Hi John. Is your garage floor sloped ? I’m in the process of building mine in the garage. My floor has a slope down towards the hitting mat. I’m thinking of just leveling off my hitting mat and leaving the slope in front of the screen. If anything it will help the ball roll back to me . What are your thoughts on garage floor slope ?
Mine is slightly sloped. The slope up to the screen from where you strike your ball is mostly irrelevant. The slope down from your ball to the launch monitor(LM) is important. Especially if you are using a LM that sits 6.5 feet plus behind your ball like the Garmin, Rapsodo, and Flightscope. Just make sure that the LM is vertically level to the ball. In the case of the Skytrak, Flightscope, Trackman, Bushnell and other side resting LM's they will have different methods of leveling their product, but also important.
Hey John. I have watched a lot of your videos on the R10 and GSPRO. They were very helpful to me. Thanks. I spent a lot of time and effort getting putting working. But never reliable, it changed every time I turned it on. So I made the decision to buy a Skytrak Plus. To my amazement the same time as you. Now after a lot of fiddling I have GSPRO working on Skytrak. And to be honest I wish it was simpler to just turn things on and play. So I am looking forward to your videos on game play with the Skytrak and compare to what you had with GSPRO it might help with my future subscriptions. Thanks
I'm so happy my videos have been helpful for you! Congrats on the new Skytrak+! I still like the Garmin but I will NEVER try to putt with it using another unsupported source. I love using it with GSPro on autoputt and will continue to. The only issue with the Garmin is short chipping but I get through it. I'm extremely impressed with the new Skytrak on course software. I will never try to connect it to GSPro. I'm really looking forward to future course releases by Skytrak. To drop 30 courses at launch is impressive. I was hopeful that Skytrak would be able to get E6 Apex eventually but the course play launch could be a hint that they won't be getting it any time soon. Although E6 has not released any courses yet with Apex. It looks incredible though. In the mean time I'm happy with the device and the amazing new course play software. I have at least 15 video ideas that I will unleash in the next 3 months. Cheers!
Wow...E6 Apex just added Skytrak, Garmin, and FlightScope to their launch monitor list! Just after I talked about it...it happens a day later. Very exciting. I guess the courses are coming this fall.
John I've watched a lot of videos. And I have not seen anyone say exactly how the Garmin R10 is setup using a vertical and horizontal laser to project onto the impact screen. I have a Sig10 enclosure just like your Sig8. Did you use a laser to get the Garmin to read wright. The sigs have the Velcro padding that comes up about 4 or so inches until the projected image is on the screen at the bottom. Do you level your garm to be just the height of your driving mat? Or is it at the bottom of the screen? Thanks in advance for any reply. Sorry it was so long.
I used alignment sticks and a level and marked the outline on the floor for placement. I have a strip mat that is the same 2 inch height as my hitting mat. The Garmin R10 is doppler radar. It does not care about where the screen height vertical projection is. Just the horizontal center. You could project your image 2 feet above the Garmin and the software will still give you the same ball flight, height, spin etc. It reads from the position it is struck from. Just make sure the monitor is vertically level and horizontally square. Joe Lagowski and David Maxfield have good leveling videos. I would check those out!
Thanks for the review. I got one question, where and how do you attach the rain hood? I can‘t see any buttons on the bag outside and can‘t find anything about it… Greetings from Germany!
I found the perfect golf tee for me after trying them all. You ever hear of K2 golf tees? Specifically designed for sim golf. I’ve had them for many many months now and no issues with them at all. Their durability is God tier. Think I paid 70 for the set of tees and bean bag with tethers. I have Skytrak+ sim setup in my garage. I cannot get enough of golf honestly lol. I just bought a durable delta golf hitting net as I’ve blasted through two golf nets already. Maybe one day I’ll get an impact screen and go that route. Great video, just subbed to your channel!🫡
Thanks for watching and for the insightful comment! I have not heard of the K2 tees but I promise to check them out. I'm obsessed with golf as well. I just got the Skytrak+ a few days ago. So far so good except for the charging. It is charging at the rate of 2% per hour. Hopefully I figure it out. I'm probably going to leave it pluged in during sim sessions going forward because it is otherwise a GAME CHANGER! I noticed some activity from another LM company in respose to the Skytrak courses release that I ALMOST bought. Thanks so much for subscribing and for contributing to the golf sim discussion. Cheers!
@@Break100Golf I’ve noticed the Skytrak+ club head speeds are off. On course I can hit my 9 iron 130 yards plus. On the skytrak I’m lucky to go 120 yards… something is definitely off with the Skytrak+. Club head speeds and the slice and draws are just off. It’s fairly newer so a lot of bugs need fixing… I rarely even play sim rounds on it. I just use the range for hours on end at night lol. So yes the K2 golf tees you can watch videos about them on RU-vid. Well worth the price. Only issue I thunk of after I wrote you the message is, the feathers get tangled up too much if you use more than one tee. I have driver, hybrid, and iron tee setup on the beanbag. Definitely check em out and let me know how you like them.
@@Break100Golf as far as the charging issue with your Skytrak+, maybe contact Skytrak help team and see if it’s a defect. I mean if you’re spending 3 grand, that shouldn’t be happening… mine charges fine, without being plugged in on a full charge I can get at least four hours in one session.
Thanks for watching and commenting! I can't attest 100% to it's accuracy because I've only tested it once. I just got it...but I did have accurate numbers from the Skytrak+ with my irons in that session. I had one swing that was questionable but that can happen. I don't know yet for sure on the driver as I have not hit more than 5 balls, but it seemed pretty normal for me. It seemed normal compared to past results with other LM's. Hopefully I can get the results I'm used too hitting more balls with a full power swing next session. I have used Trackman, Foresight, Garmin, and now Skytrak+. They all seem to be pretty close but my swing speed was slightly faster on the Foresight GC Quad. I will be doing tons of videos testing the Skytrak+ over the next few months so stay tuned! Hopefullly I get accurate numbers.
I sent Skytrak a message about it. It continued charging slow until it got to 61%, but from there it charged 5 times faster. I ran it down to 90% just doing a screen recording without any golf sim. After I plugged it back in it charged to 100% in less than an hour. It seems like it may be ok. I'm not going to run it down as far as I did again. I got the "Charge now" message at 10% charge left. I'm not doing that again. That may have caused the issue. I'm just going to leave it plugged in during sim sessions to help slow the charge drop.
I’ve been a long time user of Garmin products. From long ago GPS devices to more recently multi-sport watches. A few things I’ve learned about Garmin: 1) battery life claims are almost always lower than real life. The R10 has a claimed 10 hour charge life. I’ve never gone less than 30%, after approximately 7 hours of use. So, spot on to the 10 hour battery life. 2) Garmin firmware updates are pretty hectic after the initial product release, but settles down after awhile. It wasn’t unusual for my watches to get 2-3 updates within the first year, then relatively nothing for years. Until … the replacement device is released. Which leads to … 3) Garmin supports older units with updates from newer units until the old unit can no longer support the update (either thru lack of internet space or limits to the device). Do not be surprised when Garmin release the “R11?” and at that time finally releases a new firmware for the R10. Garmin supports the investment device owners have made in their devices. 4) Garmins history with radar goes back a number of years to the Varia bike radar, an amazing device that hangs off the rear of your bike and warns of approaching vehicles, the distance and number of cars approaching. So they’ve been “radar-ing” a long time. And the improvements incorporated into the Varia over the years makes me comfortable saying Garmin is in golf LMs for the long haul. Thanks for some great content concerning the R10. I’ve watched this and prior videos on the device and it helped me immensely in making the decision to get one myself.
Thanks so much for this awesome breakdown and for watching! My Garmin R10 has been very reliable. People seem to still be interested in the device so I will continue to make content with the R10. I would like to see them "officially" integrate with GSPro or come up with a subscription package with TGC 2019. In the end they will likely come out with an R11 type monitor which would need to have a camera integrated and be able to putt in order for most people to consider it. The camera at least for sure! In the mean time I will still use it along with my new Skytrak. Lot's to come with that!!! Cheers!
Thanks! My mind is racing about the potential with Skytrak! I can easily do 15 videos right now. It is going to change everything for me and Break 100 Golf! Cheers!
Do people have to tweak their elevation and humidity settings to get more accurate data ? I use the Garmin app, and the awesome golf app and I seem to need to set GSPRO elevation to 4000ft to get accurate ball flight distances…
I have seen quite a few people tweek the elevation setting. You could also try going back and forth with the GSPro and the Garmin algorithm which you can change in the settings or try RCT balls
@@Break100GolfThankyou ! I’m using the metal tape hack so I’m hoping it’s getting enough spin data…. RCT balls are just a bit much for me to swallow:-)
Hey there!..yes it's open API. There is only one GSPro. It will work with the R10 if it's connected properly. I have a newer version of the R10 Bluetooth connector video if you want to check it out!!!
Fantastic video!! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 thanks for the great information! I noticed that it looks like some of the holes for clubs are bigger than others. Do you think you could fit 2 clubs in some of the bigger holes???
Awesome video lots of really really good information for future reference. Could you maybe get rid of the background music music… there’s nothing necessarily wrong with it. It’s just distracting from what you’re saying.
Thanks for watching and commenting. There is a reason for the background music. It's entirely necessary unfortunately. I may not have lowered the level on that track for the video for this one.
@@Break100Golf no worries- I just like your videos and found that one hard to concentrate on in some parts. Would rather just listen to you narrating and commenting.
Hey. Liked this video on gs pro settings. I’ve done the on course practice to hit tee shots on my course repeatedly. But can you go from hole to hole to practice every tee shot? I haven’t figure that out
You can do it. Go to "practice, then "On course practice", select the holes you want to play, and go into the course, then click the golf flag symbol in the upper left and select each hole. You can also click on the ball logo and place the ball anywhere on the course by clicking the ball then clicking on the area of the mini map. Thanks for watching!
Hey John. Couldn’t agree more with all your thoughts on the R10. Every time I think I found a reason to move on it ends up it’s something I’m doing wrong with my swing or sim setup. Also, as a fan of the channel am I causing interference? 😊 Keep up the great work!
Hey man, I ended up going in on the Garmin r10 with gspro using your tutorials. I have gspro streaming using moonlight to my laptop out by my net. Your channel really helped me out - thank you!
Everything worked perfectly until I launched GS Pro. The R10 was immediately disconnected from my computer. It would not reconnect with the GS Pro App running. I closed GSP and then removed the R10 in my Bluetooth settings. I went through the process of reconnecting it but it would only connect for 2 or 3 seconds before it would disconnect. Any Ideas on how to correct this?
@@Break100Golf I changed the properties to administrator. I'm confused why it connected to my computer until I launched the GS Pro App. Now it will only connect for a few seconds and then disconnect. I have removed the device multiple times and I'm still having this problem. It will find it but fails to connect.
John great blog/ video. 100% agree on the key points. I have used professional indoor range launch monitors and remain unconvinced a camera based unit at £2,000 - £14,000 (UK) , A well thought out R10 sim room works fine, my golf buddy makes contract furniture so I got foam, fake leather for wall and ceiling panels and high impact fabric curtains ceiling impact baffles. Auto put is fine and keeps the flow / pace of game play. GS Pro is great, but ease of power up a tablet and awesome golf for for kids is great. Simple : )
Hi John, what's your connection setup, as in PC to IOS to Projector. Or PC direct to Projector and by the look of this video the PC is in the house and Sim is in the shed, do you use a WIFI signal booster. Thanks for the informative videos. Just got my R10 and looking for the best setup for my use.
I appreciate you watching and commenting! It's a garage setup PC direct to projector. Luckily I have a finished garage with heating and cooling options. Everything is in the garage
Hey John, great content. Im not Game PC savvy, have the R10, enclosure mat and all but need advise on PC or Laptop minimum to get GSPro going , thank you Sir
Great Vid! I too own the R10 and it works well. I use it with Awesome Golf and on the range, and you said it best. If you understand the data it offers it could potentially change your game, at least that’s my experience. The Mevo+ is a great option, but for me the R10 does very well right now. I hope you get yours soon✌🏽
Enjoyed this segment...I just purchased my Garmin and I'm in the process of cobbleing together my simulation setup . Purchased a used gamer cpu with a computer monitor. My space is limited, but I'm sure this setup will work minus the putting. I will be using Awesome golf.
Love the method of stating simple and upgrading over time. I think far too many folks look at the cost of high end sim setups and don’t think to make it a step by step process. I just started with an R10 and a Benq TH585 projector and for under $1500 am so happy with my setup.
Just built my indoor golf sim room. I put the money into the enclosure, projector and gaming pc. Went with the Garmin R10 to get me going. With the intent of going with an overhead launch monitor in the next 6-10 months (ie recovering from the intial purchase). So far, I'm very happy with the setup. John and his videos have been incredibly helpful in getting things setup. kudos @Break100Golf!!!!!
John This is a little off of subject. I have a Sig10 impact screen and enclosure. How many bungee's did you end up removing so the bounce back was minimized. Thanks for your help.
This is such an awesome video with all the honesty I needed to hear! I really want to get a simulator set up but I dont have the luxury of purchasing a 1000$+ sim and hearing your feedback on it was a big help! I think Im convinced to get it!
Have had my Garmin for around the same amount of time and agree with everything you said. It is such great little unit and for the price it is tough to beat. I went with it over the MLM2 because there is no subscription with the Garmin. But like you it has started to become very expensive unit lol. What starts very cheap with a net and phone quickly morphs into almost $10,000 setup with screen, flooring, computer, projector and all the other little extras that go into tuning a simple sim room into a professional looking setup. I recently got the GSpro subscription and am loving it with the Garmin. With the connector software it is so easy and quick to turn on and start playing GSpro. An overhead LM might be in my future one day but financially it will be a terrible decision because for 10X the cost of a Garmin R10 it will not be 10X better.
Valid points, well done. For my personal use I run GS Pro, I am totally fine. With RCT balls. My Hindi-cap went from 25 to 6.7 in 2 years! R10 does work : ) For my teenage children and my wife Awesome golf on the Android tablet, is great, simple auto-put flows the games. Both I use at the practice range also. Home Tee Hero I do use with the altitude raised to solely match my tagged golf club distances. Great for playing Tournament
I’ve used the garmin r10 for over 7 months now. It’s been working great so far. I don’t have any issues and my distances are very accurate. I play at zero elevation. I don’t use any RCT balls or stickers. With very short chips around the green, I hit the ball high. If you try to run it to the hole, it will shoot across the green. For now, I’ll stick with garmin r10. I use it with GSpro.
Which connector do you prefer to use? I'm using the Springbok connector at this time. I was using the Roxor connector up until I switched. The guy who is the developer of the Springbok connector is awesome to work with when reporting to him any issues. He just sent me the newest download for an updated version that has performed flawlessly.
