I am playing on Buffet Crampon. My experience with Buffet is so so. When I was invited to play in Low Clarinet Festvial And I needed really sponsors so I wrote to Buffet Crampon USA they were so helpful and they responded to me in 5 minutes that of course they will help m that's so nice of them and I am so thankful. But the problem is Buffet Crampon in Paris. I wrote many e mails to on men , he read every e mail it and he has never responded me from 2022. That's so rude.. that even he couldn't say "no" but important for me it was someone respect me and respons me. And I think that Selmer in Paris is much better with supports young artists than Buffet in Europe
Do artists get points or credit for referring students or other players to their brand? I've been surprised at the teachers we've encountered recently who've made spiels (during lessons or clinics) to my son about how he should have bought their endorser's brand instead of his Backun. It's discouraging to be paying someone for lessons, and then hear they are using that time to try to sell a product.
Good question! No, there is no “incentive program” for artists to drive more business to the brand which endorses them. At our shop, we remain completely agnostic. Choosing the right instrument is a really personal thing, and I think it’s actually a really bad idea to steer someone to a specific instrument that they don’t feel comfortable playing.
Same goes for ensembles! I'm the Executive Director of the Plattsburgh Clarinet Choir, and all it took for high-level endorsements and sponsors was to ASK. These people that you look up to are real people! My unsolicited advice: make sure you have plenty of documentation of the things you've accomplished over the years - recordings, write-ups, reviews, etc. and interact with these companies with respect. Good luck, everyone!!!
I know that you probably can't say an specific number because of maybe contract policies, but it would be nice to know a range of how much money do they give you , again, i know that probably every deal with every artist must be different, but any example would help to have a slightly better grasp of what implies being an endorsed artist. When you say they back you up for concerts, does that mean they pay your plane tickets? hotel? just lunch? The reeds supplied are enough that you don't have to buy any?
totally depends on the brand, the event, and the player's relationship with that brand. typically if it's an event they'll sponsor you for, you can expect a couple hundred or so. if it's a higher profile performance and you're a higher profile player, then they may cover more things like flights and hotels. the reed brands usually give you a yearly allowance, and after you use that up you can buy them at artist discount prices
I'm a little confused....at 10:07 he says the plastic construction make the sound too bright... didn't he say he and his wife couldn't tell in a blind test which instrument was which in a comparison with his $7000 clarinet?
Dear Michael - I couldn't agree more - we all sound like ourselves even I find on a vintage 1920's metal Clinton System clarinet. My clarinets the Craven Sonoro SM and SM2 at the same price bracket (or cheaper) are, I think easily as good as Morrie's and sound less thin in the clarion register and I believe that hard rubber has a warmer resonance. I also sell a wooden version but the hard rubber can be enhanced by different style wooden barrels and bells similar to the Backun offerings . Of course here in UK we generally prefer a very slightly more spread and less focussed sound. A great video though Michael, thank you, well done. Maybe you would be so kind as to review one of my offerings in future?
I hope you are all enjoying Michael's videos as much as I am. I'm a full time musician, but it's been years since I had any serious technique on my winds - these days, I am a piano/vocal guy and I have a small music shop in NY State, so I play a bit of everything. Getting back in touch with my clarinet/bass clarinet chops has been SO much easier with Michael's help - from product vids, to performance tips - it's like having a private tutor again. I have to offer up some serious praise too - I sent an email to his website, and received a personal phone response in less than an hour! WOAH! It felt like I was talking to a friend that I hadn't seen in a few years - this guy is genuine, and if you need a clarinet recourse in your life - look no further. Hats off to you, Michael - your energy, your talent, and willingness to share makes you one of my very favorite people - regardless of the music. (Which I LOVE)
