I hope you got to go up in the helicopter too! I was just SSE of St. Helens in Skamania Co. when it blew. I was at Vacation Bible School, it was Hell Week - literally fire & brimstone, demons, you’re all gonna fry kinds of sermons - then it got cut short a day because the evacuation area expanded to where we were and it blew up while we waited for our parents in the parking lot. Kids were crying. It was the end of the world. I was ecstatic. It was awesome. We could hear the low rumble and feel it in our stomachs. I was loving every second of it. The pillar of ash towered over the evergreens. The 3 hour drive back to Seattle took 10 hours because the ash was so thick you could only see a foot or two in front of the car. That part was a nightmare, but the in-yo-face geology was incredible, unforgettable and awe inspiring.

I gasped out loud when he said it erupted 40 years ago. I’m in the UK I still remember the magnificent sunsets

I lived in Boise ID, 440 miles south east of the volcano, and had to get the ash off my car for days. I was a teen then. I guess I’m a geezer now. 😆

That glacier inside the crater looks incredible, all that jumbled ice melting and refreezing from the heat.

If I remember correctly, David Johnson was the only one who was saying that Mt. St. Helen's would "slip away ". Unfortunately he was ignored.

Dr. Zentner, I was a history major at Central in the late '70s. My buddies were in the business school but the Geology department pealed off a couple and though I found it interesting when they would excitedly point out strata in our hikes/climbs in the Yak Canyon, I really didn't get what was so exciting about studying rocks. After watching your lectures and YT friendly shorts, I totally get it. Maybe if you had been teaching my Geo 101 class, it would have been you, rather than Dan Ramsdell, who would have inspired my course of study (although that would have been a tall lift as Dr. Ramsdell was an exceptional teacher and individual).

I moved to Moses Lake when I was 16 back in 1995 for a few years and I absolutely fascinated by the Columbian Basin geology and history, the Sun Lakes and up all around there for miles each direction is just a amazing area to be in. I can't wait to make it back up there this summer. Since I know and understand the history and geology now (Thanks to Nicks lectures. Great videos BTW) it's gonna make the trip that much better!! Keep up the great work and keep the videos coming. Be safe out there!!

I have missed several episodes because your youtube greeting photo is always the same, my impression is Ive already watched this one. It would increase views if you used different photo and caption each episode.
