Good vid ! Actually I prefer traveling solo! Once a year, I leave the husband, family and beasties behind (for 10 days), and just enjoy my own "self & thoughts"! I set my own schedule, and enjoy not having to answer a bunch of questions 😊! Have fun, enjoy the journey & destination and stay safe😊✈🌸!
I started traveling solo at 19 and at 63 I am still solo 90% of the time. I rarely get the question but it is often out of the other person's curiosity. In Europe, it is more often in restaurants as part of the shared table experience. My answer also depends on who is asking and the reason they are asking. Am I on a group tour? If yes, it lets the tour leader know to keep an eye out. If I am on a cruise or train, and a fellow passenger asks, I have always said "Yes, I am traveling solo; it is my preferred way to travel. However, I have a set routine for checking in and everyone home always knows where I am." I may toss in laughing and sarcastic "These days with pins, location settings, air trackers, traffic cameras, doorbell cameras....is anyone of us EVER TRULY ALONE (vocal emphasis). I think the other thing is to not look like a tourist- research what locals wear, learn, and perfect a few phrases before you go so that you can get by as a local in shops, restaurants, and hotels. Secure your person and your belongings, know where you are going before you head out- don't look to your phone for directions- use a wireless Bluetooth earbud, that way you can hear the directions without looking away from your destination. To your point about comments that make you feel looked down on, pitied, or judged, I get it. Sadly, I most encounter these comments from women (married or attached) and it tends to happen on cruises at dinner. I am sitting at a table for two, by the window watching a beautiful sunset with a beverage and Mrs. Judgy at the next table strikes up a conversation and you just know its coming lol. In those moments, my snark is at its best.
I find it really hard travelling solo. For me personally as I’m currently living in Australia I find it hard to make a core group of friends because everyone is moving around all the time so the friends you do make only last a couple of days or weeks. I only have 1 friend here in Melbourne and it’s difficult tbh. I feel like doing things on my own is boring and not exciting, plus I find most activities to do are made for at least two or more. The only solo activity I find is walking around the park or going to the movies. I feel like when I’m doing things it’s not because I want to do them but because I’m bored and don’t have anyone to spend time with so I end up just going for long walks. Hopefully it gets easier but who knows. My therapist told me that I’m lacking deep social connections which is true because I’m a people person
I been using Airbnb for a year. If you are visiting other countries for long stay, best to reserve for 2-3 days. That way, you can checkout the location and the space. You can always extend your stay or find another if you chose to. I made the mistake of reserving a 2 weeks in an area that was far from restaurants and shops.

If you're near the Canadian border, I'd suggest Nexus. It gives you Global Entry and Tsa Precheck on top of the added benefits with the Canadian Government and travel to and from.
This is a good question. I like to go to the local grocery store and see what snacks they have and pack some of those. This is also why I like the reusable storage bags and containers because I can wash them at the hotel and repack new snacks. I hope this helps! 💕

I SWEAR this is Kismet .... i was looking for airline snack info when I stumbled on your Global Entry video - which i *just* applied for in anticipation of an upcoming trip... then came upon this video next .... and *where* is the upcoming trip? Barcelona! 😂 Cannot wait! (I'm just a little concerned that I'll get some side eye for my Mexican Spanish, lol, and hope I can adapt quickly. 🤞🏼😁
SUPER USEFUL VID!!! I found this one after looking for travel snack ideas and yours popped up (loved that one too and def will be using your great snack suggestions on my upcoming 8-hour 😧 flight to Barcelona) - and BOY this is right on point and right on time for me. Just submitted my Global Entry application about 2 weeks ago (August, for a mid-December trip), and had no idea of the interview process and the timeline. I didn't realize that I'd be pushing it as far as having my card in hand by December. Now I have a more realistic idea that I may not have it in time for this trip, DANGit! But, my airport does do the enrollment on arrival, so since it's now 2024, I'm hoping the covid backlog is no longer in effect and that there still might be a possibility that I'll get it in 3 months or be able to do it upon my return. Why does one want to do only carry on? I want to check my bags. If you have an American Airlines cc it’s free. But even if it’s not free I check at least one bag. I don’t wear sneakers on a trip.

Great video! Did you go to Sagrada Familia Nativity tower? If so, how many steps up did you have to go up for the Nativity tower? Did you feel claustrophobic going either up or down?
2:30 I LOL’D so hard bc the first time I traveled in years to Seattle, I literally left my laptop during the TSA check and pretty much walked off before the TSA guy lifted it into the air and asked if it belonged to someone. Of course, I turn around thinking it’s someone else’s problem, and it was mine 😂, it was my problem 😭 my dad laughed at me and said “you can never travel alone”… but yes, so easy to loose belongs when you travel. Pack light and triple check!!!
It’s been 5 decades since I traveled in Europe alone and I think the world is a bit more frightening that it was then. During my solo travels I almost always spent hours or days sharing adventurers with other travelers (some solo, some couples or single companions). That was part of the joy of seeing new places and meeting new people.
For those who are skeptical, this really works! I registered on 8/25. Received a text the same day and was able to get an appointment scheduled 4 days later. The appointment took less than 10 minutes. Originally it had said that I couldn’t get an appointment until November 1. Past the date of my trip. I cannot thank you enough!
