Welcome to Wargames On Toast! This is a channel dedicated to all things Warcry. Me and my son are looking to produce all kinds of content ranging from Battle Reports, to tactical breakdowns, to news. If you like plastic/resin/metal models stomping around awesome looking tables, then we might have something right up your alley.
I know this is late, but their unique reaction when it says bonus disengage action does your unit still lose an action that round? Or do they still get their 2 actions?
One hour video with a conclusion that warband might not be so very good, that is quite sad to hear to be honest. I am buying them anyways. What would you recommend if one would to expand from the starter box? From your other reviews I figured out some units from Coven and Untamed would be nice?
I love the overall aesthetic of these guys. Thinking of putting them into a disposessed list for cheap easy access to bullwork and they can add some needed damage.
Just a small correction: you keep calling Soror Tazat a he, but Soror is a title that implies "sister". Kinda like the Adepta Sororitas. So she's basically Sister Tazat.
Right here bud warcrier.net/docs/warbands/order/cities-of-sigmar-castelite-hosts/#brethren-of-the-bolt Warcrier is the best place for warcry rules. Even has a list builder.
What about running the soul shepherd, he generates wild dice like crazy once your fighters have been damaged. That could help with the third list which needs as many ability dice as you can get. Great video as always 👍
Soul Shepherd is really fun, but often it’s too expensive to drop a triple when you could use those dice to have a more immediate effect. Give it a go though. I’ve always enjoyed messing with the funky lad.
As interesting tech pieces I could see them work. The teleport in particular would handy for objective missions for sure! I believe the Shadestalker is also the cheapest net Order can ally, and there’s certainly power in having one in your team :)
I was teaching a new player the game last week and he tossed one of the Brethren in his list and I was kind of surprised by how much damage was their abilities can put out.
Divine Blessings was an optional system added in White Dwarf for matched play. You can find all the rules relating to them on Warcrier.net Shooting into combat is only possible if you have a ranged weapon with no minimum range (see Hexbane’s Pistol, or Bridget’s pistol as an example). In addition to needing weapon with no minimum range, you also need to be within 3” of the target you are trying to shoot. Hit those 2 criteria and you are good to go. That was a change brought in early into 2nd edition via games workshops FAQ. Hope that helps!
Future episodes will cut the music :) We also have an audio only - no music - version on Spotify. podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/wild-dice-podcast/episodes/State-Of-Warcrys-Meta---Summer-2024-e2mea9b
@GuntherCloneC I had Quiet Pock and Hexbane, to be fair. I could see it working with just a bunch of crossbow lads, but it would be a smidge more difficult I am sure. And it heavily relies on you rolling sixes. And never getting caught XD
I am sorry, you are correct, there are some teams that are weaker by themselves. However, there hopefully can be a winning combination of units and allies out there that will do decently (NOT VEXMOR). Also, edit cause I just thought of it: Hunters of Huanchi were once seen as the Shadowstalkers... Just saying!
Real happy that you are exploring doing a podcast series, especially with this great lineup. If I could offer one criticism though; the music is a bit distracting, especially with the microphone quality being all over the place (which I understand the latter can't necessarily be helped). Looking foward to future episodes though.
We are going to dial back or completely remove the music in future videos. We also have a music free version up as an audio only, which i setup today: open.spotify.com/episode/0KpmIbIr5XcIrctaxmhXhp?si=5OTyyRlLTWiGnFeEjvOkkQ Thanks for the feedback! It’s always a joy to work with these lads. Absolutely legends the lot of them.
This was a great idea and a fun watch. I think with shooting that this could be a neat area to possibly make aelves better. Since GW is so keen on keeping aelves being very squishy and hitting like noodles shooting could be a good area to work with aelves, it doesnt need to be super scary strong but a lot of time when thinking of aelves common themes are magic and bows so giving their ranged models some at least semi decent range profiles could help them since they dont really want stuff to get too close to them, they are fairly quick so can move about the board to try and stay safe, capture objectives and then GW gets to keep their squishy profiles. Maybe give them a decent amount of attacks so instead of having stupidly high strength and damage to nuke things off the board all the time they instead have plenty of attacks so there is a good chance of getting in a bunch of damage on you but they are not gonna be Vexmor from range and if you do want to make one or two very good then there are blessings.
Riverblades feel like they are missing a ranged profile to me. Built in throwing knives. 2 4 2 3 damage or something, right? Really push that keep away mobility focused style they thrive in. Something we didn’t discuss was why shooting is bad in Warcry. It boils down to the game doesn’t have any systems to effectively manage it. Cover in Warcry is basically it, and Cover as a passive mechanic doesn’t really help when you have S5/S6 murder profiles floating around. Throw in the Universal Reaction to MAYBE reduce a crit to a hit, and shooting becomes super scary if it gets out of hand. At least in melee you have more ways to interact to tilt it in your favour. Shooting by comparison is largely a solitaire experience in its current form which is antithetical to what a two player game should be. That last part is also why large warbands and wait spam is a largely negative experience
@@wargamesontoast Yeah it is a nightmare how tricky it is to balance. My only success with shooting so far has been with wizard bolt and that doesnt feel -too- bad because it is super swingy and tends to come with not the best strength, but missing on a wizard bolt feels bad. Riverblades are also a perfect example. Honestly first seeing their models I assumed they were coming with throwing knives built in and seeing they didnt was such a dissapointment. Even if it was a little bit of chip damage it would be better than nothing at times.
We are gunning for a monthly release for the podcast . Give the game time to spawn something new to talk about. Otherwise we would spiral out of control and you would see Girth shit talking OffMeta, me shit talking Girth, and Phylax laughing his ass off as everything explodes XD
Dislike Vexmor - IMO nothing should be insanely swingy like that. You could play a whole game and Vexmor might never hit...or he could kill almost anything in a single turn with a rampage. It's not that you can't tie him up for turns if you have multiple nets...or if he has bad luck, even 1 net. But the point it, it's just not a fun or interesting addition.
Vexmor is a very contentious model, and one that I both like and dislike. His raw stats and power offer more of a control piece than a true damage piece, since nobody is going to willingly mess with him. Funnily enough, when I’ve used Vexmor it’s been as a deterrent as opposed to a primary hitter. Having a secondary beatstick with mobility to complement Vex is usually a solid way to go. Unfortunately Chaos is in a bit of an odd place at the moment, and Vexmor offers a perfect bandage to slot into most lists - a bandage o suspect will get hit in a future FAQ!
@robertviscomi8199 they aren’t as swingy. They have weight of dice to reliably kill whatever they hit. And are substantially more expensive in all cases bar the Cannon, who is far easier to kill and can’t be blessed :p
@@wargamesontoast "Vexmor offers a perfect bandage to slot into most lists" I think this is what I dislike the most...it's showing up A LOT. Anything that makes many warbands look and perform the same--even if it just means every chaos warband is going to Vexmor for area-denial. It's a no-thought-bandage that GW has applied...it doesn't even make sense for their usual focus. their bottom line, unless for some reason they over-produced the model (which since its Underworlds, they didn't)
@@robertviscomi8199 Gutlord is the only one of those three that I've come up against. He's fine. He's not showing up in 75% of the Destruction warbands like Vexmor in Chaos
Some feedback: I can easily spend a couple of hours listening to some fellow nerds deep diving in Warcry, but I can't do it to that invasive videogame-from-the-eighties background music, sorry. I clicked through the video, confirmed that it was the same all the way through, and then gave up. I suggest removing the music, or replacing it with something more mellow. Does the rest of the community agree, or am I just an angry old fart (well, could be both 🙂 )
No reaction is great ! Too many teams have the same reactions , to me its just straight up bad , having a unique reaction is great .... Sometimes . But id rather have a cool unique faction ability instead , i also think that the team at warcry is trying to incorporate killteam-esque abilities into the game and im all for it!
It's like the Voltron of Warcry... the Warcry Avengers... The Justice League of Dice Chucking... they should never be in the same room at the same time for fear of a chaos attack... Will the world ever be the same?
Hey, love the channel. Wanted to run my list by everyone and see if I can get any pointers. I'll be bringing this to my casual games. Hexbane or Toll Callis Puck Grotbiter Ratspike Valius Errant with grand hammer Verentia or Axwold
This is a solid expansion of the base warband for sure. Errant with Grandhammer gives you all kinds of mobility tricks and is a rather handy in combat to boot. Pairing him with Vallius to get him into combat easier would be solid. I am a fan of both Verentia and Bridget, although I think I would go with Verentia for her utility. Being able to shut down pesky abilities can be game saving :)
You reduce damage from each dice to a minimum of 1, and that effects lasts until the end of the battle round. If Valius uses that ability he becomes almost unkillable in combat
Flameseekers S tier indeed! :D i was sold not only with how the model looking so beautiful, but when the abilities dropped, i really got into them. all able to use range, the free crit (so important for these guys), and that free move ability.
*Wildercorps not placed top tier* *glass shattering noise, armoire_enthusiast7 walk out music starts playing* *9 crossbows storm into the ring and proceed to 9-man tag-team suplex toast*
I've been waiting for someone to do a bespoke warbands only video, that also doesn't lean into stripping them back to basically become allies' caddies. Our group plays pretty pure bespoke warbands with minimal if any allies as that is how the game is meant to be in our eyes. Thanks for the content Toast.
Been really disappointed by my entry to warcry, buying the pyre and flood set. Every game has been a complete beatdown. I've been trying the wildercorps and they feel the same level of stress/difficulty, but actually winning a decent number of games (even if I'm rolling injuries for 9 of them most campaign games).
The Pyre and the Flood was a real dud unfortunately. Thankfully, Wildercorps are solid all around. They are squishy though, so you can’t really avoid the injuries in a campaign setting!
@@user-tn2qb1td1x dont think they have anything to do with the content of this video. :P the joke here is if we say shooting is good, people will play it. so wildercorp are "meh" lol
I dont know if there was a change to the model points, but this exact list costs more then 1k and im not sure what to do to maximize my point value for a Brayherd warband any tips?
This is an older video, so I think there’s been a typo in the list. I believe there should only be 2 Ungor raiders. That being said, if you wanted a solid jumping off point for Beasts Of Chaos and you want to stay in-faction, something like - Great Bray Shaman X2 Bullgor with Great Axe X2 Bestigor X2 Gor with Shield Centigor Wouldn’t be too bad. You have pulls with you leader, 2 heavy hitters with a fair few wounds, some decent midrange with your Bestigor and some solid Gor chaff. The centigor Gor can be dropped for another Bestigor OR 2 more Gor if you prefer, but his role is to be fast and take treasure, contest objectives, and generally be a pain in the butt. Hope that helps!
They are scattered in white dwarfs if I recall correctly. THANKFULLY, we have Warcrier.net which has every rule, stat, and fighter in the game ready to go and view!
One thing I have not seen mentionned Blessings are an Optionnal Rule. Like monsters, talk with the opponent about using them beforehand. They also, like monsters, might or might not be available in tournaments and events.
