After four years of boatwork, we have untied the lines and realized the dream of cruising the world. Julia is a wooden Atkin Ingrid ketch, traditionally built in 1960. Her recent voyage began in 2021, in Seattle, Washington, and has included sailing south along the US west coast to Mexico, and west across the Pacific Ocean. She was made for the seas, and has continued to show us that sailing on a wooden boat has been worth all the effort to make it happen. Thanks for following along as we share film from our adventures.
Cheers, Jonathan & Whitney

i'd like to take a moment and let you know how much i like your sailing adventures. you've taken me beautiful places that otherwise i'd never get to see. keep up the good work and i'll be looking for your next vido. take care and be safe. just to let you know i'm 74 years young and wish i have done what your doing, and on another note , it's refreshing to see your wife diving without her butt cheeks showing.
My wife is from Mazatlan, and I've been following you two after randomly finding your Mazatlan video before you crossed. I love your content. Your narration skills are beyond excellent, and the vibes of your videos are truly amazing. Safe passages to you.
You guys have the BEST sailing channel on RU-vid by far, and I patiently await for each new post. I’m going through some rough waters, navigating life at a later stage, disabled, divorcing, and not so well off. Your videos are inspiring and uplifting, and bring joy and hope. I thank you both so very much for sharing your lives and adventures. Live life to the fullest, appreciate each other and what you have, and stay adventurous!
Hi there. Fantastic 'real' sailing channel. Couple video questions if you don't mind? Your footage is always 'cinematic' looking which I prefer - I am only just learning about correct FPS and all that. Do you shoot in 24 FPS and what are your cameras? Don't know if you are coming to New Zealand, but enjoy our waters if you do decide to come down here. Cheers and fair winds.
Absolutely stunning videos. Thank you so much. You have probably mentioned this at one point but how much anchor rode do you carry and is it all chain? Thanks again for your amazing work.
Your videos have a nostalgic quality reminiscent of when travellogs were produced with film. This and the slow pace leave the viewer left with a feeling of living a life that was missed there our own lives. Looking forward to the next sail.
Did you meet up with "One life", "SV Delos", or "We Sail", over the last 2 months, as they may have been in the General area..... (sort of). It's hard to tell because of the delay in the video presentation.
As I watch you use your tools for navigation, I can see that it is so nice with modern tech to not worry about winding up in the middle of nowhere without knowing which way to go, or missing an island because of a slight course error. Avoiding bad weather is easier too. Thanks so much for sharing your adventure. The views above and below the surface are amazing.
I have traveled almost everywhere in the South Pacific and there is just one place I did not like: New Caledonia. Not that it is not beautiful, l'Ile des pins (pine island) is gorgeous, but I found the indigenous Melanesian people, the Kanaks, extremely unfriendly, particularly toward white people. What a difference with Fidji! I hope you will have a better experience than I did, although racial tensions were flaring in Noumea last week and the situation is still volatile.
Going back into your library to watch from where you guys begin to see the ones I missed of your journey only a few ! Which all are Remarkable! Thanks so very much in sharing your adventures!
One of your best videos.. just amazing... !!! I live in the South of Spain and I always see how the southern sun treats the wood of the fishing boats and I wonder how the sun and the tropics affects Julia? A big hug from the south of Spain
Great films to watch, they will endure for many years, I plan to follow your route when my boat is complete leaving from the PNW of Canada 🇨🇦 soon, can you share the drawing of the homemade wind vane?
I've watched every episode you have made since you started this journey and you two look younger than you did when you began. Seriously, stress is lifted and you look truly rested and joyful.
