Brother just do it. After mine first visit I went home and sold all my belongings in Sweden and moved down. It's plenty of jobs if you speak good English and none Spanish
I have just returned from Barcelona, I spent a month here and these tips are so useful 😍 I totally agree that it's a very walkable city! Also, even though me and my husband were very aware that there are a lot of pickpocketers and we were super careful, we still got robbed in the metro. Keep your phone and wallet near your body, ideally in an inside pocket of your jacket. I suggest visiting tourist attractions during weekdays, not weekends. It's also worth checking free admission days for museums, it's different for every museum (Thursday, Saturday, Sunday). Lastly, I suggest that you do your research on safety in each district of Barcelona before you book your accomodation. Avoid EL Raval at night, some parts of Sant Marti are also not so welcoming. I heard positive opinions on Les Corts and Gracia. I was living in Les Tres Torres for a week and it was very nice and safe, I really enjoyed it here. Then we moved to northern Sant Marti (near Besos Mar) and I must say that I didn't feel comfortable walking my dog at night there.
Hi Joanna, could you share with me, which hotel you stayed in Les Tres Torres Barcelona? I am planning to go there next year. I am also looking safe hotel with my family.
Another case which she forgot to mention is, people with different colourful or white even their fases they will pestering you in trying to to made a photograph with them very happy and laughing and then they will Insist and prepare you to give money.
I’m organising a stag party later this month and I’ve told my friends to have shorts and jogging pants with zipped pockets. I agree with you that most places are walkable, we are going visit Camp Nou from Poble Nou. The park is still in zone one and with a metro ticket you can change metros and it counts as one journey. Also there is a T familia ticket 8 journeys that can be share with friends, so for instance this would be return journeys for 4 people on one ticket. Totally agree with you that Barcelona is a fantastic city, it’s my favourite of all the cities that I’ve visited.
Thanks for making and sharing this video. You cover a lot of useful things other videos don't, e.g., that Spain is divided into many autonous zones, that there are super blocks, the bus after the subway stops running. Thanks so much.
Was in Madrid in Oct. '22 with my brother and a friend of mine. That friend is a great guy and makes a good amount of money and likes to tip very hard in the US. While we knew tipping wasn't too much of a thing in Spain, my friend continued his hard tipping just because its something he likes to do, partly because he used to work in the service industry. Let's just say his tipping was very much welcomed and sometimes we'd get a little bit extra from the bartender/waiter lol Looking at Barcelona this coming October!
@@KRodCollective think that twice before you move to Barna , go near in by the sea or in the country side ., Barna is only go to go as a tourist but not to live.
Very informative, concise and straight to the point video. You hit all the "just tell me what I need to know" points that would be useful for a first time visitor. Barcelona has become my favorite city in Europe to visit. I've visited four times and I still keep discovering more interesting places and things to do in Barcelona and the region of Catalunya. Loved that you pronounced Girona the Catalan way. 🙂👍
Thank you Dante! Barcelona is so wonderful isn't it? I hope you get plenty more opportunities to visit again. Thank you for watching! Happy and safe travels to you. 💕
Going to Barcelona next weekend and I can't wait! I have a money belt which I'll wear. Used it in Rome and it was fine. Looking forward to the food and architecture.
Excellent information. I lived in Rota for a few months in the summer and I agree 100% on the daylight situation. It's no wonder they have blackout shutters.
Great video! I'll be visiting Barcelona for the first time later this month. :) This video has me even more excited now. Question for you: Any tips for getting around at night for solo female travelers? That's one thing that is still a question mark in my mind... other than to exercise general safety and vigilance. I'm thinking more about restaurants and getting food (or maybe even some evening tours), than partying, especially since dinner is so late.
Hi Laila!! YAY!! So exciting! For getting around at night as a solo female traveler, my suggestion is that if you're walking at night, stick to main streets where you see lots of people and lights. It should be okay because people are out during dinner and night time. The Spanish love being out! I don't know if you're an introvert or extrovert or open to meeting ppl, but if you are, I almost guarantee that you will meet a couple people along the way. Have so much fun!! Please let me know how it goes!! 💕
This video is fabulous and very helpful 👍🏾👌🏾 I was in Barcelona (La Rambles Mar Bella & Badalona) last September for Skate Love Barcelona A Rollerskating & Music Festival wish I'd seen this back then you give great information and tips I'm heading back again this September staying longer this time to explore and experience the culture more can't wait the beaches are fantastic 🤩
Hiii!!! Oh I'm so glad it was helpful! Wow, that festival sounds amazing and such a Barcelona thing, I love it!! September is one of the best months to be in the city! Have a great time and enjoy it! Safe travels! 💕
About tipping: usually we do tip, but just the change, so a few cents and if you're pleased with the service maybe 1 to 2 euros, but no more, unless it is a bigger party. So, don't expect the service to be as attentive as in the US because they don't relay on tips for a living. Some people know some English, but it is British, so miscommunication may happen if you're American, also if you are native Spanish Latino speaker be prepared for miscommunication as well... Big thanks for the video you put together, good insides, and I love how much enthusiasm you put on it. Tax is already included in any price you see, except some fancy restaurants, if that's the case in the menu is going to be stated that tax not included, but it is rare.
I have plans to visit Barcelona this desember for few days holiday for first time and it's interesting to know there bout exploring....thanks for information 😍
Merci maca, Jo vaig neixa a Premia de Mar.. I live down under since the age of 14 now 76, have been back many times, I had a beautiful infancy and early teens there, Adeu, petons xxo
@@KRodCollectivemolt ben dit, també estimo Catalunya, lamentablement visc a Austràlia.. els meus viatges allà em fan feliça.. I had to learn English, lucky that I was young and I found it easy, stay well and happy in this clown world.xo
Thank YOU for watching! Ooohhh September is a really good time to go! Hmm, I want to say it might be in the 70s-80s in September. I honestly can't remember. 😫So it might be nice during the day. Maybe not hot enough for lounging at the beach during the day. But the temperature might drop a little at night, but should be nice! Have so much fun in Barcelona!! 💕
Thank you so much for your video! We will be in Barcelona for a night and a whole day before a cruise this May. We have never been to Barcelona, and I have booked a hotel that is in Sant Cugat. It is the Holiday Inn Express Sant Cugat, and it seems to be about a 30 min ride into the city. I booked out there due to ridiculous hotel prices the weekend we are there (a couple of concerts going on so prices are mostly in the triple digits a night). I was hoping you might have some information on the best transportation we should take into the city for sightseeing.
Hi Amy! Aww man! Yes, sometimes the hotel prices are out of control especially from around April/May to end of August. You can take the train from Sant Cugat strait into the city though. Take the FGC train line S1 or S2 I think, and you're right, should take around 30 mins or so. You can buy the tickets at the station. And it should take you directly to Plaza Catalunya. There is a great website I like to use call Rome2Rio which will show you all the transportation options you can choose from. Also, you can explore San Cugat as well. It's not as big as Barcelona, but it's pretty. I had a work colleague from there. 💕
Thanks very Informative!! We are 2 adults and 2 kids (9yrs and 13 yrs). We love the scenic options more than the histoical monuments (Only the most popular ones). Good beaches, lovely markets spectacualr views and experiences is something we are always looking for. We are flying in Barcelona on 21st May and are there for 10 nights and flying back from Madrid. Your suggestions would mean a lot.. Thanks Rajat
Hi Rajat! Have so much fun in Barcelona! Your kiddos will love it too! I'll be making a few videos soon about the best things to do in Barcelona, especially for scenic views and experiences so look out for that. For the time being, check out my blog (linked in description). I have a few posts there. 💕
Thank you for watching!! Cabify!! No Uber in Barcelona. I mean, there is, but it's complicated. Cabify is the best and most commonly used. There are also a lot of cabs around. They're usually pretty reasonably priced. Just make sure you're getting in the yellow and black ones. There will be a green or red symbol on top to let you know if they are free or not. (Green if they are.) Hope this helps! 💕
Help it my first time in Barcelona going to spend 3 days there and also thinking of also visit Madrid and then jumping on the cruise. My question is I’m a young 65, what should I pack for 11 days 😊
Hi there! I'll be making a separate packing video for Barcelona so look out for that! Make sure to bring good walking shoes because you'll most likely be walking a lot! 💕
What’s the best time to visit with decent weather? Do we need to exchange money prior to visiting? Food dish recommendations? Best places to stay? Is USD dollars acceptable? Do they take debit cards? Credit cards?
Hii, I'm staying in Barcelona in February and March but I'm not sure what to pack for clothing, I cannot tell if it's cold or not, what would you recommend? Also thank you for the video, it was so helpful!!
Hi Ecesu! From what I can remember, it’s still a little chilly and often rainy during February and March. I would pack a light coat/jacket for sure. February is def one of the cooler months there. Maybe some light long sleeve blouses too with jeans. Google to find the exact temperatures but that’s what I can remember. My birthday is at the end of March, so I always remember it still being a little chilly around then and having to wear a jacket. I hope this helps! 💕
Such a great job! I can’t wait to go! Thanks for being informative and energetic! Do you have any recommendations for the outlet converters? I have to work (from my laptop) while I’m there and want to make sure I have the best plug possible where I can also charge my phone. Also, wondering if I can work from cafés or any beach-view restaurants during the afternoons (2pm or later Barcelona time). Thank you!
Hi Alyssa! Yes, there are a lot of cafes that you can work from during the day. I have a list of great coffee shops on my blog. I'm not too sure about the beach view though as I think a lot of the beach restaurants may not have wifi for working but you can always walk down there and see if they'll let you chill for a bit. As far as the converters, the voltage is 230 and F sockets. I like to use the easy 2 prong adapters for my phone because they're so easy and light. For my laptop, I like to use the bigger universal ones. I may have a link in the description box. If not, send me a message and I'll send you a pic or link of what I use. Also thinking of making a separate video for packing for Barcelona so stay tuned for that. Have a great time! It's a gem of a city! 💕
Hi Alyssa! You sent me a message on IG right? I feel like I remember seeing it and I was in the middle of something and said "I'm going to come back to this so I can give a proper response." But then I went back and didn't see it. But maybe I'm making this all up? I'm so sorry!! The past couple of months have been so busy for me and I've had a lot on my plate. Do you still need help? Did you get the right plug? I'm so sorry I took so long. 😩
Thank you for the video! I am a person in wheelchair who traveling to Barcelona for the first time! How accessible is the public transportation? Which one is more accessible for me to go from the airport to the city centre? Please advise
Hi Ali!! I'm so sorry for my late response. Thank you so much for your comment. I have been thinking a lot about this and hoping to address this and provide some information about wheelchair accessibility around the city. More on that to come. For now, I think, although I'm not positive. But I believe that airports within the EU are required to provide assistance and meeting points for assistance. Send me an email (my email address is in the description box) and I can send you more information about it. Hopefully I'm not too late. 💕
@@KRodCollective that's would be very helpful! I am looking forward to learning more about how accessible the city is and to more resources. Thank you for your time ❤️
this video was awesome! thank you for this! also i know we dont know each other but if you are still there i would love to meet up! will be there 2nd weekend of july!
Thank you for watching Kady! So glad it was helpful. Oh you are too sweet! I would love to meet up, but I don’t live there anymore. 😩Have fun though! Safe travels. 💕
@@KRodCollective no way, guys be sleeping on you or they must be blind, Ebony goddess right there (hope you dont find this offensive, if so, pardon, I just love beautiful black women a lot haha)
I always try to exchange with my bank ahead of time. A couple weeks before my trip. This has always been the best rate that I’ve found for me personally. The airport is one of the worst, however, if you’re in a rush, it’s a good option.
Hi Tarina! I don’t know how long your stay is but if you know you want to see all of attractions, I think it could be a good deal! I would check to see if skip the line is included. But I’m going to look into the Go City Pass. Thank you for bringing it up. 💕
Hi! I am going in Barcelona in 3 Weeks. Do you recommend the pass Card for métro (31€ for 4 days) or buying ticket ? I am not going to leave the city and my hostels is near the sagrada Familia!
@@ariashaaan8124 Hi!! I'm so so sorry, I thought I responded to this Ari!! My suggestions right now and probably the easiest are tours that you can book online. My favorites are Viator and GetYourGuide, I have a few linked in the description box. I've used them both and love them. Also, Devour Tours in Spain are sooooo good for food and run by locals. Hope this helps! 💕
It's pretty safe IMO. Be careful with pickpockets. I wouldn't suggest some neighborhoods at night like Born. It used to be a lot safer but it's gotten more dangerous. Have fun!
This is such a great question. A lot of it would depend on the beach. There are some great beaches that are outside of the city, not too far, with less people. Also, if you are going into the water, sometimes I bring a bag and cover it with another towel and make sure I can see my stuff from the water at all times. I hope this is a little helpful. 💕
@@ashokjaswani8273 Hi Ashok!! Although I can't suggest a specific travel guide, something I do suggest are tours that you can book online. I have linked a couple in the description box. My favorites are Viator and GetYourGuide. I have used them both and they are great. Usually run by locals and you can just book your tour online. Devour tours in Barcelona and throughout Spain are also really great. Check the description box or send me an email (email addy in the description box) for more information. 💕
To all the people that have travelled/lived in Barcelona. Have you experienced pick pockets? If yes when and where? Would love to hear more about this from actual experiences as there is a lot of talk out there about this …
My husband has been robbed in metro when we were traveling back from the museum. We were talking in Polish so people could hear that we are foreginers. The train was not very crowded, but still few people were surrounding us. When the train was arriving at the station, one man started to cough like he was dying and fell on my husband, grabbing his arms and leaning on him. Then the door opened, the passengers started to leave the train and this man slowly left as well. Then my husband realized that his phone was missing but it was not the dying-coughing man who did it - they were most likely working in a group and while my husband was concentrated on this "accident", someone took his phone from the front pocket in his trousers. Fortunately my husband'd phone was old and it wasn't very expensive 😶
Hello! I'm from Barcelona and yes! You need to be really aware! They are everywhere (mostly in the entrance or inside the metro). They work in groups so my only advice is to have your belongings in front hidding the zippers as much as you can. And also I don't recommend using backpacks at all (nothing in your back that you can't controll) or purses that rest only in one shoulder. Sorry because English in not my language but basically what we use is a crossed purse. That was life changing for me. This type of thieves are not violent, they try to hide and not be the center of attention so if you witch them and shout at them, they will leave
Dinner is not latee, just americans eat too early haha, all southamerica its around 8, 9 or more, I was schocked when I discover Americans eat at 6 or smt, at that time he have our second small lunch lol
It can still be a little chilly and sometimes rainy in March. Double check the weather and make sure to bring a jacket and maybe a light scarf. My birthday is at the end of March and I remember it always being a little chilly around my birthday. Have fun!! 💕
I’ve only been to Europe once in my life; as a teenager back in the 1990s for my high school class trip to Italy. I didn’t enjoy my time there at all, so I suppose that’s the reason why I had no wanderlust since that time. However; I noticed that students who went to Spain had a blast, while it was rainy and miserable the whole time I was in Italy. anyway, fast forward l: I’m now looking at different blogs on RU-vid to consider for my second European travel destination, and I have to say; you were the first and only by far, that has made a travel destination sound so spectacular and excitable, that I feel perhaps Spain should be my choice in travel during the Christmas season, 2023?! Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Hi Lynda! Oh no! I'm so sorry you didn't enjoy your time in Italy. It's true, there are so many different factors that can go into liking or not liking a trip and/or destination. Aww thank you for watching! I love Spain so very much, I just hope I'm not overhyping it for people. 😂😅Yes and during the Christmas season, you get see all the pretty lights and Christmas traditions. Some of my favorite cities in Spain so far are Barcelona (obvioulsy), Madrid, San Sebastian, Toledo, Granada, and Sevilla! 💕
@@KRodCollective nice!.. as an African American woman myself; learning of your positive experience abroad truly means the world to me! Again, thank you for sharing
Hi!! Did you write me on Instagram? I thought maybe it was you, but I could be wrong. No, I don’t live there anymore. 😩But may move back one day, who knows? 🤷🏾♀️😅
I was in contact with you before your advice was stay in Eixample , what do you think about ElGotic, ElPoblenou and LaRamble Do they have enough restaurants and shops
I think it depends on ppl’s schedules. I for one eat dinner sometimes around 5/6 because I’m in bed by 9 if I have to work anywhere between 4am and 7am. 💕
This is not accurate...signs in Barcelona are only in catalan and although castilian (spanish for foreigners) is offical, catalan is the preferent language in local and autonomous administrations
This is not accurate to what I have specifically mentioned in this video. If you are talking about something else, just say that but that’s not at all what I said in this video. Some signs are in both Catalan and Spanish and even also English in some cases. There are local laws depending on the linguistic landscape. How do I know this? I literally studied this in Barcelona!! I have examples to prove it. I did not say anything about Catalan being or not being the preferred language in local and autonomous administrations so I have idea what you are talking about.
I lost 600€ in Barcelona to pickpocket. Lady selling flowers. She took it right out of my wallet! My fault 🤦♀️ so naive. Love Barcelona and returning in November. Great video! I will watch more
Oh noooo!!! I’m so sorry to hear that. I love that you didn’t allow that to taint your view of the city or your experience. Thank you for sharing this with us! 💕
You actually thinks you're a local? Like.... REALLY? I've lived here for 7 years now. And all my spanish and Catalan friends laughs at me when i say im local.
Of course she doesn’t. What is she going to call her video though? “Tips from someone who lived here for a few years while I went to school.”? She gets her point across that she is very familiar with the area and explains clearly that she lived there for only a short while. Her videos are clear, succinct, and very helpful to this North American. Where are yours?
The best video I’ve stumbled across so far!! Finally confirmed my trip to Barcelona earlier today and feeling so excited for it! So ur video: perfect! Girl you go into so much detail and link further resources🔥🔥🔥 doing gods work thank you!
Great video! Did you go to Sagrada Familia Nativity tower? If so, how many steps up did you have to go up for the Nativity tower? Did you feel claustrophobic going either up or down?
