My channel is about my journey in becoming a potter. My husband took me on a surprise date to a pottery studio. I got to throw several bowls that day. It was my first time ever handling clay. I enjoyed it so much, that he got me a wheel. So, this channel is my journey. From experimenting, learned my own technique, and just having fun.
Wow lots of ideas for classes! Love the vases and jewelry holders. You can get pipe cleaners to clean out the holes so glaze doesn’t stay in them. It’s so much easier than using the wax. Gosh that would take forever. Lol
Dang girl. This is awesome! You be been wanting to make one of these. I saw someone just yesterday that used stuff slabs inside to hold it up in the center. Very interesting idea. Just a little tip that will save you some time. When you pass the clay under the slab roller you only need to pass it through and back once. Hope that helps a bit. Great tutorial.
Omgosh how adorable!! I love kids artwork! Their parents will treasure those pieces. The face with the blonde petals is soo fun and creative! I’ve been wondering what you’ve been up to. It looks like I’ve missed several of your videos. I can’t stand it when my people don’t come up on my feed.
@@micheledickey4066 I am so sorry that I have not been so active. We actually have spent the summer having a couple vacations and preparing to do a complete remodel on our house. I honestly have not don’t much pottery this summer. But I am hoping things slow down enough soon for me to get back in the studio before I start a fall adult workshop class. I do love working with kids and seeing their imagination. It’s so unique and out of the box. As we get older I believe we have a harder time looking out of the box. So being around kids helps me to see all kinds of potential. And I love when they recognize me outside of the classroom too. That means the world to me because I know I made an impression.
@@tnlpottery4294 Oh girl please don’t apologize! You have a life we all get that! I’m glad you’re having vacations and good luck with the remodeling!! My hubby teaches second grade as well as martial arts and I absolutely love working with the kids so much. We have a Little Ninjas class for the younger kids 4 to 6 years old and they are sooo adorable.
Love the video! What a great way to document the work that has been completed at LaCour Assisted Living. I will save for future use as documentation for our grant reports. Grateful for your work with our friends at LaCour!
Oh yes! Great idea using the cone!! I have tried to make this shape but the bottom was very odd for me. I’m going to have to find a cone. Thanks for the idea!! Great tutorial!
I had the exact same idea of using coloring book images on my pottery!! Great carving!! Love the mugs!! May I ask why you use the applicator bottle instead of brushing the glaze on and wiping back??
Great minds do think alike. I use the applicator to get a thicker coat of the UG in the carvings so I don’t have to paint multiple times to get the thickness I want. That way the UG is not so transparent. I don’t know if that’s the right way, but it works for me.
I’m not great at drawing(really bad), so I use graphics and either carbon copy them on bisque or trace them on leather hard clay when I want to carve. This one I free handed from looking at the picture. I can sometimes freehand, but it doesn’t always come out the greatest.
Thanks for the suggestion. No, I haven’t tried it. I’m trying to use up a lot of the colors I have before buying more. 😂. I just put them in the kiln using Smokey merlot and chum plum. I’m hoping that works. I saw a lot of others that used that combo and it came out a pretty purple. So fingers crossed 🤞
Soo happy for a good kiln load!! I really love the pot with the leaves on the bottom!!! I also love the set of coasters and the holder! I make a ton of coasters and have never made the holder. Lol. Your big smile the entire time says so much. I also love the red and black. Great combo!!
Thank you so much. I was very excited. That was my first time doing coasters. I had seen the coasters with the holder somewhere and thought it was an awesome idea to try.
@@tnlpottery4294 I could really tell how happy you were. Did you put the coasters between pieces of Sheetrock with weights on the top? Thats the only way I’ve ever gotten them to not warp. Same way I make kiln cookies. I almost have to forget about them!!
Hi, here's a question for you to ponder, & in th future, to also consider , for some of those customers, who might be looking to complete their old sets. Are you also planning to make replacement crocks & old pottery for folks who might want their old pottery collection to be complete?? Love unc. Jeff B.
Wow these are soo pretty! Awsome job!! I love the hands sooo much. I may have to do this with my husbands second grade class. Can you tell me what you learned doing these classes? How did you keep the clay hands with the fingers curled in.
Because these were kindergarten and 1st grade I shaped them, but a 2nd grade class can shape themselves I would think. I used a toilet paper roll to hang the finger down will it began to harden up a little. Then after they hardened enough to stand up, I made sure the fingers were curled enough for the hand to sit flat on the bottom and the fingers up. With glazing, I find all grades have a hard time not getting the glaze on the bottom, so I do spend some time wiping back so they don’t stick to the kiln shelf.
When doing the bubble glazing you have to use a soap that doesn’t have any moisturizer or lotion etc in it. A lot of people use blue dawn dish soap. I absolutely love the swirly glazes on the crosses! Your bowl is absolutely gorgeous!!! Just an fyi. When you get toward the bottom of a crystal glaze open your new jar and add the crystals. lol. Good to see you.
@@tnlpottery4294 You are so very welcome. Yeah definitely need a dark underglaze. Keep track of how much water vs underglaze you use so you know when you have the right amounts. Is there a reason you put the white underglaze on the pot first? The white is going to mix with the underglaze and make it more dull.
Wipe back bisque, put bubbles on the bisque without a glaze underneath. Maybe less water so the color is deeper. Apply clear/transparent glaze over bubble area. Good luck. It's a fun technique.
Love the smiles as they work on their pieces and when they see the finished product! Thanks for sharing these experiences with our school children and senior residents! ❤️
To help you remember glazes and combos, number your pieces and keep a written list. I make generic drawings of a mugs, bowls, plates etc. and make photocopies. I record the number, glazes/combos and approximately where and how I applied them. That way, when magic happens in the kiln.... you know exactly what you did! Good luck, girl!
Love it! For those of us just starting out in pottery would you please tell us the process behind glazing starting with a darker color to a lighter color? I am in the process of researching the different techniques but was curious about the way you glazed the hat and coat. Thank you. :)
Omg girrrl!! This is sooo fun! Try to find some different sizes of styrofoam cones! They would work perfectly for making these so you could make sets!! You’re so dang creative! Keep going!!!
Thank you so much. Yeah I should have gotten the cone for it, but I was impatient and tried to make the template and do everything the hard way. 😂 Now that i accomplished the hard way I can do more the easy way. Lol. I know I’m so backwards.
Thank you. I’m doing well. Doing workshops. I have not worked on my own stuff in the studio for a few months. I’m trying to get my mind right with it. Just made a coil bowl and forgot to video it. Wish I had because it looks like a flower and is really cool. I guess it will have to wait for a kiln opening. Lol
