Greg A. - 29 - #Triathlon Keep having fun while you Swim, Bike and Run! My weight loss journey that revived an old passion turned journey to cross an IRONMAN finish line before my 30th birthday!
Really brave trusting the airlines with your bike. They've destroyed car seats and strollers of ours and I wouldn't dare hand my bike to those animals to toss in a pile under the plane.
Im planning to purchase an AEROAD CFR Road bike in Canada website, dispatch to my uncle's home in Canada. and then He will shipped with UPS or FEDEX to Florida.USA. US inventory on the website is really poor, so that is the only option I see to get the bike, Any concern that I should be aware? Would I be charged with Custom Duties, what is the %? insights are welcome, thanks
Great bike, used the case on a flight my Canyon handle bars ended up sideways 30 degrees. I loosened the front stem bolts and realigned, but anything I should be worried about?
Something similar happened to me on one flight before. Just ensure nothing is cracked otherwise you should be all good. Anytime the bike comes out from the baggage carousel I open it immediately on the spot to inspect to ensure nothing is damaged and if there were any issues I could address it on the spot at the airport with the airline
Thank you for making this! Couldn't find any of this info on the Canyon website, and I panicked a little after I thought I assembled and still had some odd looking spare parts.
Hi, I was wondering if there was any issue in UPS shipping the bike because of the Di2 battery. I ordered an Endurace with Di2 and UPS tracking says that they won’t ship because it is declared as hazardous materials. In the mean time, I received a text that the bike cleared customs (I had paid all of the customs fees by phone). CANYON told me they have shipped similarly equipped bikes to Canada and that I just have to wait. UPS has sent me three notifications that they won’t ship by air but also said the shipment is ‘on the way’, and has cleared customs. All of this is very confusing for me.
sicon soft...ive read/heard a 100 bad stories. would love to love it (handlebars attached...great...and my top priority with an aero/one piece cockpit) but no way after the stories ive heard. i am involved in the shipping industry...
Hi is it OK for a non Triathlete to purchase a bike like this if they just want to ride faster? And what is your on this bike's comfort and power generation for longer rides?
Im really looking forward to transitioning from my cannondale aero slice to this bike!! You're videos have really helped me. Congrats on the Ironman journey!! Welcome to the club
Great video. I have an issue with the bottle holder. I have the SLX but only one screw hole available for the bottle holder adaptor. Canyon support sent me a link to your video for support!!! Do you have a close up shot of the attached bottle holder?
How well do these bags protect against compression? ie it being squished by other bags cases etc. I used to travel with a hard/eva type case with my mountain bike. I literally watched baggage handlers lobbing the bag onto the conveyer belt at LAX from the plane window one time. The stand within the bag looks amazing! Like you say it's used by all those other big names so must be good enough. Thanks for the videos they are really good.
I've got a Ruster Sports Hen House which is, dare I say, less protected than this, haha! But not really. Instead of bubble wrap I use pipe foam. My bag requires that I take the cockpit, fork, seat, and wheels off. Additionally I have to loosen the crankset and then align the crankarms with each other while also taking off the chainrings. Lots of straps hold everything together so nothing rattles during transport. The first time or two I flew with it I was nervous that my frame would be ruined during transit or from some jackass baggage handler as I fell into the trap of hating on soft cases (my previous was a Thule clamshell hard case) because they don't seem to have any support. What I learned with my Ruster is that the case will actually dissipate a lot of the forces onto itself as they have pretty good tensile strength by themselves. The bike inside actually works as more of a skeleton to give more support to the bag. The pipe foam helps keep the parts from rubbing on each other while also absorbing some of the impacts that the bag itself doesn't take care of. All in all, I wouldn't be nervous about traveling with this type of bag. My only beef is the costs as I don't have to pay any extra costs with mine 🙂
How have you like the bag so far? I'm looking to get this same bag for my TT bike for an Ironman event in a few months. I'm also considering the BikeBox Alan. Thoughts in terms of protection and easy of use when traveling.
Congrats on the bike one year later! 😅 I want to get my first tri bike and that the model I want so I am looking for some reviews. How do you love your canyon 1 year later? I follow you on insta I love to see others journey from n triathlon.
Hi Greg just a quick question. It is about the travel bag, is it considered a luggage or considered a sport luggage and will pay a fee since it is considered an oversize bag since airline only allows 62 inches dimensional? Thanks
@@gregstrijourney so that means i have to pay $200 or more going to London. Because next year 2023 i will be joining RideLondon Essex Century ride. How about you Greg have you been paying at the airline if you were travelling international? Thanks for the response
Hi Greg! I was looking to buy a Canyon Ultimate, but was extremely disappointed and lost hope when I saw the estimated 13% import/duty fee. I am in Quebec, so taxes are around 15%, so an additional 28% on a $6500 bike isn’t good for me. In the $1077 you paid, how much was taxes and how much was fee? I don’t mind paying taxes, but mind paying astronomical fees… Thank you, great content🙂
YES YES YES on taking off the derailluer and hanger. I bent a hanger one time on byway ti try, trying to get another one in one day was the most stressful thing. Also you remove the derailleur you show it still on your bike.
Love your videos great information 👍 I'm looking to buy same bike I'm 6 foot 1 and would be maxed out on a medium so leaning towards a large I'm very flexible what do you think 🤷♂️😁
Hi Greg. Thanks for the multiple videos, just received my speedmax CF 8 and have been very helpful. Can you teach me how to mount my bike con my kickr? Seen the frame has a tap con the other side where the thru axle enters and I’m little bit confused
Congrats, Greg, and thanks for sharing!! Awesome bike. Question for you (as a fellow Canadian triathlete), when I look on the Canyon site and go to check out my cart, it says for the CF 8 Disc Di2 that the total is 7977$, plus estimated taxes of 1349$, and also estimated duty of 1037$. Do these numbers make sense? Seems like I would be paying taxes twice at this price :o Thanks again and enjoy your tri season!!
I agree. But I wonder if the wheels will fit in those side bags if they are not entirely deflated?... do you have any experience with this bag and tubeless tyres?
