23:45 Despite the reception of Macross Delta as a whole, the 2nd movie is its Redemption arc and a good tie in to the Original SDF Macross. Glad that the Megaroad-01 mystery is answered.........a little bit.
Oh my god, Macross DYRL......this movie is 80s masterpiece. Even till today it never get me bored watching it, feels like a love letter and a love story.
This movie is the definition of wasted potential. Every single one of its issues stems from its format. It was originally supposed to be a TV anime and it feels like 26 episodes of a TV anime crammed into a 100 minute film. Not enough time for character development. Not enough time for worldbuilding. Not enough time for subplots. Not enough time for audiences to digest what happened. Things just jump around at lightspeed. This could have been a new beginning for Gundam. An era that was freed from the constraints of the One Year War, Char and Amuro and the Newtypes. Instead it was a failure and Sunrise completely pivoted. Instead of getting a new era of UC, we got the AU timelines. That isn't a bad thing, but UC has been trapped in an endless cycle of repeating the same thing ever since. I actually want F91 to get a second chance some day. A chance to tell its full story properly. I would like to see a TV anime, but more realistically it could be in manga form. The potential is there, we just never got to see that potential fulfilled.
Wait a minute… Minerva saw the fall of the titans and the fall of neo Zeon?!!! If you’re referring to the Minerva in Z and ZZ that’s with Haman, then that’s a mistake as that Minerva was a fake as mentioned at the end of ZZ
I love the Macross series, But i even love more "DO YOU REMEMBER LOVE?" Even Though it is a retold compress version i love this one much better.... Btw i do not like robotech, it is the bastardized version if 3 different mech anime.
Ehhhh, I actually prefer this Mecha style more than the Gundams. Crazy how the algorithm work. First I get shown a short of the golden mecha fighting, then next day, I get suggested your video. THEY are ALWAYS watching us. 💀😬
Felt everything you said like I enjoyed it as a gundam fan, as a time killer lol I felt the actual f91 gundam wasn't anything special and took a back seat even overall a series would have been nice but would had to been a lot flash backs and chance run inns with characters to back track and explain buuut give more chance for extra episodes so wish they could have done an after where they take down the raining crossbones plus maybe another faction teamed up with crossbones could tie in zion faction that is trying to make a come back under clone of past zion leader to pull on nostalgia points
Thank you for the review, very well made. Do you think this must be taken as a rebooth? Is the same universe than the tv anime? There are some aspect I like very much as the quality of the animation still aging very well and the more alienish inhuman Zentradi aspect and their conflict with the Meltrans. I like the fact the SDF1 cmaes from Meltrans as the Supervision Army concept was never too clrear fro me. I find things too condensed as everything happends pretty fast, and really didn't like Max macronization and his consequent affilation to the Meltran. Millya micronization and her desertion fairer.
Thank you for the review, really well made. Let me add one consideration, I think that the 3 series that made up Robotech share one interesting common aspect: The Starship Troopers factor. A civilian that join the space army (in case of Macross), and the mecha suits against alien enemies in case of all three.
The guns for the Valkyrie in Frontier are absolutely ridiculous in size, not sure i like how they transform as well. I guess nothing can beat the VF-1S in how it transforms and things just work instead of all the "new" exercises in transforming fighters in Macross. I definitely do not like how they changed the way the cockpit is split and it's placement in the Macross Frontier Valkyrie's. I do like that they finally made the Armor work properly as well. Hopefully in the future they get back to the original or closer to the original Valkyrie's.
I want more of Macross series more practical and humans really could bulid one with this morder technology.❤ Gundam in other hand, we haven't terraform Mars yet.🫤
I've been getting into Gundam myself lately (dragged feetfirst into it, really...), and I started with the original series. It definitely started off slow, but my god has it been satisfying to see it through. From the very beginning, Gundam was never just about flashy robots, and I really appreciate that even if I do find myself posing gunpla for like half an hour at a time lmao
gundam are only samurais on space, the stories, characters, emotional interests are the same as samurai movies, we just need to see the first 2 minutes of samurai 7 (anime) to see how gundam is ;D about your "realistic robot" claim , i will say that gundam allway fails, its not the mechanical design (that is awasome) its the systems to control them to make that awasome moves that they show off (samurai moves), the manufacturing process to make a gundam needs gigantic resources and on gundam battles , not main char gundams their are disposed like trash and replaced like paper robots ;D and giving them dumb or near monkey brain pilots.
its not overthinking, its just thinking, a super power we all have and dont use. If Wawamori had not adopted music as a magical factor, the Macross franchise would never have advanced beyond the centraedi saga. It is interesting that the cultural shock gave us the advantage against them, but against other enemies it would simply be useless and we would have become extinct along with Macross.
Considering F91 and Victory, I'd like to have a new gundam series take place as a sequel to this or Hathaway. And I would like to see it cover federation spies hunting down newtypes in the colonies.
I doubt they really went through time. More likely, this was a newtype mental link that has happened in other shows. Frontal, being colder and calculating, was probably just showing Banagher the future as Frontal sees it. With that in mind, it also would explain Frontals mindset and philosophy
there isn't much deep discussion about this franchise online since I found out about this on a fansite back in college (ages ago). I had a handful of Newtype magazines that I can't even read, I just wanna know its world /lore beyond the anime since the manga is as old as I am.
It's a terrible symphogear clone under the name Macross. It should have been the first spinoff, its current place is like putting g gundam as a sequel to Chars Counterattack.
Macross F was a deviation but still closer to the original vision of Macross than the more lighthearted instalments. Many appreciated how Frontier honored the spirit of the original Macross while introducing new ideas and technology, keeping it fresh for a modern audience. But the formula that made Macross great in the past hasn’t always adapted well to modern storytelling expectations, which now often demand more depth, complexity, or innovation in character arcs and world-building. Macross was originally a war drama but of late the creators seem to have forgotten that and are more keen on making their terrible symphogear clones.
Laplace's Box didn't change anything in Hathaway's Flash because HF was written in 1989-1990 and Laplace's Box wasn't even a thing until Unicorn 30 years later. IMHO, UC Gundam just makes everything up as it goes.
The Tapestry is a represention of the duality of humanity and more subtly a representation of "The lion and the unicorn fighting for the crown." A euphemism of the war over the english crown before the Windsor family attained it.
Despite all the critics about Macross II, I still kinda love it. And I hope this will be the material for the next Macross. Also I like VF-2ss because of the pack and the drones launched from the VF as a first concept for Ghost of Frontier both for Nightmare and Messiah, Lil Draken for Draken, and Guide Units for Vivasvat
