I would propose another theory based on Nicks lecture on super volcanos. Could Mt. Stewart be the remnant of a volcano that formed south along the line of ghost super volcanos and then have been rotated north with the North American plate?
Just ran into this, great presentation. I'm sure? you've heard about Quake Lake, in Montana. The dead trees in LOTG reminded of the trees still standing in Quake Lake.
Thoroughly enjoying all these outreach lectures. You are an amazing communicator and the lecture was pitched perfectly to the audience. I came to you via Shawn Willsey and now spend a huge amount of my free time learning about the PNW … an area I only knew of from tv and books. I live in the uk and the geology of the PNW is amazingly complicated and diverse, absolutely fascinating. Thank you Nick…. Next it’s the A-Z of the Ice Age Floods…
I've been to Greece numerous times... my first trip in 2003 was to the gorgeous caldera of Santorini, and then twice to the volcanic island of Milos with a fantastic lava deposit at a beach area named Sarakiniko. Last active about 90,000 years ago. Santorini, still active. Do a search online and you'll see the photos. I'd post if I could but not here on RU-vid. Fantastic lecture(s), as always, Professor Zentner! I'm learning a lot from you in my retirement at age 60 here in geologically boring Florida. :) Thank you.
This is my favorite lecture of the series. It makes me wish that I could have been in attendance to ask all of the questions that I think of when I watch this lecture.
Does anyone know what a vertical resistant ledge is? I wasn't able to find a definition online. I am a geology student and must admit I never heard this term. Thank you!
Did he Mention how deep some of those canyons are off the coast? Drain the ocean series says they are Deeper than any grand canyon and you can stack three empire state buildings on top of each other. Is that true?
If you go there to gold pan for fun, be careful as almost everything is claimed. People get very sensitive about being in their claims. Plus, if you are looking to find gold in the creeks, it’s almost all been panned out. Look on the sides of the creeks walls if there are hills going into the creek Beautiful area to visit!
One of the best RU-vid presentations. I differ as to 41 instances. In that case, you must include the 1906 San Francisco quake and add up from there. I would opt for independent subduction plates and timelines. In any case, we are on the nose or overdue for one or both breaking. Would that be a 10 pointer, or higher? How much taller would be the tsunami wave or waves or oscillatory cancel/reinforce waves? Such turbidites would be larger than the norm, and evenly spread in time, despite local earthquakes at uncertain intervals along those coasts.
What I don't like are people who are talking about YELLOWSTONE and then show MT ST Helens! They are so stupid! They need to watch our NICK, don't they!
