centres pay you for the aluminium you bring.
You may have lost viewers, but you've just gained a subscriber! I've been spending the last two hours trying to find a video, where someone actually DID it, instead of just talking about it (one person went on and on, rambling for 45 minutes, and in the end... Nothing! -She did show how to sow them, though).
Waw only just found your brilliant channel, I’m hooked! This is now mid September can I sew salad now or do I have to wait till the spring and what lettuce seeds do you recommend please 🥬🥬💚💚💚Plus what compost do you suggest. I had a garden yeeeeaaarrrsss ago and a permanent gardener - things have changed big time but I’m much happier 💗💗
You can definitely sow salad now. Just look for salad leaves that are happier in cool seasons. You often see them as winter salad mixes. Good luck. So glad you found me.
Re compost, anything that’s nutritious. Not those awful dry mixes you get from the big brands. Also make sure it has good drainage. i add sand. I’m pretty sure I have covered it in some of my seed starting videos.
1st of all, I appreciate to share your valuable info. and experience regarding plastic pots, It's very difficult to make videos and upload it ( At least, for me ). But I wanna criticise and ask you till the end. 2nd issue, Why did you do the same task repeatedly such as the most people from the 3rd world to make their clips longer.3rd and the last one, Why do you wanna sow seeds in small pots then transfer to bigger ones/ in yard, (when the climate is ok and you are doing at home for yourself not selling) because all people intend to spend less budget and time? By the way, Thank you very much. Wish you best
Sweet williams are really easy and satisfying. When the flowers have gone over you see the seed pods on the head. When the seed pods are mostly open, clip the whole head off and tip it into your container. I will even go through each seed pod separately to make sure I've got them all. They're little black seeds. Very easy to harvest.
Thank you for this helpful video. I have just started to collect my garden seeds. How long do the seeds last after being collected? Best wishes from Lottie in Suffolk.
If they are stored nice and dry they will last at least a couple of years. I would put them somewhere darkish. No direct sunlight especially if you are storing them in jars.
😂😂 my dining room is full of things and seeds Jill so it’s great you are too. I use paper plates so I can write the details on them and recycle the plates as needed. Have a marvellous day, Ali 🥵🌞🇨🇦
It's super satisfying. It saves such a lot of money too. I used to wonder if it was worth it but one day I did the sums and though yup, it's deffo worth it. 🇬🇧🇨🇦🌼🌸🌻
Thanks for helping the little critters. I always say they are where they are supposed to be, we are the disturbance. I am still using your trays for seed collecting as well!! Not so many seeds as you you though! Such a treat to see you back.🎉
I have been meaning to do a video for over a week but I lost my voice. It’s only just starting to come back now and it’s still quite weak. Think I had some pesky covid variant. Sorry about that but thanks for checking in on me. 🇨🇦🇬🇧🌻
Ive only got one rose. It’s a DA, Gertrude Jeykll bought directly from them. ive not had roses before. It’s riddled with black spot. Not sure how to explain this if you say it’s been brought in, but from where? I havent bought anything since so i can only assume it had it when i bought it.
Unfortunately it can already be in your garden when you bring the rose in. I have found treatment (organic… see my blackspot video) can be effective but it must be done every year.
Thank you. Hi, over there in Atlanta Georgia! I always think about Georgia when I think about growing peaches. They’re not easy to grow here but I’m going to give it a go!.
I use the rectangular plastic fruit cartons you have left over from fruit, ok it’s plastic but I’m not going out to buy anything extra for the purpose so it’s reusing something. Also aluminium takes a great deal of energy to produce so it’s one of the least environmental materials to use. What do you use for potting up the seedlings? I’m always running out of small plastic pots and don’t want to buy them, I do use yoghurt pots and cream cartons but would be interested in any other ideas.
Do you have any pictures of what the seed pods look like? This my first year growing bells of Ireland, and i have 3 plants, rabbits ate the rest. I would love to see what the seed pod look like.
I thought I added some in the video. they’re the bells. they dry up and go all brown and like a spider web and in the base are these little seeds almost like pyramids.
@@JillBretherton Maybe i missed it, or just didnt recognize. Never saw one, this my first time growing them. Im gonna leave some so i can get some seed. Thanks for the videy
Me too. It’s been hard juggling it all and not explaining it so that’s why I decided to come clean but there’s always a fear you jinx things by speaking too soon. So fingers crossed…
