A complete amateur attempts video essays and character analysis from film and television shows I love. In time, I hope to improve on all the necessary skills involved, enough to look back at these videos and cringe, someday. In the meantime, enjoy!
Irving maybe worked at O&D before, could explain why he didn’t get lost going to O&D - because he had muscle memory to going to that department - whereas the rest of MDR needed the map to get there. Burt also said something like, we at O&D hang the paintings, we don’t paint them. Maybe it wasn’t always like that and Irving actually painted a lot of the paintings Burt now hangs!
I think Harold P would not have been interested in this role that he “perfectly exemplifies Boyd” in if it wasn’t a complete story- beginning and character arc building, lots of intrigue and drama, and explanations that are answered over time. I think the writing is building the backstory in a way that we feel the frustration of the character’s lack of communication skills with each other and even to themselves. We know what they need to say or do and then here comes that supernatural phone call or someone is trying to mindf&$@ Jim… Kenny is so good at crying and speaking his native tongue 😢 his crying for his mama just melted my heart and deeply hurt- I feel like taking the Resident Mama was the most horrible for everyone in Fromville… the ultimate torture
It is an entity that has corrupted the land since its arrival (changing its location from time to time), the trees the forest, ofc some humans and their thoughs. Feeding i guess from their emotions
Why do people crank the bass in their recordings? Please turn it down, it doesn't feel good in the ears. It's a good video but kind of hard to listen to because of this.
I recently started suspecting that severance isn’t actually location based. That Greer or someone watches when the elevator comes down and switches them over. That’d play well into the theory that Milchik and Cobel are permanently severed - they just don’t switch anymore. Like someone else said, they could both be permanent Innies with their Outties having no clue.
What if they are in a simulation and this whole thing is played in their brain? So then basically the people who are dead won't be actually dead in real life. Tabitha would have gone against the path and would have woken up from the simulation in that hospital. This theory can justify all the happenings in 'From' coz in a setup like that, the creators of that simulation can add monsters, ghosts, they can give these people nightmares in dreams, produce electricity without wire and all those impossible things could be justified. And what if this was created by Victor's mum. The drawing Victor has are the stories his mum told him so what if his mum made a parallel world where everybody has to see and suffer the nightmares that Victor had. coz I have a proof here, the Civil war soldier that Jade saw was from one of Victors mums stories and Victor had it as one of his drawings.
Or maybe just like Jim suspected, this whole thing could be an experiment by the government. perhaps they all are in a pod and then sedated with some serum or something and everything that's happening is being played in their head. This might simply be a wicked idea of a higher-up or rich, or maybe they are trying to find people with some sort of power.
Severance also reminds me of Dark in the way it puts its puzzle box story together. The tone feels similar too, although without the comedy - Dark is very German and very... Dark. If you like VERY well done puzzle shows with amazing storytelling, pacing, etc. don't miss Dark!
The monsters are aliens that want to take over earth. They don’t want to just show up all at once because humans will prevail so they have created this place where they can determine best case scenario. The boy in white is a good alien who is against taking over earth and wants humans to survive
5:00 I always thought Victor was from Fromville. Like, for me it was a given. This is the first time that I hear it as a theory. 😵 Like when Jade asks him "don't you wanna go home?" Victor IS HOME so he never answers.
I get the same vibes as LOST when watching FROM, especially how the mystery is slowly unwrapped. We have the others, new comers to the stage and so on.
The writers are clearly playing with religious themes. "Our Lady Fatima" is a reference to the Virgin Mary....with a miraculous pregnancy no less. Boyd's, being the leader, with wounds on his shoulder, from the biblical story of Christ's wounds, not to mention his blood is basically a holy sacrament. Given that, and other symbolism I've seen, my money is on From being set in Limbo. Since all of the people there are unable to move forward in their lives since before they arrived in the town. Father Khatri is likely Minos. Boyd tells him the truth as Khatri offers counterpoint and judges. Also, part of Dante's Inferno talks about how Christ rescued some people from Limbo following his crucifixion so the statement Boyd makes about all leaving together would be apt. I haven't figured out who everyone else represents but Boyd is clearly Christ, Fatima is the Virgin Mary and Father Khatri is Minos. Donna is probably Mary Magdalene. And the boy in white? Presumably God leading the way.
a hint on how tv writing works, especially on a show like this. it's all misdirection. if someone expresses concern the baby wont be human, the show will subvert that expectation. whatever happens will probably be the least expected thing, which makes speculation about what will happen impossible on a show like this by the script. if you want insight into what might happen i suggest going to the literary and filmic refrences the writers are drawing from. for example Bacon as rhe inspiration for the Monsters and the showrunners coming from lost. it's safe to say the show will not go where lost went. also consider the Phantasm movies where inhuman zombie like creatures bleed yellow. Also there are several similarities with the novel House of Leaves.
This video is not for those people. Anyone who read the books and is satisfied in assuming they know what will happen, wouldn't be too interested in watching a video on theories.
I really hope that just Devon and Ricken are just a “opposites attract” to the highest figure couple. I really like them as being a steady ground for Marks life and just genuinely mean well for him and want him to be happy. Also Ricken is goofy but like I get it. He’s super sweet, he’s a good listener, a good dad, puts others first. Idk it makes sense to me why Devon is with him, she probably loves how head in the clouds he is. I also don’t think Devon is evil or has bad intentions. I think her asking him who he’s been talking to is just like. Idk just out of nowhere he’s against his company when for two years he wasn’t and she’s just curious and maybe more concerned cause she probably knows it’s not common for emplpyees to speak out. Like she’s wondering what he got involved in or what changed his mind. Especially after he said idk he said he saw a disheveled man in her front yard
Also remember Boyd killed one of the Monsters using the blood curse. They seem to have taken that personally also coz most likely no one has managed to do so till now.
I actually think Tabitha did mention her child falling off a changing table. Am not sure what season it was but am pretty sure it's not the first time I heard that story. I don't think the wet lady is trying to hurt anyone she just look scary. I think she is just trying to send a message or a warning. The rules of the town has definitely changed tho, remember someone did say the animals actually just came from the woods. Either they were always there left over from earlier residents or maybe the town gave it to them. Either way the powers that be are clearly taking them back along with changing the seasons so that crops can't grow. All in all Boyd is definitely at the center of it all cass he has been making moves and going places he ain't supposed to. It will all pay off in the end but I think it's gonna get a lot worse
I noticed that the show was hinting at Tian-Chen being the next to die in an ominous foreshadowing earlier in the episode. When Boyd goes to speak to Ethan after catching him eavesdropping, Ethan replies that he wants Alma to go first so "she doesn't have to watch her friends die". Also after doing minimal research, I've put together some possible clues? Alma's name means "Soul" or "Spirit" in spanish, she is also a goat. Tian-Chen Liu translates roughly in mandarin Chinese (i am not of Asian descent so please correct me if I'm wrong) to: Tian-Chen - "farmland"/"As if made by heaven"; Liu means (classical) "to kill/slaughter". I think Alma being a goat/grazing animal is probably like a sort of a detail as well. Also as another sort of possible hint found was that in biblical times, goats were used in many sacrifices, and were permitted by God for sacrifice and Tien-Chen was a Christian. These could be something or maybe just nonsense, who knows? :)
Until this episode, I assumed they put all the animals in the barn every night. I was surprised they'd leave them out at night AND have no talisman in the barn.
Since the monsters never attacked the animals before I wouldn't be suprised if they wanted to save all the talismans for the people. Alternatively, if i remember correctly from the episode, if the barn door was already opened, so talisman or not the monsters can get in. Sara's brother seemed to be the main animal care taker and since he died it seems the town hasn't selected a new person to take over. So the animals now seem to be taken care of by everyone. I can absolutely see this as an oversight. Like a family forgetting to feed their dog because everyone assumes the other people did it. I would also like to factor in that the season is changing which might result in sunset happening a lot earlier than people are used to, so they might run out of daylight to finish tasks. But that's just my take on it.
I'd like for you to read all my favorite books to me. You have a beautiful voice. From is a mind bending series and I think the place itself is also bending the town people's minds. Illusion is a big thing in From.
