For most people, Xinjiang is known as the place of concentration camps, oppression and cultural genocide. While this is true, what gets lost in the news is the incredible beauty of the Uyghur culture and the breathtaking scenery of the region.
Josh's videos remain here as a time capsule of a history and culture that is slowly being erased. Most of what you'll see no longer exists today.

The real old city may have more soul but it's not beautiful at all. But people loved it all the same. It should have been rebuilt house by house respecting the original plan even if that made it difficult for tourists to move around en masse. Unfortunately, the Han people (I don't call them "Chinese" for obvious reasons) having no religion and sense of the sacred, have replaced it with the cult of safety and hygiene and they go around forcing everyone to observe their creed. Safety and hygiene have also been used to destroy most of the ancient cities and neighborhoods in the Han heartland, too. So it is wrong to see the Han as somehow targeting the Uighurs. They have done these things to themselves also. They have become such a charmless race... It's sad to see the utter degeneration of Han culture and to see it drag all the other cultures with it. By the way, I think that the spelling Xinjiang is undecipherable for foreigners. Why don't you just write "Sinkiang"? That's pronounceable. Besides, you could spin it to say that sin- means "Chinese" as in "Sino-American relations".

White Americans want to see Uyghurs living in old and unsafe houses for them to see when they go there as tourists. They dont care about the Uyghurs living conditions or wellbeing. This guy had no right to go there and passed judgement on the Chinese government. The Chinese government has done a fantastic job in improving the lives of millions of the Uyghur people.

Unfortunately, the dirty communists have ruined this place. Some may think that China developed Turkestan, but in return it stole the wealth of the Uyghurs and made them live in a large prison.
Something I find interesting about this region of the world is the climate. Around Turpan has summers like that of Phoenix, Arizona, yet winters like places in Michigan, or Wisconsin USA.
Americans just stfu and go back to europe, anyone would rather live in a nice apartment rather than a slum.. Funny you think things should stay the same forever to satisfy your tourist expectations when I'm pretty sure the ppl who actually live there everyday wants to live in a new nicer home not made of mud. If the gov came and offered to rebuild by 300 year old house for me, I'd say yes without a second thought as long as it improves my living condition and make my property worth more. Privileged white ppl and their opinion..gross. You'd probably want ppl to live in huts made of straw so you can take photos and experience the "ancient way of life" for novelty

I really miss Xinjiang food but if often gave me laduze. I want to make tiger salad but the recipes online are from Han Chinese and not correct. Can you help?
