what is up with his bpm? when I write the beat just as he did on the grid it sounds nothing like it until I move the bpm from his 142 bpm all the way down to 37 bpm
Hey that’s mad, firstly I appreciate the comment and taking the time - my one thought here is that perhaps the subdivisions in your grid aren’t set correctly which has resulted in it seeming really slow because you have essentially written the pattern in a half time.. let me know if that makes sense and you can change the note grid by using cntrl/cmd 1&2 as the key commands
This video is awesome, thank you for the clear explanation of everything that's a super clear chain and makes heaps of sense the way you've shown it and broken it down. I've subscribed as well, much appreciated! I was looking to fine tune the sound of the chain i've got going in my mix, and this is IT. Thank you!!
I appreciate such kind and thoughtful words, glad you found it helpful- makes me realise I need to get back on doing this sort of thing, as it’s been a long time!! 🍻
Hey, you simply just put each note on a different key in the piano roll to ensure it’s going down or up in pitch, also using the velocity to descend really helps too - hope that helps unless I’ve misunderstood? 🍻
@actbeatstutorials1467 Hey, thank you for answering. I know what you mean, but then you have to click or move each note one by one on a different key and it's always going to be exactly one of the 12 notes. In FL Studio, at the bottom of the piano roll you can customize the pitch per note. Here is a link to a short video on busyworksbeats' channel where he shows how to make hi hat pitch dives in FL Studio: ru-vid.comO3Io4HTKaDc
Brother this is super dooper top level secret information. Ppl are imprisoned for trading exposing stuff like this lol. Dude Im new to Ableton but I've worked with DAWS for more than 20yrs. I use FL/mpc live /reason etc etc but I am really digging Ableton. Each DAW has its pros & cons. Thanks man👍
Thanks for the comment and sentiment!! Loool it felt a little saucy at the time and I wonder how many people realise how useable and custom you can get with Ableton.., I know that I’ve hardly scratched the surface as there are some absolute dark art secret sauce capabilities to be had!! 😂🙏🏼
Thanks for dropping the sub and comment, I got so super side tracked with life in 2022 but planning to begin to upload more content soon! Glad you found it helpful 👊🏼
Cool tutorial but I find it much more efficient to just use Simpler and use the glide function along with legato, much quicker and just as effective IMO
Thanks for the comment and checking it out, I also show different ways in the pt.2… my only issue with doing it your way is sometimes I want to have different slope times for different slides… I h e been able to find a way to do it without automation in pt.2, check it and see what you think but either way I appreciate the time taken to watch and comment! 👊🏼👊🏼
@@actbeatstutorials1467 I'd recommend using Max to manage that! You can easily set dynamic slope times and other envelope options through Max integration with the Live API, would highly recommend giving it a go!
@@calumvaughan8690 the wonderful world of Max! I must admit I’m less well versed in using Max and always intend to to explore it more. Will check it out and see what I can achieve, thanks again 👊🏼
Thanks for the comments, I’m glad you got some fast insights! Also, if you’re using ableton 11, I show you a different way to do it there using the new slide mode in a pt2. 🫡
Nice one! Thanks for the comments, if you’re using ableton 11, I show you a different way to do it there using the new slide mode and another way for 10 as well. 👊🏼
Hey CIRE, thanks for the comment! As a practise I guess there are some workarounds, for example you could group elements of the track by frequency bands and use subtle compression on the groups/group causing the most jumps in dynamics that feel disjointed, but this is likely to be a bit too distruttive to the overall mix. I’m just theorising a bit with that but essentially it’s doing the same thing to a degree. I would however look at downloading a free multi-band compressor as there are some great options out there, I have heard that GMulti is very good for example. Hope that helps! 👊🏼
Just sharing my process, there lots of ways to do it, some easier with less control and some more complex giving you more control - feel free to share your process in the comments with us all, it’s all about learning at the end of the day! 👊🏼
You are quite right but if you watch part 2, you will see how I do it with Simpler and which is my preferred way of doing it almost exclusively now, unless I really want specific control of the shape of a bend. Even better, Simpler comes with Ableton Intro, as well as Standard and of course Suite. I appreciate the comments and feedback 👊🏼❤️
You most certainly can, the main reason I used this method early on was the ability to change the shape of the glide envelope using automation - this way really allows you to be very intentional. It isn’t really the go to method that I use mostly but a good example of the detail automation can give you. If you check out the last 2 you will see how I do it using glide mode and the new slide feature in Live 11 - thanks for coming through and checking it out! 👊🏼
If you use cmd/ctrl + 1/2, you can change sub divisions of the grid - if you right click on the piano roll you can select snap to grid… I hope that helps, I appreciate the comment! 👊🏼🙏🏼
Appreciate the comment, in terms of stock plugs, I’m using putting it in mini using gain plug, then saturator set to soft sine and foaling it until it starts to distort slightly, eq to boost around 120 cut around 250 boost at 400-600, then free plugs, wider at around 20-30%, and magic switch at about 5-10% to give it a little flange to help the brrrrrr sound.
