Fabulous technique and very harmonious - but although Dorothy could swing, she seldom did it. And indeed, here again, it's too complicated to be really "swingin' ".
Ignored, overlooked, avoided, having fought for what we all want, recognition, fair pay, politeness, Dorothy Donegan emerged here,. c. 70years old, as a superior beautiful jazz pianist, who may well have got a smile from Tatum, Ellington, Liszt, Chopin, anyone surperior in Knowing the class and standard.

Good god. I didn't think anything could compare to Oscar Peterson, "Blues Etude," with Joe Pass and NHOP. My mistake. I just became aware of Dorothy Donegan two days ago ... and have been listening to jazz for almost 50 years. Damn. Just damn.
She and the other world class pianists, how can they so completely own and control their instrument? the brain muscle connection must be extraordinary. It will be great to be able to actually map that structure some day.
Unbelievable. So like Tatum (And I know he was a mentor to DD) What a talented lady. I do prefer this to her more showy performances but the exceptional ability is undeniable in either
