Planetside Agent is a name I chose for two reasons. 1. all of the names I wanted were taken or similar to other channels. 2. My planned videos will cover different topics so I needed a name that wasn't restricted to a particular content.
Videos i share on this channel will be topics that I think some viewers might find interesting or at least I find interesting. If you stumble across my videos and enjoy them that's great, if not that's fine too. I'm not doing this for fame or money, just for fun.
use the vector stove with the altoids stand, you may just have to do some Dremel work to the bolts, but good idea for tea or instant coffee. you can always boil another cup while you drink one.
You are missing one of the main advantages of the Stanley Adventure Cook Set! The butterfly handle stainless steel cup from Walmart (or Pathfinder) fits perfectly on the bottom making the two plastic cups unnecessary. The lid also fits the Walmart cup giving you two pots if desired. This frees up the entire interior of the pot. For example, it holds two small gas cans (when inverted) a mini Bic lighter, a small sponge, and the BRS Stove 3000T. You can also fit a flexible windscreen, Trangia stove, two-piece cross stand, small fuel bottle, cleaning sponge, and mini Bic lighter. I like the cups a lot but I put them with other camping kits. The advantage of having a metal cup that can double as a small cooking pot is too great to pass up.
The cups are nice in cooler weather to keep liquids warm. The 18 oz Ozark trail cork bottom cup and 10oz cork bottom tumbler lids from wally world fit the cups perfectly too. I have the stainless cup but I'm keeping one with the lid in the cooler months for sure. There's plenty of room for extras in the orca h20 bottle bag.
Thanks for the update. Thats exactly the cup i keep with my kit. Seems like it can still nest to a limited degree. Might even still fit inside that case while stacked since it looks like about an inch in height difference.
the 1 thing i see is the sides are not drilled for hanging with a fish jaw opener over a fire. i have a older stanley with that option on mine. the other thing i do is, i put 2 of the 4 oz cans butane inside the pot. an have the coleman version of a msr pocket rocket stove sitting in the bag on top. did replace the plastic lid handle with a split ring handle. what i see with the new pot an trying to nest items together is a lot of wasted space.
Picked up two ozark trail 18 oz cups for this new cookset. An REI reviewer says they "fit perfect" as does the pot lid. If my cookset ever arrives by USPS(delayed) i'll test it out. Thanks for the videos.
@@planetsideagent Tommy was a famous British comedian, born in Caerphilly. He had a trademark , comedic, routine of placing a table tennis ball under one of three cups and generally messing up, for comedic effect, the conjuring trick. In reallity he was a very good conjuror and comedian. He died on stage while finishing his act, lots of folk genuinely thought it was part of his act.
There is a “bottle pouch kit” out there in you-tube land where a gent like yourself sewed an elastic band to the lid of the bottle pouch to store the lid for the pathfinder cup and Stanley cup lid. It’s on my list to do.
OK, I just posted a new video and tried to keep track of my hands. Is this one any better? 🙂 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-IESuhO4mStE.html
Interesting differences. One thing you might want to check would be if the new one still nests inside the GSI and/or Wall-mart SS cup. The older one could fit inside one of these cups, giving you two containers instead of just the one for the same space. I do like the new lid. I heard of issues with melting the older lid tab because it is plastic.
It fits. I have it along with a titanium Trangia style stove with cross bars for it and a green canvas pouch/carry case I got off of Etsy for $35. Nice little setup overall 🦾
@@planetsideagent at that size it most likely doesn't fit. With the old one it's not a forced fit but just the right size to fit snuggly inside those cups.
👍👍👍 .. nice overview with the options 😊. With the various stacking variations and the options regarding additional storage for small items in the spaces created .. a caution of I may please .. Small, loose items when removed and not used immediately, tend to 'run and hide' .. forever 😏. Little baggies made from whatever, come in handy to keep them from emigrating. Thanks for sharing .. take care ..
The new Stanley Gen 2 cook set lid doesn't not sit correctly on the GSI or Ozark Trail nesting cups unfortunately. I'm going to see if it fits and will nest with the Coughlan's 21oz cup. Update ! The 21oz cup works perfectly the Gen 2 Stanley cook set 😀
I think the Nalgene is a moot point because not only could you not use the cups and would have to stash the lid, but you also wouldn't be able to close the handle. Best option is to use it as intended and just carry a tin cup and Nalgene nested together. Now you have the pot to boil/cook/make coffee, and also have a cup to mix oatmeal or eat from while enjoying your coffee.
With that being said, here is a way to layer it: lid of new cup, new cup on top, cosmetic tin alcohol stove inside, topped with the old cup, then 1 original green cup inside, alcohol stove stand, coffee equipment, collapsible spoon, rag, etc, then original lid. Now they both nest practically for a kit
@@planetsideagent 👍 Plastic Cup definitely! I too, like my hot beverages hot .. very hot and with no scalded lips as a result thereof. My plastic mug w handle weighs almost nothing, can hang on the outside lf my pack if necessary and has served me well for over 15 years. In Winter, an insulated SS Mug with Plastic Lid and Folding Handles does service.
@@drlsgtwoodruff The stanley is hard to beat for the price . Its a good size as well . I also have a Soviet VDV mess kit ( I highly reccomend ) . The stanley and that for a go bag ? That might work . Have to make a test trip sometime .
Yes, It slips in down to the handle, so leaves a little space at the bottom. Your comment sparked me to do video on the subject. It may be out later today. 🙂
I have both the old one and this new one. In my humble opinion, I prefer the new version and think it's worth upgrading. The new one is $20 at REI which is about the same price as the old one. I also purchased three other Wildfare items as well. I really like the Wildfare skillet because it's try-ply through and through and not just the bottom. If you liked with the old style , you'll love the new one.
I got the old one I haven't seen the new one yet . My grandsons love it when we go camping. Why is Walmart dropping them tho . I don't see the Stanley stuff that much?
I do the same with other products, I just watched a video where they were trying different flavors of Spam, I don't care for Spam but the video was fun 🙂
I never thought about it but a good point since the shipper and the distance traveled can be tough on an item. I just watched a video where the guys shipped a bunch of Spam from the US to the UK, one can was really dented but still eatable another was a goner.
Hi! A very interesting video indeed! Thanks! I have a question/remark though: could the pulsating be due to over-priming? In hand pumped liquid stoves, pulsating is usually due to over overpressurizing the fuel bottle. Maybe here we see a similar effect, with the priming heats the tank directly, maybe slightly overpressurizing it. This pushes fuel vapours up and makes the whole system fuel rich and unstable. Then, once the stove runs for a while, the heat distribution changes: the bell and evaporator heat up, but the tank cools down somewhat, reducing the pressure hereby stopping the pulsations? Maybe the tight wick compounded the problem by acting as a plug and allowing the pressure in the tank to be even higher? Just a thought.
I have and love the Russian kit too, It is probably the least well known. Actually, I have all of those kits. The Yugo is my least favorite, I have bought two of them and the caneen leaks on both.
Really nicely done. Just wondering why the enhanced stove has the trivets level with the top and the basic stove has raised trivets? Thank you in advance
probably i cut too deep when cutting the notches, they defiantly need to sit above the can rim for air flow otherwise a large pot could choke the fire. For the test it didn't matter since I wasn't going to use pots in the demo. Now I need to go back a check my stoves to make sure those trivets weren't used. 🙂
I'm sure over time the plumbers tape will warp but I think you could see it coming in time to make new ones, which is easy. Plumbers tape is not expensive and, at least the roll I got, enough to build many trivets.
