A few years ago I took one of my inhaler bottles and made a small alcohol stove with it. didn't have enough in it to really get the water the boil but it got those little air bubbles going inside of it. It was a project in and a half, putting little tiny holes around the rim by hand using a tiny drill bit, it was just to do it, but it worked. it got a cup of water how enough for coffee. wouldn't ever bother with it in any real life scenario but it's fun to tinker. I enjoy watching people make stuff like this. might not be anything beyond 'in a pinch' but it's still cool.

Cool. Holes at the top of round stoves does improve performance. Minibull Design's Gnome stove he added holes for the turbo versison and you can add a sleeve to block the holes for a simmer. For my round canister burner I added a collar with holes which also improved performance. Here are the videos I did on the Turbo Gnome and my canister burner. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3XDaY76Vs5A.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3GQiw35btBk.html

Cheers for giving metric units as well as imperial, for the tiny burner as I never use inches. The UK stopped using imperial in schools about 50 years ago, and we're left with a mishmash where metric is used for most stuff, but speed signs are in miles per hour, milk and beer sold in pints etc. Maybe you could use two little burners, side by side? Nice experiment anyway!

The US almost went to metric, I think, back in the 80s. I'm not sure why our congress squashed it, probably the old goats couldn't handle the change. We are starting to see metric here and their, the US illegal drug industry switched to metric a long time ago, pretty progressive those guys. 🙂 I may give the two burner a try, the interesting question is, would two 1/2oz burners perform as well as one 1oz burner.

I just posted a video testing two burners. Works great for 237ml of water but 473ml is to much for them. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-242pOPrGR7k.html

Thanks for doing that Planetside. Keep up the good work 😃. Inspired by your video, I made a little burner out of a used aluminium Nivea hand cream tin. I tested it and it fits into the esbit stove on top of the burner tray, and boiled the 500ml/cup of water.

👍👍👍 .. interesting. I suspect that the depth of the little tin is the deciding factor .. just not enough to ensure a long enough burn to bring that water to a boil. A little more depth and you'll probably be on target. Thanks for sharing .. take care.

Interesting video, it would be worth finding a 2x1 tin with twice the height and see what the results would be.

They are on order. 🙂 I'll do a video after I get them.

Yes, more depth will give a longer burn time. Probably the same heat output, but in this instance, burn time will be a factor.

Great little test video. I was wondering what are the total ingredients listed on the side of the heet bottle? I can't find it where I am but there seems to be other substitutes but I want to make sure I'm getting a similar product.

Its Methyl alcohol, so any product you can find with 100% methyl will work fine. There is denatured alcohol which I assume may be found most anywhere. Video I've watch from Europe they call it just Meth and is colored pink or purple. Ethyl alcohol works fine but its usually expensive because its drinking alcohol and heavily taxed and controlled. I've watched videos from Lars of Survival Russia where he distills ethyl alcohol for cleaning and other uses which in small batches is legal in Russia. Hope this helps.
