With motion controlled models and layered plates, filmmakers carefully blocked out shots ensuring the audience could process what was happening at all times. This is just a pixel orgy.

This is my honest opinion on ST Discovery: I didnt like the story and ship design of this show... It just doesn't fit on the timeline and I especially hated the Red angel and the "Burn" Story plot of Season 2 and 3, tho I am planning on watching S4 and S 5 of discovery with some hope that its not gonna be as terrible as S2 and S3. Also Im embarrassed to admit that I liked this shot at 0:53 and thats probably the only good thing I can say to this show...Aside from captain Pike making an appearance

From 3:07 to 3:25 , which of the blue phaser beams belong to who? I cant tell if theyre meant to be control ships, or enterprise firinf back at control ships, or both at the same time....the shield impacts going off so close to the enterprise phaser banks makes it look like it could be control ships targetting their weapons but jesus its so confusing to look at!
@Pavel_M_Mihalik

Everybody is saying it looked like Star Wars (newsflash, Star Wars was not the only franchise to show dense space battles but oh well). This really felt more like a Battlestar Galactica battle with all the dense fire and point defense. I think that this is what Deep Space Nine would have done for the Dominion battles if they had the resources to do so. I sometimes find Trek battles a bit too cut and dry - ship A fires at ship B, Ship B returns fire and back and forth it goes for a couple of volleys. And at least for once the damned shields were working, sometimes Star Trek forgets about that.

I have been a ST fan since I watched the original series 40 years ago. Watched all the shows, read tons of the books, even done a number of conventions. I do not understand all the hate this show got as I think it is one of the most intelligent and thoughtful Trek series made. I appreciate the change of the tone and character to match the times while staying true to the theme of IDIC and respecting the intellectual fan as much as the action oriented ones. As a ST fan, I will always be thankful they are making anything Trek as it would be so easy to not for Paramount.

There's definitely a large percentage of Old Fans who were pretty set in their ways and wants and expectations, and wanted "more of the same" from what they got out of 90s Trek. The annoying part is that the level of progressive representation in Discovery is really kindof about the same as TOS had... back in the 1960s. Having a black woman, an Asian, and later a Russian on the BRIDGE crew was a big fuckin deal in the 1960s and was about as extreme / "woke" as they could get away with back then. Hell, Roddenberry wanted a female First Officer (Number One in The Cage) but wasn't allowed by the network execs. Today's Trek being loaded up with LGBT reps, minorities, and women, and minimizing the "normalization" of the white man is genuinely in keeping with Roddenberry's original desire for the series, though of course there are other aspects of Trek that have strayed from his vision - and this has been true since the day he died. Even some later TNG episodes and concepts wouldn't have been acceptable to Gene, but I honestly feel that Trek still embodies the bones of his vision and has overall been better off without some of his more awkward limitations.

@@ElysaraCh Well said. TV is a product of the times, even if it hurts the feelings of those who don't want to live in those times. Unless Trek gets a younger generation to start engaging with it in higher numbers, this franchise will not be around in 20 years or maybe even 10 I believe.
@ElysaraCh
@ElysaraCh 26 дней назад
@boomerbobable I think if Trek 'fades away' like it did with ENT after the current burst of shows and films, I'll still be satisfied we got a lot of great content between SNW, LD, and yes, even Discovery and Prodigy. And maybe when i am as old as the original TOS fans are today, we will see another resurgence that will feature pod people and all seventy-six (and a half) genders represented because that'll be the social progressivism of its era! :)

I call BS. In TOS, Pike, whose physical body is in a box with flashing lights, is given the choice to live in a fantasy where he gets to run around and hook up with a hit blonde babe, who is in reality disfigured but lives in the same fantasy as Pike where they can run around, explore things, and have sex…win-win! But now DSC says “nahhh, it’s all good, through the power of Michael all is good with the Universe,The End.” WTF??

Sulu is the pilot, not the person sitting in the captain's chair. Admiral Kirk would have nothing to worry about since he is intimately familiar with Sulu's piloting skills and spent years trusting him with the ship's and the entire crew's safety.

Why was the deflector array red when starting up but blue after leaving spacedock?
@oldtimefarmboy617
@oldtimefarmboy617 Месяц назад
"Why was the deflector array red when starting up but blue after leaving spacedock?" The deflector array is designed to send out an energy wave ahead of the ship that can push gas, dust, and other larger objects out to the side and away from the ships line of travel at the highest warp speeds. Think about what would happen if the deflector array was engaged inside of space dock.
@garysprandel1817
@garysprandel1817 6 дней назад
It's been posed that the red/orange deflector array is the array at standby after being brought online and the ship is moving on maneuvering thrusters where navigational deflectors are not needed. It goes blue when active once under impulse and begins moving at speeds where impact with even a micro meteor would ruin your whole day.

Question...when Kirk orders "one-quarter impulse power" is he talking about power level or speed?
@JV-pu8kx
@JV-pu8kx Месяц назад
Same with today's ships ordering "full speed", "flanking", etc., (it is possible to request specific speeds: "make revolutions for thirty knots", etc.) or with warp factors: power level.

Major continuity error. “Aft thrusters” should clear the space dock. “One quarter impulse power” should drive the Enterprise hard and fast away from Earth, such that the planet is a rapidly shrinking image on the view screen, within a few seconds. Kirk did this in one of the other movies, taking the ship out of the hanger of space dock, from a dead stop. The space dock disappeared really quickly… 😅
@bradwart
@bradwart Месяц назад
Trek has always been a bit inconstant with impulse speeds. In VI they aren’t going fast enough when Kirk orders them to use impulse out of Spacedock - the remastered scene someone posted on YT a few years ago fixes that.

No doubt about it. My mother and I both like the Enterprise 1701 in her Constitution II refit configuration, plus her outwardly identical successor Enterprise 1701-A. The Enterprise's main control room (bridge) on the 2nd Star Trek Original Series movie, prior to the assault by the hijacked USS Reliant, is the best control room, in my honest opinion. But, I despise the door hiss sound effect on the TOS movies. God Rest costume designer Robert Fletcher for his improved uniform design for the 2nd TOS movie that outshined the 1st TOS movie's most reviled "space pajama" uniform design that Mr. Fletcher also designed.

This is silly - Learning a different language is not the same as learning 94 in the hopes it MIGHT come up. How is the UT changing the sounds that are coming out of the vocal chords of the crew so they are LITERALLY SPEAKING another language. Alternatively, the UT is an implant in their ears that cannot be shut off to let them hear what people are ACTUALLY saying.
@PR3DATOR490
@PR3DATOR490 Месяц назад
Yup... STD stupidity at it's finest. Somehow a computer virus is able to literally change the sounds that are coming out of someones vocal chords because the Universal Translator must be a cybernetic implant in their throats, right ? You want to argue it is changing what they are HEARING - Okay, so the UT is an implant in their ears that cannot be shut off to allow them to hear what is ACTUALLY being said ? STD is world buildingly stupid: Learning a foreign language is not really the same as learning EVERY possible langauge they could ever encounter for EVERY member of Starfleet. If you apply even a little bit of sense - Starfleet would teach reading and writing of a "main" language both as a backup against the UT failing. The Federation is a multi-racial organisation that spans multiple races which would have their own languages and dialects to the point they may ALL need to learn at least the "main" language of Starfleet.
