On the finish of the Stagg 18 you had mentioned getting a tingling barrel spice. You're talking about a spice that kind of tingles the surface of the tongue? Like a prickly spice? Is tingling spice always from barrel spice instead of rye spice?
@@BeThr_Best_Served_Neat_On_Ice It's almost like pop rocks That was was on the B22 and a lot of gts. It's unique to Stagg, I've never felt it on any other product
The legacy brands will cut back on producing new make but, its the small ndp's and dsp's that are gonna be disapearing in the next few years. This boom wasn't going to last forever.
People are literally going broke. When the necessities are starting to eat up the majority of your income, there is no buffer room for frivolities. I'm already basically out of the market at this point anyways because I've figured out what I like and I'm not terribly interested in anything new. I'll be sure to stock up on all these holy grail bottles when they're collecting dust on the shelf! I just picked up Old Forester 1910 and Statesman off the discount mark down shelf for $45 each because nobody is buying any of it. I really like OF 1910 and I haven't tried Statesman yet so the discounted price was a no brainer. There was Michter's single barrel rye for $40 on that same shelf! I spoke with one of the managers last week, my thoughts were confirmed. Nobody is picking up anything remotely expensive. Tons of Redwood Empire including cask strengths sitting behind the counter. Bardstown Discovery and others. If you can keep your powder dry there will be opportunities. It will take time though.
Russell's 15 is $250 MSRP. Stagg is roughly around $60 MSRP. I understand very few people see opportunities to buy allocated bottles at MSRP but look at that major price difference! It seems like even after all these crazy boom years the Stagg is still delivering on value for money.
It’s not a GTS killer, but you need to venture out from BT products, because there’s a lot of great stuff being put out from other places. It’s a solid pour, probably more in line with stagg jr, but based on your videos you don’t venture far out from mainstream bourbons.
@@JakeSelf I don't venture out of good bourbon* I have 4 roses limited RR RH RR15 Westward sb bp Jd12 Jd sbbpr Coy hill Several Parkers Heritage Etc Rarely do I find stuff that can hang at that level. Hence why I can't venture out much.
@@BourbonForageFishing maybe you should venture out more, because there’s a lot of great bourbon out there, unless basic is what you’re going for. I’m not going to defend Minnick, cause I think he’s a chode, but you should look up reviews from some well known tasters, a lot of people are giving smoke eye a lot of props.
I agree that premium is the current growth category. However, I feel like that is mostly driven by influencers. Basically, Companies need to give people something to talk about. To my palate, it doesn't feel any more special than previous years' special releases. I predict lots of new skus as distilleries try to keep their names afloat in whiskey social media.
@@graveshotx The new stuff I've tried has been quite good Russell's Rickhouse Russell 15 Jack 10 and 12 Makers Mark Cellar All have been pretty fantastic
@@BRANDON-JOE-whiskeyHounds When I first opened it I didn't care for it but after going back I've enjoyed it. Store pick barrel proof. If you like regular Remus more proof only going to make it better
Interesting that you find Handy that good. In my opinion it's a bottle that people hunt but don't really want. From my experience anyway. I don't find it every year but I'm always underwhelmed by it. But, we all like what we like and that's what's cool about trying different whiskeys.
@BourbonForageFishing just noticed in the comments section that you live just down the road from me. Besides Haggens or Bevmo on the guide, where could I find a Stagg or G.T.Stagg? I've never seen one in the wild.
You started your entire speech with incorrect information. This isn’t an MGP blend. MGP is the contracted distillery. I have opened one of my two bottles. Although you are correct it is not a GTS killer. I would definitely place is above any of my 3 batches of Stagg.
Fred Minnick said 13th Colony DO didn't even make his top 150 from last year.... That's all you need to know. If you want a GTS killer (or fighter) 13th Colony DO is it. Fred's extremely opinionated, don't let him fool you.
@@krisgaskins1 He said Parkers Heritage Double barrel was over Oaked and not good. Utterly non sense. It's one of the most sought after bottles on secondary and easily top 5 all time for me.
Oooo, mineral notes in Stagg 22B? Please tell me more! What other bottles do you pick up mineral notes in? MM Cellar Aged, well I won't be hunting it anyways since I can't stand wheated bourbon. That just leaves more money for me to build a shelf like yours filled with high quality booze!
My taste buds do not like wheated bourbon. I've tried so many different bottles, I revisit them and my reaction doesn't change. Saves me a lot of money and headache I guess?! Van Winkle products really just seem to be clout, status or trade fodder bottles at this point. I'll go looking for cognac/armagnac or other types of whiskey than bourbon if I want bold age statements. I'm not saying they are crap products but they are absolutely not worth the secondary prices they go for. You can thank Anthony Bourdain and others for not keeping their unaccountable pie holes shut for this insanity. Van Winkle products are just that, another product in the market. With the subjectivity of smell and taste from person to person, I'm less willing than ever to believe rave reviews at the A$$-cot awards for example. It's just bourbon folks! Whether it is 'Unicorn' level bourbon or not is for your individual discretion. If you like it, more power to you. But don't be like the A$$-cot awards (cough, paid positive reviews, cough...marketing!) and spout off to everyone to go chasing after it! If you say anything, just say give it a try if you can, before you buy it. Those review statements were not directed at you Bourbon Forage Fishing. I'm just making generalized statements and I'm sure you and other people reading this will understand who and what I'm referring to with the bourbon industry.
Here in Alabama the state controls the liquor so you have to go through there lottery system me and my have have applied 5 times with no results so i just go to Florida Georgia Mississippi got a couple wellers stagg elmer eh taylor for a little over secondary but the btac's are crazy high priced there 1000+
The high end bourbon are harder to come by, and way more expensive. Alocated bottles are a pain to get, and much of those are not high end. A simple bottle of Buffalo Trace(25$ msrp) is still allocated in VA ABC stores, but easily found on the shelf in many other states. The less than 1% of highend is extremely hard to find, and the secondary markets are and always will be insane.. and that is true for anything. There is a demand for a decent bourbon at affordable prices, and for example Wild Turkey 101 has always been a go to for sipping or mixing at 25$ or less is what sells. What I think is over is a fancy looking bottle with sourced MGP or Kentucy juice marked up over 100$ that is just marketed... most people will pass on them.. sourced is always twice the price for the same juice in a bottle of WT101.. that is becuase it is from MGP and they have to make money, the bottler makes money, the store makes money.. ects.. stick to distilery made, bottled and distributed. and your paying for whats in the bottle, not the hype.
I've never had George T Stagg, never had Smokeye Hill, and haven't stayed in a Holiday Inn Express in over a decade, but I was able to grab a Found North Batch 009 Cask Strength Aged 19 Years and while I can't say whether it's as good as Stagg, I'm going to stress the strength of this tree branch and say it's certainly better than Smokeguy Bill.
The hyping and marketing overdose is real right now. I don't know who has money left at this point to drop $90+ on a 5 year blue corn product just bc Fred Minnick said it competes with GTS. That statement alone told me everything I needed to know. GTS is a 15 year minimum premium annual product. Those two bottles should never even occupy the same sentence!
Maybe you should try it, then layout a valid argument. With facts & reasons, instead of just ranting pointlessly. Do I believe it's better, don't know and don't give a rats ass. Is stagg worth 800 to 1000 no, same stupid bourbon crap people fall for.
@@762weps Dude, Did you even watch my video? The point is it's a 5 year sourced MGP. I don't need to "lay out facts" Comparing it to gts is absurd, criminally so. I did link in my description box 2 reviews of 2 well know tik tok reviews basically saying it's a JOKE that it won Whiskey of the year. I don't think social media needs another review stating the obvious. I think it needs more Whiskey tubers putting out accurate narratives to counter what appears to be fraudulent activity by some.
Yes I did watch your video, and formed my own opinion. I didn't go by what someone else said you said. The best opinion is based on ones own experience.
I used to watch Minnick. It took me a minute to see that my pallete doesn't really align with his. Although he claims to be unbiased, I think some politics are involved in his process. I don't know if he's shilling for access, friends, or even if he's invested in some of the products. If I was guessing I'd say all 3. But of course I have no proof he's pushing stuff he's invested in. He may be legit. I don't know. I've just seen to many things I can't agree with.
@@TheNewRevolution It certainly seems political 🤷 Idk how else he comes up with absolutely bizarre/absurd happenings like this....... Thank you for the comment friend!
My buddy and I were just discussing Handy the other day. It's one of the few BTAC/Pappy bottles we see in the end of year raffles. A few of the bars/restaurants have a bottle of Handy so I need to try it. I don't chase Booker's. I've tried it, my friend really likes them. Not for me though. I prefer Knob Creek and Old Grand-Dad as far as Beam products.
Thanks for the perspective. Is it also possible that based on its performance ... there was demand ... so they are satisfying the demand of a small blender in CO via their website for a profit? I am struggling to see the issue. Either way I have one coming today and will share my thoughts. Hope it's not swill.
